The Prodigy 1911 DS from Springfield Armory is a GREAT "budget" 2011, but it can be even better with some upgrades... I already had the EGW Ignition Kit installed by Skips Gunz, along with some other goodies, but I've always wanted to upgrade the thumb safety, as well. The original one was kind of squishy and it was the only part of this pistol that didn't feel high quality, so I fit and installed the EGW stainless steel ambi thumb safety and it made a HUGE difference! There are many reasons to have a good thumb safety on a 1911/2011 and I illustrate those reasons in this video. Let me know what upgrades you've done to your Prodigy in the Comments and don't forget to Subscribe!

I agree with your modifications and reasoning behind each mod. I have a Prodigy and followed the same path with mine. Everything I have done to it makes sense and results in a more reliable and accurate pistol. I love my Prodigy! Also, EGW is the way to go along with Atlas.

Yep I sent mine to skips gunz as well. He really does do a great job. I did my C2 myself after learning how to take the prodigy apart and put it back together I felt more comfortable.

That's exactly what happened with me. After Skips Gunz did the initial work, I decided to take the thing apart and learn about it, myself.

I installed all the same parts as you except the safeties, If you change the slide stop buy the 10-8 model, exactly the right size and it makes the slide to frame fit just a little bit tighter. Love my 4.25" Prodigy, I come from a .40 cal STI race gun.

worst part on mine factory wise was the thumb safety. same thing mushy play in the off position. the prodigy is a good base for those who like to modify stuff.

Yeah. That was the worst part on mine, as well. Springfield needs to work on the Prodigy safety, it sounds like, although I have a friend who has one and his original safety feels great...?

Where on the amby did you modify? I’m have having issues since I installing pr egw ignition kit. When I put safety on - very hard and no click. Full safety off, no issues and clicks? So what gives?? I’d appreciate your advice. Good video, thx!

Can you confirm that the safety engages and disengages without issue if using your left thumb? Im left handed and if I try to use the right safety if does a lot of the same things you mentioned.

Yes. It works great now. The original safety didn't work very well on the right side. I'm left-handed, too, but I shoot right-handed for some reason.
