Excellent video but it misses two important regions of Central Asia and South East Asia and also Indian Ocean islands for that matter, like Maldives, Mauritania and Lakshadweep. Islam was also spread to South East Asian countries through trade. It spread to Central Asia through trade and missionaries besides conquests by Persian and Turkic warriors like Samanids and Tamerlane besides the Tatar conversion in 13th century CE like Mahmud Ghazan.

The mosque that’s shown in India was built by the King/ Ruler of that area. As he was a witness to the miracle of the spilling of the moon while in India. On a trip to the Maldives, he confirmed the incident with the Maldives’ King and found out about a holy man (pbuh) who facilitated that miracle. He showed to meet Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) in person, accepted Islam and return back to his kingdom and established the masjid/mosque. Even the word Kerala is actually Khair ul-Lah (Blessing of AlLah/God), and their slogan is God’s own country.

It's the completed opposite if you only but knew. There's no such thing as "Wahhabi" "Wahhabism" etc. There's is only Sunni/Salafi. Besides, Muhammad Ibn Abd' Al Wahhab is the person you're referring to when saying "Wahhabism" because that term is an abbreviation from the Latters Last name (Al Wahhab..). Muhammad Ibn Abd'Al Wahhab was a *Salafi*. A Salafi is a person who follows the early predecessors of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ, termed the "Salaf Al Salih" (The Rightly Guided Companions). The Salaf are deemed the most trustworthy of people who are the most closest to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, as most of them lived during his time. Sufis, Shi'as, Ahmadis and everyone outside "Ahl Al Sunnah Wal Jama'ah" ( the people of the Sunnah and Community ) are innovators, this, are described as non-muslims/Murtads/kaffir. If you want to know real Islam, or more information on this religion, you should look at Publications from people who _actually follow the Prophet in all walks of life_ who are the Salaf. Or The Sunnis. Islamqa.info is a great starting point.

Ahmed I hope the same way brother, but just know the reality of life and Islam as it is. The only uniting power we have is for one sect to rule supreme. Islam, by following the Sunnah and Jama'ah, is the only true Islam there is. Shia are Murtads. They are Hypocrites that curse the sahabah, wives of the prophet, and also twist Islamic theology to their thinking. Shi'as are no different then Jews in Deceiving the masses about the scriptures and creating innovations in the deen. You must know this. Falsehood and truth can never unite. And will never unite.

Ahmed Algeria, Tunisia, Indonesia, Yemen and even Uzbekistan are Sunni majority countries to say a few. Bahrain, Iraq Also have sizeable Shia Majority population as well. Point in being, Sunni and Shia are split upon *Ideology* not "Nation" nor "race" even tho it _seems_ so.

Few things you should fix before you put it on Khan academy. 0:17 - "At the time was still a continuation of Rome" - Very weird thing to say. There is no Historian that I know of that still holds the idea that the Byzantine empire at any moment of time stopped being Rome. The term "Byzantine" became popular in the 19th century among historians. The native greeks called themselves Rhomanoi (Romans) long after the fall of Constantinople. Also your map lacks the reference to the Rashidun Caliphate( "Rightly guided" 632-661) who did much of the conquering. And the Byzantine Empire's loss of Italy to the Lombards. And Spain wasn't entirely conquered as you show on the map, the north (which was NEVER conquered) of Spain was in the possesion of the Visigothic kingdom of Asurias. 5:45 Sufism still exists in Islam. As the matter of fact: current Sufi orders include Alians, Bektashi Order, Mevlevi Order, Ba 'Alawiyya, Chishti Order, Jerrahi, Naqshbandi, Mujaddidi, Ni'matullāhī, Qadiriyya, Qalandariyya, Sarwari Qadiriyya, Shadhiliyya, Suhrawardiyya, Ashrafi Family, Saifiah (Naqshbandiah), and Uwaisi.

VaeSapiens Absolutely. Weak video. Poorly researched. That map is wrong. The north of the Iberian Peninsula was never ruled by Muslims, because it was never conquered by Muslims. The Great Mosque at Xian is oriented towards Petra, not Mecca. Mecca didn't even exist when this mosque was built. And Khan Academy lost me there. There is only so much factual inaccuracy I can tolerate.

The map is wrong in Europe. Galicia, Asturias and Cantabria were never occupied by Islam, there were some raids, just like in France, but never an occupation. In fact the territories between the Cantabrian mountains and the Duero river had been mostly evacuated to the Asturias, so that area was a no-man's-land. By 740, the kingdom of Asturias was already resettling the lands North of the Miño and in 750, Santiago de Compostela was already part of the bishopric of Iria. On the other hand, Septimania in southern France was under Muslim occupation until 759, so it should be on your map. This is the type of baseless cancer I was expecting from people who have never been to the middle east or talked to any muslim. People are people. There are criminals and bad apples in all populations. Don't be so condescending just because you see only one side of them.

There was no way that the Prophet Muhammad pbuh could have copied from the Christians and Jews. Because there were none in Makkah! It was the hub of polytheism and idolatry. In these surroundings, came the pure monotheistic doctrine of Islam. How did The Prophet know about the names and stories of 'biblical' prophets? to be honest .. Afghani's after adopting Islam, empires became successful at the cost of invading i.e war and violence .. However the one who adopted Buddhism like china,Korea,japan ,Thailand and Vietnam are economically and technologically forward and rich.. this richness came as fruit of there culture and hard work ..i.e karma that defines a work.. riches and middle class enjoy good quality of life and freedom of life. In Buddhism men and women enjoy equal freedom . Islam on the core may be peaceful or good(as said by Muslims), but the people who practice it can be easily corrupted or manipulated .. this is what happening in Syria,Iran,Pakistan,Bangladesh,Nigeria,Niger,Sudan,Somalia etc. Islam is a religion limited to texts and verse , but it's not a way of life like other east Asian religion. In Islam women are not considered equal to men (i don't know what has written in Quran about equality among gender ..but practically Islamic nations are not in support to gender equality) Only Islamic country that is thriving on its hard work is Indonesia , because of its preservation of Hindu and Buddhist culture. lot of Islamic countries are economically unstable and some are at civil war. There are lot of things i can say about .. but i will stop it here as people who follow Islam find this truth hard to swallow and will be unable to come up with logical explanation , and will be replying with verse from Quran. :). Buddha existed and was the god lived among human where as there is no proof of existence to Allah except his prophet. I'm not against any religion .. I'm stating the fact

Well most of the People remained non Muslims until the 10th century except for Arabia The Arabs Conquerors weren't religious people since the Arabian Culture was far from being religious unlike the Persians and Byzantines Most of people became Muslims later because of Trade , economic and political reasons .

A lot of inaccuracy with missionary part...that's Christianity! most of us non arabs became muslim objectively for the search of the one "true" GOD then you can say trading with other nations and tribes. The least of them came by the sword as the western histories would say.

I doubt there are trade routes across the deserts of Arab or Syria. Most of Islamic history was written by standard Islamic narration so my opinion regarding of it's authenticity is some of them are questionable. Archeological records and other sources would be helpful

They're simply too late. In the end of Abbasid era Nusantara was still reigned by Buddhism and Hinduism, respectively Srivijaya and Chola. Perlak was the first sultanate in southeast but still under Srivijaya's control. I doubt that the earliest Malay kingdom of Dharmasraya and Langkasuka were already an Islamic kingdom. The first Islamic nation in southeast was Brunei sultanate, only two hundred years after Mongoloids and Indian became Islamic empires and a hundred years before Acheh and Malacca.

Noah Big boy do you have any Byzantine or persian reference to this supposed “messengers” who were killed? If you don’t then why should I believe the conqueres version of event? And even if that actually happened the Arabs shouldn’t have sent someone in the middle of a war where the Persians and Romans probably thought it was an enemy. Stupid move if that actually happend. Secondly the supposed “letter” that was sent was hostile in nature so why would they accept it. No one attacked the Arabian peninsula since it was of no value. Plus these events that you’ve mentioned where written 300 years later , the authenticity is more likely a fake story to make out as if the Arabs where innocent to cover the fact that they murdered raped kept slaves forced converted masses of people.
