    Haven't used an gun extension for this purpose... Always use a 3 or 6 foot pole gun. I also roll at least one coat of topcoat(celings and walls) so the paint is worked into texture. A roller texture is easier to touch up later on than just spray...Love a 12-21 or 23 tip. Thanks for your videos

    Hello, I want to understand the process involved after the drywalls are installed. I believe you'll first skim the wall, sand it, spray primer and then spray paint, right? Is roller used for any of the paint jobs? Trying to understand what aspects of the job will the sprayer be used. Very new to this approach

    hey good video and looks like you guys have a good gig going, efficient and quality work from what it seems. just a little tip for ya that might help you guys. not saying you don't do a great job by any means just one professional that likes to help another, I don't only have expertise in residential painting applications but also design & app expertise and business as well. some homeowners or customers can sometimes have a great eye, or hire people, like myself, that have a great eye and can tell small variations in paint coverage... long story short I guess my tip to you would be to start your spray at the corners. there's nothing wrong with taking your finger off the trigger. sometimes haste can lack. when starting your spray in the corners, you can actually mentally control your line of attack and also expect a more evenly coated wall. your corner coverage will precisely tell you exactly how to apply to the rest of the wall around it. it'll all be in the hand after that. try it out.

    Montana Painter is correct, I back roll most of my coats of interior spray. Even my primer coat. Do an experiment where you spray a section of wall so that it is solid and uniform and then take an 18 inch roller with a three eights nap and back roll it, you’ll find out you have way too much paint. Then spray an area so that when you back roll it you have a nice uniform code that is worked into the substrate. Just as the Montana Painter has explained. When you are doing large commercial buildings interior with large walls 20 feet high touching up becomes a lot easier when you don’t have to repaint entire sections because everyone knows just a spray coat will not touch up, Not to mention the cost savings in the amount of material you will use on let’s say a 400 to 600 gallon project.

    Hi, so do you recommend spraying a lighter coat and always back rolling the paint with 3/8 nap roller? What if you are dealing with a level 5 smooth finish ceiling, and you want to put an eggshell sheen in the kitchen /dining room connected area. Will back rolling give you lap marks? Or is the fact that you sprayed the paint on in a fast fashion, help lesson or eliminate that. Lastly, whether just spraying or spraying and back rolling, is one nice spray coat sufficient?

    Love your videos and personality! ha ha. On the primer video, you taped but did not show the caulk. On the top coat video, you showed no taping, but yes to the caulk. Did you tape + caulk for the primer, then rip it off while the caulk was still wet? And then tape + caulk again for the topcoat? Or did you use the same tape for both primer and topcoat, and only applied the caulk for the topcoat? Thanks. I just bought a sprayer and I'm getting ready to paint my entire house. Its empty, and its going to be a rental.

  • @teejaydoty4644

    You can spray on every step plastic off all furniture 2 wide paper on floor below trim but always especially with any kind of gloss/satin backroll walls and ceilings as well unless their flat maybe eggshell... these are my rules becuz I'm a one man crew... My procedure goes patch holes caulk always 1st throughout area take as many doors off as possible scissors in middle of 1 or multiple rooms if possible mask doorknob and hinges spray them and as much of trim possible as well as casings then day 2 mask doorways n trim sand spot prime with wall color hit walls 2 coats backroll... Day three drop plastic hit the lids {ceilings} reassemble what you were able to get done then repeat process my only exception is walls in bathrooms and around cabinets/backsplash area brush n roll! I 90% of the time never get uninhabited repaints and never do new construction nor do work 4 contractors the pay they offer is SLAVE labor and I make triple doing repaints as well as my only employee being a handheld and wheelie Graco sprayer!! Must say exteriors is where the cheddah is at me a masker my wheelie Graco some drop clothes and 3 extension ladders and my short pole with roller and only use Sherwin Williams Super paint... PEOPLE think I'm crazy for backrolling exteriors unless it's hardiplank but the coverage and even coats I achieve are second to none brush n roll eaves n trim.... If anyone wants to know how to make all the MONEY that's how I take longer but my quality is far better and there is not 1 painting job I can't do by myself!

    Can I ask how many coats do you spray for new construction? In this video you sprayed one coat then removed the masking. If I need to spray two coats, do I need to remove masking right after the first coat, wait until the first cost to dry, mask again, then spray the second coat?

  • @grimreefer213

    @grimreefer213

    I know it’s a year old but typically you’ll do one coat of primer and two coats of finish on walls. You can do one coat of primer and one coat on the ceilings though with spot priming, depending on your scenario. I do a lot of commercial jobs and new construction/remodels, you don’t have to pull your tape in between coats. It depends on what surface you’re taping to, how long the tape is going to be there and stuff like that. We don’t have the time or luxury to mask more than once, so we do it once and get it all done then pull it soon after. If you leave it too long it’s hard to get off. If you’re a painter i’m sure you’ll have learned this stuff by now.

    Do you recommend back rolling the walls on a home that is not new construction? I'm going to be painting my entire home, walls, ceilings, new trim to be installed. For the walls and ceilings I will be using flat paint. The home will be completely empty and new floors will be installed. Current paint on the walls appears to be original from 1995 when the home was built.

    There are a lot of factors that determine whether or not we back roll

  • @krausecommercialpainting3359

    We find that backrolling the *finish* coat is all we really need to do. I know plenty of guys that don't even do that and their work still looks amazing. As the poster of the vid said, there are many factors to consider. My personal opinion is anything above a dead flat (matte, eggshell, satin - etc.) should be back rolled on finish coat to help out with touch ups, but that certainly doesn't guarantee success. Enamel wall paints are very unforgiving on touch ups, especially in rooms with lots of light.

    You don't need to calculate sqftage but for paint quantities. For labor, just imagine yourself standing in the rooms, and go with your gut. Then imagine what other guys are going with. Then add in a little game-theory.
