01:55 Southerly 480 Sailing in the Solent
02:42 Spring line Example 2 - leaving one line on
05:04 Springing on to come in to a dock
06:06 Solent Sailing to the Needles
Worry about maneuvering your boat in tight quarters? Using a spring line to help docking and leaving a dock can make it easier to handle a boat in confined spaces. We show some examples in the small Hythe Marina in Southampton UK. We also take you on a sail to the famous Needles.

Yes definately more of these 'how to' videos. As a single hander using springs, and spring bridles, (set up as slip-lines) is a very useful way of getting on and off a dock. And I am very impressed that you have bow and stern thrusters and didn't use them - that is classy.

Very prudent and safety minded to practice the new boat without the thrusters. You know that things seem to fail at the worst possible time, but you will be prepared. Like the educational videos very much.

Hey Capt'n Pat. You know I love your vids { HELL of a lot of work, single handing .} My son bought me, us , A C&C 25 about six years ago. He works on the lakers here in Canada. He showed me the spring line and it's importance for all sorts of big and small ship, boat, handling in harbour. Only diff between the big ship lines and ours was , 3" steel and five eight's poly . lol.

Hi Patrick. Yes it is nice seeing you checking out the other channels. Like I've said many times before you are right up there with the best as far as sailing videos go on the net. I knew of, Paul & Sheryl almost 30 years ago in Toronto when they first began there amazing journey. I am meeting up with them in the Canary Islands in November to do the Transatlantic crossing. I will be 27 days with them and I can tell you I am over the moon about it. You take care and keep your videos coming. I do look forward to each and everyone of them.

This spring line to push off a dock looks simple enough Paul.....nice to have Sheryl aboard so you only need to ask once to do something. Your new vessel sure has nice lines. You ruined me on keels and now I only want a swing keel....and cannot find one that I can afford....I think everyone that has moved thru your wake also now wants one. Thanks Paul ;).

Great to see the tutorials on the tricky parts of boating. I'm sure these are simple things once you know the techniques but so invaluable to learn if you don't. Short tip videos are great. The animations really helped. I'd dread those maneuvers at the moment. Nice to also see that even with people as experienced as yourselves that it doesn't always go to plan but your expertise meant that you were able to recover and adapt anyway. Thanks again

Guys. Good and informative. Springing off on the bow or stern can get you out of so many tight spots! When coming in to a pontoon or dock the centre cleat first gives the helm the ability to drive the boat or pull the boat into position in wind or tide situations. Be good to see you demo this on your new boat. Left the Solent 1st June currently Port St Denis Bay of Biscay heading South like you. Sail Safe and fair winds. Ant & Cid xx

So very well done again and I love that you always wear your safety gear even in the harbor, at all times. That is what my wife and I always did also. I only wish more people, ALL boaters did the same. We know of people, too many, that have died at the docks and when entering the harbor as well as when out to sea. Many were avoidable by simply ALWAYS wearing your safety gear when topside on your boat.

Paul and Sheryl, Greatly informative video. Keep the info videos coming. Love the several series you guys put together in the Bahamas a couple of years ago. In this current one I LOVE the superimposed graphic of your new boat on the aerial shots. The other thing that would help in spring line and other docking and undocking techniques would be to show the position of your rudders and the direction of the prop thrust on that boat graphic and discuss how rudder position and the prop direction also help swing the boat. Still not a boat owner yet, but its getting closer. "Barney"
