Sputnik Sea Urchin Shell Christmas Ornament

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Usually Christmas does not bring deep sea creatures to mind. However, we are talking about Tim's mind so a Sputnik Sea Urchin shell is the perfect thing to turn into a Christmas ornament. Instead of gluing the turned wood pieces to the fragile shell, Tim developed a method using a dowel rod to connect the pieces without stressing the Urchin. Good thing because there is nothing more disturbing than a stressed Urchin during the holiday season...

Hello. My name is Lila and I am 8 years old. My Dad and I have been watching your videos at bedtime for years. I'm an artist too, but I like mostly to draw. We always love your videos. We were very surprised to find out that you live in Oklahoma too. We are in Oklahoma City. Thank you for your videos.

Please don't get me wrong or offended, Your are still as ( CORNEY) (FUNNY) ( HELARIUOS) as you were when I watched your ( Turning With Tim ) on the PBS channel. I enjoyed your cut ups and crazy antics, this was one of my favorite shows right after Woodsmith Shop. I was very fortunate at the International Wood Turners Symposium at Louisville Ky to meet you and got a chance to talk with you. Let me say you haven't changed a bit, you are the same stumbling, bumbling, rumbling and babbling, Tim the Turner i watched. Please DO NOT EVER CHANGE. Our conversation was very professional and I learned a lot from you. KEEP ON TURNING The Aaah-Mazn Creations

Beautiful idea. As a carpenter myself, I’ve always been amazed that no matter how well we might do our work, we only bring out the beauty of nature in wood....we can’t make it!

Perfect timing. I've been practicing finials for the last week and thought there had to be a better way to connect tops & bottoms. A turning club member told me about the dowel idea, but did not explain how to do it. Thanks for showing.

Just saw a new way to sand the sea urchin. Make a cone and attach sandpaper to the cone. The point automatically centers the opening in the shell.

Love Tim's videos. I've had fun making a few of the projects I've seen in them. One point not mentioned in the video: when working with shell (particularly sanding) you really should be careful of the dust. Not good to breathe that stuff in.

Very unique Christmas ornament. Looks like those sea urchin shells are opaque. Would be interesting if a small light could somehow be placed inside...

hey Tim, do you know of anyone who makes custom turned walking sticks? i want to get a lathe some day, but i woudl love to be able to spindle turn as long as 60+ inches... woudl i simply have to get multiple extensions? and maybe some steady rests perhaps? any lathe brands you can recommend a super-beginner?
