FYI:? We use a 1 1/2 or 2 " Tape along the wall at ceiling. Leave the bottom of tape unstuck, follow behind sliding plastic under loose edge of tape. Then run bead of caulk at ceiling. We did use stilts at first with the plastic but found the roll had to be moved ahead by someone on floor so we use a ladder. Although the tape is applied using stilts. ( Great Videos Idaho ! :)

Better alternative is to use 1 1/2 tape while just pressing top side in. Take 9' or 12' painters plastic and attach to bottom half of tape that is not stuck on walls. Then go back and pull plastic down over walls. I can do this with standard ceiling height without using a ladder. Twice as fast as what you are doing plus less cost in materials as you are effectively masking it twice. This also allows you to pull entire room down while standing in one spot.

Usually you caulk all your masking in these situations but i didnt see you doing any of that in this video. Thanks again for all the videos and sharing your knowledge!

Hey great video, i’ve been a painter for about 25 years now and been spraying a lot of ceilings doing restoration projects. I’m always dealing with discoloured ceilings because of cooking oil‘s and just every day living. I sometimes find when I’m spraying that the texture is quite old or a different aggregate and they absorb the paint in different spots and I sometimes get those dry spots. Because of the different colour and of the new paint put on it is quite noticeable when that happens. We try to cross spray everything but sometimes we just continue to see those dry spots or flashes. What would you suggest that we do to avoid these types of situations? We generally use different types of paints from Sherwin-Williams or other manufacturers. We always use flat paint for all of our ceilings. Once in a while if there is significant staining we switch to a oil base flat sealer. Oh I also noticed in your video at the edge of your spray fan seems to be leaving a thin line on either side. Do you think the pressure is too low or maybe the orifice of the spray tip is not wide enough? I watch a lot of your videos dude and respect your work for sure.

Did you ever get a good answer on the tape tearing paint off the wall UNDERNEATH the paint? I've been having that issue for quite a while... With a new builder/drywall crew, we hardly have the issue EVEN WITHOUT PRIMING! Our process has not changed, only the builder and drywall crew. I think it may have something to do with how the mud is mixed when they apply texture. Sometimes it is AWFUL and other times hardly even tears... We've tried 2050, 2020, Frogtape, IPG PG5, 2090 Blue... and I think that's it.

I just use a two metal shields to shield the ceiling. While one guy is on stilts spraying top half of walls the helper is cleaning the shield with water in a 5 gallon bucket then swaps the guy out on stilts with the clean shield. Then the guy on the ground sprays the bottom half of the ceilings horizontally as to not fan overspray up towards ceiling. This way the ceilings can be painted before lunch and the walls after because there is only the need for minimal dry time (tacking up) thats it.

Why not use stilts. They make things so much faster.

Just curious that you use a roller pan, is that just for the video for the DIY'ers? I've been painting since the mid 70's and have never met a pro that uses them. Everyone I know always rolls out of a 5 gal. bucket

Cervizzi Painting probably smaller walls, didn't use the bucket?.. I don't use my 5gal bucket on smaller walls or projects.. I do have a 12" 3gal bucket that I just got from Wooster. That thing is perfectly sized. The one bigger was said to not have a lid, so that kinda sucked.

It seems like putting paper is an extra step. We've always simply taped the plastic to the top of the wall then tack a couple of pieces on the center to hold the plastic down. Any advantages?

Someone on your crew needs to learn to walk on a pair of drywall stilts. You'd save an enormous amount of time going up & down that step ladder.
