    Hello Alex, i wanna tell you that since you posted that first beekeeping video i fell in love with the art of bees. My army contract ended so i got stranded without a job and i thought, bees... why not? Alex did it right? And so i did, i asked my father for help, and we bought our first two hives! (last year), WELL LOOK AT ME NOW! Im out here catching swarms, making candles and i have more than 20 hives now, and i love this bee world so much, thank you for inspiring me Alex, in a way, it was all thanks to you!

    Hey alex i am really happy your youtube channel has grown enough for you to get sponsors, but please be mindfull of what sponsors you accept, because better help is not a good company. They have on multiple occasions sold user's data that the users thought was confidential conversations to their therapist to third parties. I hope you are able to steer clear of better help sponsorships in the future!

    68  And your Lord inspired the bee: “Set up hives in the mountains, and in the trees, and in what they construct.” 69  Then eat of all the fruits, and go along the pathways of your Lord, with precision. From their bellies emerges a fluid of diverse colors, containing healing for the people. Surely in this is a sign for people who reflect. 1  In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful. 2  Praise be to God, Lord of the Worlds. 3  The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. 4  Master of the Day of Judgment. 5  It is You we worship, and upon You we call for help. 6  Guide us to the straight path. 7  The path of those You have blessed, not of those against whom there is anger, nor of those who are misguided. 2  God, there is no god but He, the Living, the Eternal. 4  To Him belongs everything in the heavens and everything on earth. He is the Sublime, the Magnificent. 11  Originator of the heavens and the earth. He made for you mates from among yourselves, and pairs of animals, by means of which He multiplies you. There is nothing like Him. He is the Hearing, the Seeing. 3  He sent down to you the Book with the Truth, confirming what came before it; and He sent down the Torah and the Gospel. 4  Aforetime, as guidance for mankind; and He sent down the Criterion. Those who have rejected God’s signs will have a severe punishment. God is Mighty, Able to take revenge. 5  Nothing is hidden from God, on earth or in the heaven. 6  It is He who forms you in the wombs as He wills. There is no god except He, the Almighty, the Wise. 31  Say, “If you love God, then follow me, and God will love you, and will forgive you your sins.” God is Forgiving and Merciful. 32  Say, “Obey God and the Messenger.” But if they turn away-God does not love the faithless. 33  God chose Adam, and Noah, and the family of Abraham, and the family of Imran, over all mankind. 34  Offspring one of the other. God is Hearer and Knower. 35  The wife of Imran said, “My Lord, I have vowed to You what is in my womb, dedicated, so accept from me; You are the Hearer and Knower.” 36  And when she delivered her, she said, “My Lord, I have delivered a female,” and God was well aware of what she has delivered, “and the male is not like the female, and I have named her Mary, and have commended her and her descendants to Your protection, from Satan the outcast.” 37  Her Lord accepted her with a gracious reception, and brought her a beautiful upbringing, and entrusted her to the care of Zechariah. Whenever Zechariah entered upon her in the sanctuary, he found her with provision. He said, “O Mary, where did you get this from?” She said, “It is from God; God provides to whom He wills without reckoning.” 38  Thereupon Zechariah prayed to his Lord; he said, “My Lord, bestow on me good offspring from Your presence; You are the Hearer of Prayers.” 39  Then the angels called out to him, as he stood praying in the sanctuary: “God gives you good news of John; confirming a Word from God, and honorable, and moral, and a prophet; one of the upright.” 40  He said, “My Lord, how will I have a son, when old age has overtaken me, and my wife is barren?” He said, “Even so, God does whatever He wills.” 41  He said, “My Lord, give me a sign.” He said, “Your sign is that you shall not speak to the people for three days, except by gestures. And remember your Lord much, and praise in the evening and the morning.” 42  The angels said, “O Mary, God has chosen you, and has purified you. He has chosen you over all the women of the world. 43  “O Mary, be devoted to your Lord, and bow down, and kneel with those who kneel.” 44  These are accounts from the Unseen, which We reveal to you. You were not with them when they cast their lots as to which of them would take charge of Mary; nor were you with them as they quarreled. 45  The Angels said, “O Mary, God gives you good news of a Word from Him. His name is the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, well-esteemed in this world and the next, and one of the nearest. 46  He will speak to the people from the crib, and in adulthood, and will be one of the righteous.” 47  She said, “My Lord, how can I have a child, when no man has touched me?” He said, “It will be so. God creates whatever He wills. To have anything done, He only says to it, ‘Be,’ and it is.” 48  And He will teach him the Scripture and wisdom, and the Torah and the Gospel. 49  A messenger to the Children of Israel: “I have come to you with a sign from your Lord. I make for you out of clay the figure of a bird; then I breathe into it, and it becomes a bird by God’s leave. And I heal the blind and the leprous, and I revive the dead, by God’s leave. And I inform you concerning what you eat, and what you store in your homes. In that is a sign for you, if you are believers.” 50  “And verifying what lies before me of the Torah, and to make lawful for you some of what was forbidden to you. I have come to you with a sign from your Lord; so fear God, and obey me.” 51  “God is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. That is a straight path.” 52  When Jesus sensed disbelief on their part, he said, “Who are my allies towards God?” The disciples said, “We are God’s allies; we have believed in God, and bear witness that we submit.” 53  “Our Lord, we have believed in what You have revealed, and we have followed the Messenger, so count us among the witnesses.” 54  They planned, and God planned; but God is the Best of planners. 55  God said, “O Jesus, I am terminating your life, and raising you to Me, and clearing you of those who disbelieve. And I will make those who follow you superior to those who disbelieve, until the Day of Resurrection. Then to Me is your return; then I will judge between you regarding what you were disputing. 56  As for those who disbelieve, I will punish them with a severe punishment, in this world and the next, and they will have no helpers. 57  And as for those who believe and do good works, He will give them their rewards in full. God does not love the unjust.” 58  This is what We recite to you of the Verses and the Wise Reminder. 59  The likeness of Jesus in God’s sight is that of Adam: He created him from dust, then said to him, “Be,” and he was. 60  The truth is from your Lord, so do not be of those who doubt. 61  And if anyone disputes with you about him, after the knowledge that has come to you, say, “Come, let us call our children and your children, and our women and your women, and ourselves and yourselves, and let us invoke God’s curse on the liars.” 62  This is the narrative of truth: there is no god but God. God is the Mighty, the Wise. 63  But if they turn away-God knows the corrupt. 64  Say, “O People of the Book, come to terms common between us and you: that we worship none but God, and that we associate nothing with Him, and that none of us takes others as lords besides God.” And if they turn away, say, “Bear witness that we have submitted.” 65  O People of the Book! Why do you argue about Abraham, when the Torah and the Gospel were not revealed until after him? Will you not reason? 66  Here you are-you argue about things you know, but why do you argue about things you do not know? God knows, and you do not know. 67  Abraham was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was a Monotheist, a Muslim. And he was not of the Polytheists. 68  The people most deserving of Abraham are those who followed him, and this prophet, and those who believe. God is the Guardian of the believers. 69  A party of the People of the Book would love to lead you astray, but they only lead themselves astray, and they do not realize it. 170  O people! The Messenger has come to you with the truth from your Lord, so believe-that is best for you. But if you disbelieve, to God belongs everything in the heavens and the earth. God is Omniscient and Wise. 171  O People of the Scripture! Do not exaggerate in your religion, and do not say about God except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, is the Messenger of God, and His Word that He conveyed to Mary, and a Spirit from Him. So believe in God and His messengers, and do not say, “Three.” Refrain-it is better for you. God is only one God. Glory be to Him-that He should have a son. To Him belongs everything in the heavens and the earth, and God is a sufficient Protector. 172  The Messiah does not disdain to be a servant of God, nor do the favored angels. Whoever disdains His worship, and is too arrogant-He will round them up to Himself altogether. 173  But as for those who believe and do good works, He will pay them their wages in full, and will increase His grace for them. But as for those who disdain and are too proud, He will punish them with an agonizing punishment. And they will find for themselves, apart from God, no lord and no savior. 174  O people! A proof has come to you from your Lord, and We sent down to you a clear light. 175  As for those who believe in God, and hold fast to Him, He will admit them into mercy and grace from Him, and will guide them to Himself in a straight path. 84  Say, “We believe in God, and in what was revealed to us; and in what was revealed to Abraham, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Patriarchs; and in what was given to Moses, and Jesus, and the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we submit.” 85  Whoever seeks other than Islam as a religion, it will not be accepted from him, and in the Hereafter he will be among the losers. Read The Quran

    Some tips for you you can split after the summer solstice after the honey is removed and treat once you have mated queens just before the new brood is capped. Treat for varroa at least twice per year. The first one as early as possible. Use aptlifevar is cheap and works. I kill all my queens after the solstice. Bring them through the winter as a strong nuke. You are doing a fantastic job with your bees and videos. Thanks

    Great work Alex! As a fellow beekeeper I have learned a few things from you, so thx for that! Just a side note tho: are you sure you should be judging the performance of your queens this quickly? Bees have a rhythm in which they lay drones and worker bees and I'm not sure you wanna kill a queen, just because it has been "under performing" for a few day/weeks 🤔 Also a piece of advice regarding the swarm you caught. If you keep the swarm box locked for 2 days after catching it (watch out for good ventilation), there is less chance of them moving on again or moving back into old hive

    I have seen this myself in my colonies; one colony put on heavy brood early in the spring and then laid off, while another colony kept their numbers quite small till mid spring, and then went into a crazy brood bonanza. Now the latter colony is significantly larger than the former, and I'm actually a bit concerned about the former at this point. That said, I do think it's a good idea to retire queens after a few years of service. It's best to do it early enough for them to ramp up for your nectar flow if you do it in the spring. You could leave it up to the bees, but managing them directly here gives you a bit more insurance for the season.

We've been through all the ideas, highs and lows of the start and the continuation of bee keeping . If anyone sees Alex's videos please become a bee keeper . We've 10 hives, I can easily make another 5 hives, we do splits . It's like watching your videos from our past . Love your videos. As a note , candles we tried with candles over a period of time . If we could go back , I would use the wax Cappings , I would use it all for using it to coat plastic foundation , giving the bees a massive head start. Selling candles depends on location , price etc . Put your earnings back into the hives , but not into so much gear . I've loads of boxes we don't use .

    hello, we have such a tactic in collecting wax in the apiary. We simply add an empty frame to the edge of the hive and the bees expose it with wax and cover it with the drone and then we cut the wax and this also prevents the varroa destructor mite from spreading because they often lay in the drones

    Alex, I would try and look into using heavy duty nitrile gloves, roughly 9-10mm. The blue ones you currently use are the thinnest and easy to tear. The heavy duty ones are really strong, would still allow you to have good tactile feel/control and hopefully stop bee stings from getting you. You might still get stung through the gloves but it would definitely prevent the stinger from getting embedded in your skin.

Working close together with relatives and loved ones can be difficult but always remember that no one loves you more than your bro! Now that you've dipped your toe into brewing, have you considered making mead? Honey is by far the biggest expense in meadmaking so having your own bees would make it pretty easy! It's my favorite alcohol personally and a great way to use up your honey if you harvest a ton this year. I personally find meadmaking a pretty simple, easy process, all my brews have been probably less than 8 hours of effort on my part, it's mostly waiting

    Wondering... remember this is just a question. When requeening the original hives with the newer brood, instead of killing the older queen... couldn't you give them a smaller box with just her one frame with some of her brood and two empty frames... put her elsewhere close by then checking on them time to time?

  • @bee_folk

    Enjoying this latest episode as usual bud, one daft thing, twist and lift that crown board or such like, saves potentially lifting frames If stuck down. Daft I know, one thing our mentor told us. 👍

  • @won2winit
    @won2winit26 күн бұрын

    Alex some of the brood frames in the first box looked very dark so the hive would benefit from having these removed and fresh new foundation added, there are various way to do this either gradually or in one big hit. I'm currently adding two new frames per hive and once drawn repeat till I'm happy the remaining older frame can stay for another season or two before they get removed

    Your raw honeycomb is so rich and dark coloured meaning the bees are surrounded by a variety of plants, rather than predominantly one plant like Borage where the comb is much lighter in colour. You could sell those boxes of comb for about £10 each. Nature's food! 😊

    Regarding the requeening especially the plans for the split it would have been better to make the split up on the same visit where you despatched your other queen. That way you would be removing the emergency queen cells in both on day 8 prior to adding the BMH queens. Also by not shaking the bees off the frames during inspection you can and will miss sneaky queencells tucked away in corners etc
