    If someone tried to take over your car, there’d be immediate eviction, arrest and jail time. But if your home is taken over, you, the victim, must continue paying mortgage, taxes and insurance or lose the entire property as well as any equity, while at the same time being forced to pay for your own shelter and an attorney to get the thieves evicted. WHY? Grand theft auto should be a far less serious crime than grand theft house.

    I'm guessing here, but it's considered a "civil matter" which means that they would need to go to court, not the police, so they can't be trespassed since the cops don't know who owns the property or if there was an arrangement between the squatter and owner. This seems to be a bigger thing in the UK, I searched this hoping for how it works there.

    @Steven Keck haha I love that! ‘distract’ from the real problems, that’s great. Regardless of which side people are on, it tends to be very self-victimizing. People often complain more about what the world throws at them, rather than prioritize their time and work on what’s important.

  • @john2willis70

    @john2willis70

    @Steven Keck young liberals have the idea that someone owns too much or too rich to notice. Like one video of a young woman at Walmart stealing. "Walmart makes billions so they won't miss a $1000 TV. Besides they have insurance that covers theft." Shouldn't matter if someone has too much of anything. It's theirs. They worked for it and bought it. No one has the moral right to steal what you own. Land owner may have property that he grazes cattle on every other year. Doesn't mean he doesn't use the property so it's yours now. Would you allow someone to steal your car even if it's just sitting in your driveway and hasn't been driven for a year? The Obama's own 5 Mansions all over the U.S. I'm sure some sit empty for a time. Should someone steal one of their mansions this way? I hate this sense of entitlement that seems to permeate the minds of these young people. You have 5 candy bars so you should give me 3 of them. It's ridiculous. Go out, get a job and buy your own house. Landowners and home owners still have to pay taxes on the property. Still have to dish out money to upkeep the property. Sounds like your on the squatters side. It's a liberal socialist idea that you have to give me something because you have too much already. Jeez.

    @akqj9 No one has a right to take possession, even temporarily, of another’s property without the owner’s permission. Your dribble is simply double speak of the modern bleeding heart society that we are living in. Why should it take more than a day to remove an unauthorized occupant from any property? Just try to get rid of a squatter or any other unauthorized occupant in California, Illinois or any other blue state. Hell it’s even hard to do in a state like Texas. The actual owner has the deck stacked against him or her, with a lengthy and costly legal battle that most homeowners or landlords cannot afford. Additionally, they are stuck with thousands of dollars in damage that they never get reimbursed for. Squatters, or whatever you want to call these cockroaches should be dealt with swiftly and harshly by the legal system. If not, then swiftly and harshly by the property owner WITHOUT any fear of retribution from our supposed legal system.

    If you have squatters in your house, this is what you do. Lease it to a friend (back date the lease if you'd like) and have him go into the house and change the locks when the squatter leaves. When the Squatter comes back and calls the police your friend simply tells them that he's renting the place and shows the police the lease. The squatter will say the same thing. Police will tell both that it's a civil matter and to take it to court. The police will leave without making an arrest because they can't confirm who actually leased the house. You win.

    Entering the property while someone is living in it -- whether legally or not -- could get landlords into quite a legal mess in some states -- even when they own the property. We'd recommend that anyone reading or watching reaches out to an attorney for clarification on their state and head to the link in our YT description for state specifics on what to do in certain instances.

    Its called breaking and entering. I'm a good example of why those rights exist. I've been denied housing due to my identity but other than being able to bring hearsay and no solid proof means it gets dismissed. So I've mostly lived with friends and off the lease or subleased. My last landlords knew me and I helped them toss the couches that other tenants left by the trash. They fully understood that I was here and even though I asked to be on the lease it never happened. I'm in the same place new landlords they refused to help me. The police said that they couldn't withhold my key they are. They told me to get a locksmith. My roommate verified I live there and they. BTW the minimum to qualify for rent where I'm at is $5000.

    Adverse possession should be removed from law, it makes no sense at all in modern times, it might've made sense for some roman bureaucrat 2000 years ago but today they are a violation of private property rights, because today we can communicate in seconds, and we live in capitalism allowing a person to own multiple homes and have businesses, the romans were socialists in an agrarian economy today they would be one of the poorest countries in the world, their legal system is not up to par with a modern post industrialized society. today we can have a public internet registry that allows people to know who is the rightful owner and who is the rightful tenant and that should be followed, not these silly inferior 2000 year old procedures.

    The "horrible people" are those that would steal someone's home and cost them thousands of dollars or the loss of their property through their selfish, self serving, brash, and irresponsible actions which generally also destroy the home they're trying to steal. Maybe people would feel less hateful about squatters if they actually took care of the property instead of wrecking it. Squatters ALWAYS wreck because they don't give a crap about free stuff because they didn't work for it. They don't care that someone else did. We're not talking about corporations, were talking about regular people that might own a second home that they rent out, or even their own home taken over by gutter scum when they took a vacation.
