I'd love to use these techniques to make some imperial fortifications. I like to imagine that Imperial Guardsmen, along with their trenches, create all sorts of forts out of wood, prefabs, and perhaps even scrap, but they'd probably work harder on machining it so they don't cut themselves just looking at it, like Orky stuff would. I honestly think that, with some extra Imperial bits, you could make some convincing Imperial Guard fortifications.

There is nothing shameful about a pile of empty sprues. Its a badge of accomplishment.

When I was a kid my brother and I made loads of space marine fortresses out of polystyrene, the sort that comes as packing for fridges and watching machines are the best! Would love to see you do something with that!

i once used frames, an old hobby knife's blade and some cardboard to make a tiny guillotine. 10/10 would recommend using old frames in project

Cool. I actually really like the shapes in the “useless” sprues.

Sprues dissolved in styrene glue make such a great texturing putty and filler I never have enough of them. Though I never thought to build terrain accessories with these. Good job !

Ladders are easy to make and fun, can also be used as walkways. You can also make ropes and even rope ladders with String or cotton. It moves model making away from just snapping together a kit!

What I used to do with leftover bases and sprues is: 1. Cut up a really tiny bit of sprue, one with one of those round, nobbly bits on it. 2. Glue it to a 25mm base. 3. You now have the basic look of a landmine. Paint it dark green with brown blotches for corosion/weathering, and then you can use them on a bit of table or glue them in between sandy bits if you have hilly areas - undercover landmines!

Note for anybody with Tooth and Claw: the Incursor/Infiltrator sprues have a nice central dividing line. As busy as they are, you can use them (and other sprues like them) for this by cutting them in half. You need two for every building, sure, but you get four in the box, and similarly-sized and divided sprues are really common in modern kits.

Save everything, Paint and spurs. Ive herd a lot of bad things about their paint jars. So if I get any , first thing I do is switch it to squeeze jar. Great ork terrain.

I've also found that the snipped bits can be melted down in plastic glue to make some useful plastic gap filler. Love using sprues for terrain and extra stuff.... I have trouble throwing anything away lol.

All this needs is some corner pieces, bonus points for magnets to keep them together in play

A good variant of one of these is to stick wall sections on two perpendicular sides of the frame, to create a "corner" piece.

Everytime i hear that music 11:31 it reminds me of my AMIGA days of when i played games.

Speaking of random triangles, my pile in the corner also contains the remains of those irritating plastic clamshells. Any flat piece more than a centimetre across could contribute to a smashed window, and they're often a lot more robust than transparent trash that's all flat by design.

Dammit, i just threw out my pile of sprues, lol. They look absolutely fantastic! I'm totally gonna have a crack at this. Thanks for sharing...

Cut three 1 - 1.5" straight lengths of sprue, glue two in a flat cross shape, then glue the third perpendicular to the other two to make very simple, very quick tank traps. Can be used to prevent vehicle movement but you can space the traps so 25mm infantry can still pass through. Spray black, dry brush with metallic bronze and add rust as required!

Awesome Guy! Looks just as good as any Ork terrain I've seen in White Dwarf or channel battle reports. And I love the purple Stompa! I used to get the dreaded 'black fingernail' - it scrubs off if you use soap and the abrasive side of a washing up sponge - although now I just wear a pair of old latex gloves when I'm priming (they live in the crate with all my spray paints). All the best, stay safe.

Just discovered a cool use for square cross-section sprues. Pick up a cheap mini butane blow-torch from the hardware store ($10-15). Blast a section of sprue for < 1 second and it softens enough to twist. Twist and let cool (15 s or so). Keep doing this along a length of sprue and you turn a very rectilinear industrial-looking rod into a very organic vine-like helical element. Take several of these and heat the ends and mash them together with pliers. Then progressively heat sections and keep twisting them around themselves to make a gnarled tree-trunk. Splay the ends out to form roots. Now take one of those 'useless' curvy sprues you mention in your video. Snip off the rectangular frame around the outside and you're left with something that looks like branching tree-limbs. Use the same heat + twist method on those tree-limbs to make them look organic while bending them haphazardly to make the crown of a tree. Heat the end of the trunk you made earlier to melting (may flame a little), and do the same for the tree limbs, and then jam them together. Voila - a crazy looking (somewhat stylized) skeletal tree! I'm experimenting with easy ways to texture the sprue to give a more bark-like organic texture. PVA + fine sand kinda works. Hoping that PVA + sieved sawdust might look more convincing.

Sprues with long straight bits are also good at making movement trays.

The little nibbly nobolly bits left over from the sprues can be used as little rocks

I like the black nails, it's a good look

With the densely packed Chaotic twisted sprues, I turned my first set into a tree. The more Chaotic the pattern the more natural the tree limbs look

Nice use of old sprues there! I nevr thought of using them like that. The most creative use I ever made of old sprues was to create the edges of movement trays for Warhammer fantasy, with thin cardstock as the base (often taken from the GW boxes themselves, so they had appropriate artwork for the units deployed on them)

That's a fantastic bit of work. The thinned gold paint is such a cool idea.

Oh and I use to snip this plastiksprues in small Parts to use it as Basing-Rubble, because my bases are more or less desighned for City-Fights. ^^

Hello Guy and penny. I am a recent sub. Saw you on Black magic craft. You probably already know but all those little bits of sprue that are good only for rubble or the bin can be mixed with plastic glue until they melt then use this mix as a filler on plastic models. It welds the plastic, fills gaps and is easily filed. All the best.

Thats really cool. I've used srpues to make tank-traps, poles for barbed wire and other obstacles. Wouldn't have thought to make whole buildings.

You can also use sprue bits cut down to very small pieces and mix it with plastic glue to create a plastic slurry. You can then use said plastic glue slurry to be a gap filler. Note it may take a few applications depending on how large the gap you're filling is. But I'm guessing that most people already know this trick. But if you didn't... well now you know!

Hey just wanted to give you a big thanks for your content, both from before and during this lockdown. You have actually inspired me to get into the loft and drag out some old minis and dried up paint. Managed to revive some paint with hot water and yesterday finished my first Ork Boy in well over 10 years, didn't even go horribly. Anyway, keep doing what you're doing, really appreciate it!

You should do more scratch terrain. You got lots of kits left over and you could make some cool ruins, wrecks and encampments.

Use the full sprues as a building exoskeleton, then add cardboard to the outside of the exoskeleton.

These sprue frames make good iron scraps for junkyards. Also I had an idea for a cyberpunk pre fab slums like Kowloon city seeing how modular they are!

Those box frame sprues are going the way of the dodo. Its all busy framed CAD shenanigans now.

Awesome to see how easy terrain can be! My guess is that having your dog help out really pulls this all together!

Your "useless busy sprues" would make a great thorny tree or or bush terrain base. This is a great project and video regardless.

Considering how much we pay for each model, all those sprues are truly precious. Nothing will go waste! and indeed, excellent result and great idea.

Look great and very ork to me; i'd used a drill and steel wire from side to side on the corners and two tears of Loctite, one on each side, to make the frames. But i'd used the frames to make "claw like" rocky formations with flat tops and one or two flat places at the sides, with the wonderful news paper wet on a 50/50 water and white glue mixture. Your method for the frames look much better and much less time consuming.

You missed some tricks. Ice-cream tubs is a good source of plastic that you can hack at the edges to get a beaten and blasted metal look. Cotton bud pipes are self-explanatory, but empty bottles of kitchen or bathroom spray and hand sanitiser often have tubes inside. those tubes + the cotton bub sticks make instant hydraulics. Cable tie sections can be added as vents. Random small wires as cables look great and the underside of disposable plastic picnic plates have a non-slip texture, this makes a perfect tread plate, the sort you would want to walk on. The last thing I can think of for this build is some cloth textures, camo netting or tarps can be made with paper and PVA for a wee detail.

If you use wooden sticks, I would recommend sticking them on after priming. that way you don´t have to paint them at all. just slap a wash on there and call it a day.

Literally just yesterday I was looking for exactly this content!! Just got into kill team with orks and have tons of sprue and they are the perfect kultur for kitbashes so my dude from the bottom of my heart thank you for giving me exactly what I wanted in less than 24hrs of wanting it lol!! I've used sprues to make three different war engines in a kinda ramshackle, dilapidated style to use for an undead Kings of War army. So far, they're only primed, but I've recently gotten back into the hobby, so once I'm done painting up the units for my elf army, I fully intend on getting back to putting together the stuff for an undead army.

Tip on making pannles look more orky is to cut the corners off not having perfect right angles always makes them look better for orks

As an American, something that helped put Metric into a bit of context is that a 1 inch base is exactly the same size as a 25 Millimeter base.

These are honestly much nicer and more effective than I thought they would be. I'll be making some of these with my toddler. They seem to be crying out to be turned into faces (maybe giving the top of each wall section mad orky eyes ..as representations of Gork or Mork?). Admittedly it might be hard to make that work well.. I'm coming away with ideas: great video!

That's great timing. I just started yesterday with an Ork tower that will be made out of plastic cards, spruces, leftover bits and maybe some other stuff that may catch my eye. The "fence" at the top so far are all wing and other bits from the Dakkajet kit. I also have some container like things that my meds are usually in as well as some blisters that I plan to use for other stuff. Frist time trying myself at this and there some great ideas in your video. So, big thanks and thumps up

i use the straight parts from the sprue as wodden 2x4s on bases. just scuff it up with a razor and it looks like cut wood

I like the use of the old frames! I use those to make stands for my Gundam models.

Hey, if your still useing those snips, if you wrap the handle with a bunch of rubber bands it can help with the discomfort/looseness problem

im getting into orks and i returned to this video and now i finally have a good excuse for hoarding cereal boxes

Things like this is what I spent the first week of lockdown doing since I can't play at my local shop now and my partner has a passing interest in playing. I've made ruined log effect houses, palisade walls and scatter barricades. I'm definitely going to make some of these once I refill my sprue pile though
