Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In part 2, I turn a cap and finial to fit onto a Sputnik Sea Urchin Shell to create a hanging ornament with turned finials. In part 1, I prepared the shell to accept the finials.

And with the truest of statements, only made by wood turners, captured by Cindy, "It's by sharing with others that we all improve."
I used to scuba dive years ago and see these animals in their own environment, but now being much older I have just bought some shells to make some of these beautiful ornaments. Thank you for sharing your talents with us all.
A real pleasure to watch your skilled hands create something of great beauty!

Hi Cindy, as usual you very impress me. All your videos are very instructive, so is this one. You are not stingy of details and being a french speaking I do appreciate the time you spent explaining things slowly
Thank very much for for sharing. . You are the best..
Great video Cindy, the instructions are very precise and makes it easy to follow.

Carl, A light touch is indeed part of the "secret". Keep on turning! Cindy
I like watching you. I wish you lived near me Thanks Dennis
Very nice finish its 50 yrs since I collect sea urchins by the bucket full south of Aberdeen Scotland
Great work Cindy! You have outstanding tool control and touch ! I too have made these ornaments and attach the cap and finial together with a 1/8 " dowel, that allows the shell to "float", I have filled the shell with expanding foam to help stabilize and balance the shell. I totally agree with your comment about sharing our work with fellow turners, I get inspiration from seeing other work and it's a great way for others to gain ideas.
Hello Cindy, This video is among the best I have seen on KZread. You really are a great turner. This has taught me a lot about turning a finial and the initiative to get on and try to make one. Keep the videos coming. Best wishes, Alan.
Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge Cindy. Now I just need to put them into practice. Beautiful job. Greetings. Vitorio
awesome videos, thanks Cindy. I notice your top is in the Australian colours and has a map of Australia on it, very cool
John, I'm glad you are still turning Finials! The toolrest that I'm using in the video is not a stock Stubby rest. It is a Robust Comfort Rest. I like the 4" for turning Finials.
thank you for this video. I have taken your idea and made a few of my own. I have made some with wood and some with acrylic if I knew how to post pictures I would . also love the signature gouge it is a great tool .
Just excellent. Fun to watch. I hope you make it to the First State Turners. Thank you. Jim.
Great video Cindy, Thank you for shearing, I'm still practicing with the spindle gouge from watching you I know need to work on a lighter touch. Take care, Carl
Quanta delicadeza !!!!!!!!! Simplesmente fenomenal !!!!!! Mulher de talento . Ver isto de perto seria um privilégio único !!!!!!🥰🥰🥰🤔🤔🤔👏👏👏😳😳🤩🤩🙏
I picked up some mini sputniks.. When they say mini, they sure mean it! think it's going to be challenging for me on such a small scale. The shells do look quite nice though.
Bravos
Cindy, When I took the Finial Box class in Columbia at the end of 2012, the toolrest position in relation to the end of the finial didn't really click until I saw this video. One question though, is the toolrest in the video a stock Stubby toolrest or a different one? And this is a great video to remind me of the lessons I learned over those 2 days. I've made a bunch of toothpicks in the last 8 months. Thanks again. John Hentschel
hi i am just starting out using a lathe what speed is used for finishing ?
cindy did you just put 5 minute epoxy on the grooves you cut or a little on the top where the angle meets the urchin

I tried not to get any epoxy to squeeze out and become visible outside of the joint. So, I don't put much if any epoxy on the chamfers. Just enough epoxy to hold the finials into the shell.

I wonder about the proximity of your left hand to the chuck. It looks close to me. Are you conscious of being careful of it or is your hand positioned in such a way as to make it very unlikely to hit the chuck? Thanks for sharing a cool video. Do you teach classes?
hope i didnt offend you anyway it looks great
