Lyrics below:
The case was pulled from under the bed
She made a call to a sympathetic friend and made arrangements
The door was closed, there was a note
I couldn't be bothered, maybe I'll choke, no more engagements
With where-have-you-beens and far away frowns
Trying to be good by not being 'round
And here in the bar, the piano man's found
Another nail for my heart
And here in the bar, the piano man's found
Another nail for my heart
That stupid old bug that kills only love
I want to be good, is that not enough
So play me the song that makes it so tough
Another nail for my heart
Then play me the song that makes it so tough
Another nail for my heart
I had excuses, those little boy lies
That she computed by watching my eyes and told me firmly
She couldn't stand it, I'm bad on her heart
She dropped her make-up and I found the bar, now it concerns me
I've had a bad time, now love is resigned
I've been such a fool, I've loved and goodbyed
So here in the bar, the piano man's found
Another nail for my heart
And here in the bar, the piano man's found
Another nail for my heart
And here in the bar, the piano man's found
Another nail for my heart
And here in the bar, the piano man's found
Another nail for my heart
And here in the bar, the piano man's found
Another nail for my heart

Again, as I said earlier, Gilson Lavis is a killer drummer. I've been a drummer for 26 years, and I've always regarded Mr. Lavis as a very underrated drummer. More so, Squeeze were and still are a underrated band. But his overall approach to drumming is great. Awesome pocket. Brilliant fills. Always tasteful. All extremely vital and complimentary to the songs. Also, in general, its fun to watch him play. So much energy. Yes sir. There's a reason why he played with Jerry Lee Lewis, Dolly Parton & Chuck Berry. Incredible man. Sorry to get all fan boy. But the man deserves more cred. No one can argue that. Cheers.

There’s so much going on in this song, but the thing that always floors me is how unusual it is to have a guitar break after just the first verse and chorus. Everything about this song is perfect: the melody, the chorus, the lyrics, the guitar solo, the arrangement. I like the video as well.
So many brilliant tunes (and bands) came out of the post punk and new wave scene. But this song scratches that nostalgic itch like no other. Tilbrook's voice, the swirling guitar and bass lines, and that perfect driving beat. Oh...but then lets top it off with a masterclass guitar solo. What the hell was that!!??
I can assure you that I am a very straight man, but..1980 Glenn Tillbrook was dreamy.

I hung out with these cats at a hotel bar in Burlington Vermont in the 90's right after their concert at U.V.M! I saw Squeeze, in NYC, in the early 80's as well! I must say probably one of the best live rock experiences of my life! Great folks to drink with as well! I always admired their style, sound and songwriting but their onstage antics, with Jules as MC, was a show in itself. I remember one of the guys doing several somersaults guitar in hand and never missing a beat. They were all very young then and so was I. In the words of Bob Hope "Thanks for the memories"! You guys were and still are an inspiration to me and many many others!

I am 46 now and was 11 years old when "Hourglass" was played a LOT on MTV in 1987 and that was the first time I THOUGHT I'd ever heard a Squeeze song. I ended up buying their Greatest Hits album many years later and discovered several I knew but didn't know it was them including "Another Nail in my Heart", "Pulling Mussels" and of course "Tempted" where Glenn gets screwed only singing 3 lines of the already shortened 2nd verse. But it amazes me how anyone could only know 1 measley Squeeze song.
Possibly thee most underrated band of the 1980's Squeeze were awesome during the 80's and I can't ever remember them making a bad record. And this was another classic.

BY MILES, THEY WROTE AND SANG GREAT STUFF.
I grew up on this song. My mom always played their "Singles- 50s and Under" tape in her car. Recently burned her a cd and have been listening to this lately! Love Squeeze!
Grab the silver hammer and get to clinking. This band and their music is beyond genuis.
Been listening to this great song for 40 years now. Still don't know half the words.
I was 21 when Squeeze released this song. Still really like to this day! Awesome vocals, lyrics, arrangement and instrumental performance. It’s so damn hooky! 👍🇨🇦
its so cool that years after this song came out, peeps are still commenting on it positively. Always a fun group.
Difford and Tilbrook wrote some of the most perfect pop songs of the late '70's and early '80's. Brilliant.

A BRILLIANT COMBINATION.
My parents saw Glenn like a decade ago at a small club, and they said every time he’d end a song he’d go, “cheers, loves!” So now we say “cheers, loves!” all the time
I had heard of the Squeeze and had heard a few songs but didnt realize how truly amazing this band is. Tilbrook and Diffort are a creative force. What a wonderful treat to discover these guys and their fabulous song book.

Complete nonsense. What was their rating then? They were highly respected amongst their peers. This ‘underrated’ comment is attributed to almost all music videos, it’s lazy. You don’t know your music.
One of the best pop songs ever written 🤩 Squeeze forever

I saw them five times. Two nights in a row on the Babylon and on tour, Thanksgiving 1988 in Indiana, the next night in Chicago. Then on the Frank tour, Play and Some Fantastic Place tours, all in Chicago. The SFP tour included Paul Carrack. Paul and Glen are at the top of my list of favorite singers and they are still out there killing it. I just watched a live concert of Paul Carrack’s from 2007 in Germany, it was phenomenal!

@ 2:38 Gilson's like yeah guys, you adlib, I'm thirsty 😂😂😂
One of my all time favorite guitar solos. Short, simple and melodic.
Hugely Underrated, alongside 10CC and Bebop Deluxe.
I saw them recently at the salt shed in Chicago and they were absolutely fantastic. Thrilling lovely and beautiful.
This song in particular brings me right back to my freshman year in college. A friend of mine, who had a single room, set his stereo up. You would hear it in the afternoon and in the evenings. it just brings back. Great memories, perhaps some of the best.

I remember watch this video on a late night video program before MTV debuted(NightFlight?).There we’re only about 5 videos in rotation! This was one of them.
Fancy stick work from the drummer. Watch his right hand real close @ 1:19 when he transitions off the snare.

SIMPLY SUPERB.
A very under-rated band imo. Their tunes are VERY well structured/written. The Vocalist has awesome technical abilities(for a pop/rock band), especially regarding fine control over wide intervals. & there are always Great solos / superb instrumentation & fine production etc.

Seriously. I had only heard Tempted by them and decided to listen to more stuff. My biggest surprise is that every song I hear by them is on par or better than the previous one. As a very picky vocalist myself and a huge fan of Brian Wilson, this vocalist is one of the best I’ve ever heard; whether it be in regard to writing vocal melodies or overall technical skill. A+
-8 dislikes ????????????-errrrrrrrr do you know what your listening to???,this is music!
To all you kids today, you really did miss a great time in the 80s. Trust me when I say that there will never be another time like that. All the great bands, the great songs, all the feeling and everything that comes with it.

Richard betser That's what a lot old people say unfortunately. And will continue to do so when both you and I are long dead. Yes, this a great, timeless song by squeeze but don't try and spoil it with the grandpa stuck in the past crap. It's as boring as it is overdone.

@cquilty- right on! It cracks me up how people are so close-minded about other generations. Might as well sing the theme to "All in the Family"!

Amaaaaaazing, great memories of when your only worry was who was number 1 and on top of the pops on a Thursday night xxx
Tilbrook's solo is absolutely incredible. Such an underrated guitarist. I guess that's what happens when people (rightly) praise you for your songwriting skills - your other talents are overlooked. See also a certain P. McCartney who people rarely notice is one of the great bassists!
