Crazy how German commandos carried these in WW2. Goes to show Browning was a genius, that even America's enemies valued the gun.

Yep. He certainly was. The magazine was like that, remaining in the pistol, because as my Gunny told me, if you lost your magazine on the jungle floor at night, you would be wearing a toe tag. All this ejecting magazines, is kind of stupid in real life. It was also carried by over 70 nations over the decades. Still probably the best 9mm ever made. The Sig 226p is more rugged and can match its legendary reliability, and Glocks are right up there, but my 226 and my Glocks are substantially thicker then my Hi Power. The Hi Power is thin, elegant, reliable, and beautiful. Thanks for the video

@@pocketsand4404 weren't they based on the hipower? Also didn't the nazis roll through, Poland, take over the factory, and continue production? It's hard to keep all this strait lol Edit- I looked it up, similar story, similar gun lol. I always thought the radom was based on the high power, but seeing they both came about in 1935 leads me to think otherwise.

I bought a Browning HP back in the 90's, beautiful gun, hi polish bluing, walnut grips. I recently purchased a SA35 and am very happy with the quality. It's not as fancy as my older Browning, but very nice with a more practical finish for everyday carry. I will carry my SA35 six days a week and will carry my fancier Browning to Church on Sunday!😊

I've been carrying and shooting Hi-Powers for thirty years. I love the ergonomics and reliability. The downside has always been the miserable trigger, but that's a fairly easy fix and I'm pleased that SA addressed that and left out the damned mag safety that spoils the trigger on the original. What they are missing out on is creating an aluminum frame version for carry. FN made a few of these in the early 80s and I was lucky enough to find one. The steel frame is about 34/35 ounces, the aluminum frame is about 24 ounces bringing it down to about the same weight as a Glock 17/19. At that weight it becomes an excellent carry gun.

The easiest improvement for the trigger is to pop out the magazine safety linkage. Only requires removing a small pin in the trigger and the whole thing drops out. Also gives you free drop on the magazine.

The Browning Mk 3 has a horrendous trigger pull because it has both a magazine disconnect safety and a firing pin block safety that both impinge on the trigger. The firing pin safety also makes disassembly of the firing pin difficult. The spur hammer on the Mk 3 also causes hammer bite whereas the rounded hammer does not.

I have owned about eight or nine hiPowers. I currently own one. This has usually been my experience as well. For some reason however, the one I currently own which was assembled in Portugal has an amazing trigger pull despite being an MK3 with the magazine disconnect remaining in place. I can't quite explain it myself.

Excellent, accurate review as usual. I also own a Springfield Armory SA-35, purchased a few months ago and an old FN Hi Power MK3 (that actually has a Browning rollmark) plus an Argentine FM High-Power. Both of the older pistols have the epoxy finish that has scratched up badly but otherwise protects the metal. I like the older pistols but prefer the SA-35 for the same reasons you pointed out in the video. A collector might want a real FN but a shooter should get the SA-35.

Great review! Thanks, Dan. I have a Browning I purchased in 1974, which is one of my favorite handguns. After they discontinued them, I thought I would retire it to the gun safe and get one of the Tisas clones, which I did. And though the Tisas was a good gun and every bit a copy of the Browning, I just wasn't using it much and so I did what I very rarely do, and sold it. I still shoot the Browning occasionally, but not enough that I really needed to retire it. I rarely carry it anymore as I retired and now live in a very warm climate and the Browning (and my 1911s) are really too big and heavy to conceal with light clothing which I wear year 'round. On the rare day I need to wear a jacket or sweater, the Browning, or one of my 1911s, gets taken out for a walk. The Springfield looks like a great option for someone that wants the Browning High Power design. I think they have done a great job with fit and finish, and I love the grips! Even better than originals! Oh, and YES, it is a "biter". I have very large hands and the original Browning "rowel/ring" hammer is a wicked biter! I replaced mine with a spur hammer decades ago. The spur hammer of the MKII/MKIII was designed to eliminate that.

I tried to purchase the SA 35 a couple of times. Three samples have come through my local gun shop. All three of them had substantial scratches on them and one had the front dovetailed sight hammered in an angle with the right part of the dovetail sticking out of the slide. All three were returned to Springfield by the gun shop and I have not seen another one locally. There must’ve been a batch of SA 35s with bad quality control before they left the factory. The original sample you have looks beautiful! As always, thank you so much for the video.

I have been looking and haven't seen one in person since they were released back in.... October of 21? Since their release all I've heard about was problems with extraction and whatnot. Having finally held one today in November of 23 I can firmly say that I'm STILL in love with the pistol. Hopefully in the next year or two they can become prevalent enough in my area and reliable enough to actually warrant me purchasing one. I found the pistol to be quite slim and it fit my hand PERFECTLY. I own a CZ75 which I bought in place of the SA-35, but honestly, I think i still want the SA-35. Don't get me wrong, the CZ75 is fantastic but.....

I got one of the earlier serial numbers that had the extractor issues. A spring kit, new extractor and filing burrs out if the extractor channel solved all my issues. I assume the SA-35 has the modern firing pin safety… I am gonna pick one of these up.

I like what SPringfield has done with this model. SOme improvements but the classic design remains. I've got an original Browning Practical model that I love. Everyone i let shoot this gun wants to buy it. It's 100% reliable and shoots better than most people can hold it. I put a Cylinder & Slide trigger & hammer in it and the trigger is now 4lbs and super crisp. Springfield should offer some "enhanced models" with ported slides, optics ready slides, comped models, and maybe a shortened model with a 10-12 round short grip and a 3 1/2'' barrel. Both would sell faster than they could make them

Like the real high powers but they are kinda expensive for my cheap ass... I actually had one long ago but sold it... Some years later I found a Hungarian copy model P9M which I still have today... It was only 285.00 and I like it because it looks like it's been through hell and back but still shoots very accurate. 😁

Good-looking pistols! The SA-35 needs a lighter trigger! The original definitely needs a much lighter trigger. Over the years I've just become a trigger snob. Just don't have the same accuracy with a heavy trigger, not to mention near the speed. They both definitely need a rail for light. You can't shoot at what you can't see, unless it's just a range gun.

I actually own a very early Belgian Hi Power and it has traditional wood stocks/grips and a ring hammer as opposed to the later spur hammer. So it would appear that the SA35 more closely follows the original pattern than the later Browning hi powers...

I have to admit I have owned eight or nine high powers in my lifetime including the SA35 and I sold it only after a couple range sessions. It was definitely a better fit and finish then any other high-power I have ever owned. It was tighter tolerances and the forged parts were clearly sharper to specs and felt better in the hand snd when working. That is about where the good ends for me. The grips they say are wood but feel like cheap plastic. There was some sort of weird substance holding my front sight in. There were marrs in the parkerization from a site tool where the factory-installed the rear sight with zero grace. The trigger was only marginally better, the sites were terrible, and the rear beavertail was so precisely machine that it actually cut into my hand and made it very uncomfortable compared to any other brand of Hipower clone or Hipowers themselves. When it hurt my hand after a couple rain sessions from where the sharp edge was digging into my thumb joint that was the nail in the coffin for me. This gun in my opinion should be a better shooter than any other because of the changes from the original design yet, at least in my experience, it's just not. I actually think the forged parts and tighter tolerances may be working against it. The price is right so I would say get one over a cheaper clone, but if you can have the original then go for the Browning/FN. Trust me.
