Great video and has solved this hard shifting problem on my Scrambler 850. I used a spring with the same length but with less compression and works perfectly.

Great information bro. Another really awesome tip for the smoother accelleration from takeoff for plowing i use the epi green clutch spring. Its rsted at 2200 rpm as opposed to the red stock 2750 rpm clutch spring. This gives me much better control when plowing or riding trails. Uses more of that low end power. Buttery smooth

I just had the shift bellcrank break on a 2011 XP850 because of the hard shifting. I got a replacement ordered and I'll try your method to avoid the problem in the future.

Awesome video, I have a 2011 850 xp EPS and the only real complaint I have is I hate the shifting.. Its so stiff I feel like I am going to brake something everytime I try to shift it. I will take a look today and see if I can get your fix to work for me. I even thought maybe ace hardware might have a softer spring that would work. Thanks again.

At Wanderer.. where did you find your spring with less tension? Btw my 850 touring was stiff and got stuck, I ended up pushing too hard and stripped the 3” aluminum linkage & had to replace. 😭

Is it still shifting nicely after the spring being compressed or is it gone back to being hard to shift in and out of different gears?

Ok, here's my stupid A comment lol - a lot of what I have read speculates on a bad primary /primary bearing, high idling, clutch misalignment, or bad shift cable - while I'm not saying that these could not be an issue, they are just not my issue, I have read and searched so much and your video is the closest I have gotten to the hard shift issue. I have a 2012 polaris ranger Xp 800. I have looked everywhere for some guidance on how to make my shifting easier, with the exception of taking apart my shift linkage, I just out of pocket now. My shifting isn't very hard at times, but sometimes I have to jerk it into gear, so if you and your buddy got it to work good for you both. If you run across anything that could help, please post, thanks in advance

Secondary clutch is to tight causing the belt to ride to high making the 2nd clutch spin while trying to shift. If its stiff shifting with the engine off, use a magnet and pull out the plunger from under the spring, round the tip off a lil on the grinder. Just so it can jump from tooth to tooth easier

Any chance the shifter rod is bent and that’s why it’s so hard to shift?

THANKYOU..... I plow with my 1000xp. it's a rotten sum a gun to shift if your against the bank as well. tip.... BUY a extra aluminum shift arm. the splines are wimpy and if it hasn't failed yet. it will. I shifted with a wrench to get home. shifter and wrench on the nut at the same time did the trick. I also had my front diff blows all to hell from the pinion bearing plate is way wimpy. HD ATV GEAR makes a great upgraded bearing plate. comes with the bearing and seal installed. unbelievable how beefy the new bearing plate is. I also run a dayco xtx belt and oh boy so much better. Stock one blew at 500 miles. 2300 miles on the dayco N awesome. I run 30 inch monstermsyhams in itp wheels with no rubbing and no suspension mods expect cranked up preload. excellent tire.

@@mikeyaciuk1296 the secondary clutch needs a shim to open it a tad and full close. The belt is riding too high causing the belt to seem too short. This extra pressure makes them shift like shit.
