Sporter Stock for my Mauser K 98

After inheriting a Mauser K 98 rifle, I decided to sporterize it a bit by working on the bolt, and replacing the military stock with a sporter stock for deer hunting. Check out this little rifle as I transform it to a real deer hunting tool.

You scored on that stock! Getting such a close fit from a stock that was fitted to another rifle with another custom bolt handle with another custom Barrel was just some awesome luck! And the price was right too! Don't worry about that Gap at the back of the tang. When I fit a barrel action to a stock I always leave a gap at the back of the tank to prevent recoil forces from splitting the stock through the wrist. The purest would say you have to get some inletting black and some scrapers and fit the stock and action together, but as a good standard working/hunting rifle, I would just glass bed it in. Epoxy bedding will give you an excellent metal to would fit and never really give you any long-term problems. I hope you did good this last hunting season with that rifle!

Very interesting video the k 98 is the forunner of a lot of great rifle actions. And that stock wow you were very blessed to find that at that price. The 308 Winchester is the Deer Hunters preferred caliber here in WV other than 30-30 Win. So get out and enjoy the nature we are so blessed to have.😁

I'm just seeing this today 4/5/24. You have a nice looking Rifle . I recently bought a Mauser 98 Sporterized in 3006. It has the same pachmeyer pad. I put a Weaver scope on it to be period correct. I to want to hunt this fall with my Mauser.

Thanks for yet another interesting video. This Mauser 98 series showcases my favorite bolt action (along with its first cousin, the Model 70): a classic rifle becoming even more classy! Well done, Sir. Merry and Blessed Christmas to you and yours, and good fortune afield.

Great video from unboxing to finish sight-in. Classic rifle/cartridge. Should serve you well for the rest of your hunting days. That old stock is probably a Fajean (misspelled I'm sure) or maybe an old style Boyd's. They were popular way back. Better ammo will tighten those groups. Thanks for sharing. Subscribed today.

I'm about to do the same, any issues with the length of the 30-06 ? It barley fits in the magazine, & yes I have other mausers including a Peruvian in 30-06, all the same size, the Peruvian is notched on the reciever for 06 / stripper clips but I hand load it, it's tight & easy to deform the tips if not careful, I wish I could find an 8mm sporter barrel

curious as to why all lead was shed when shooting into water jugs but had good lead retention in wet newspaper. now you have one hell of a mess to clean off your range

Indeed so. The water jugs always seem to cause more upset to hunting bullets generally speaking. I think the hydraulic shock from the water jugs is more intense than the wet newspaper medium.

I think you are referring to my comment of the bullet "bouncing off" of the last jug. After the round blows through 4 jugs of water, it expended nearly all of it's energy, and so sometimes it will actually bounce off the last jug because there's not enough momentum left to penetrate the surface and end up inside to be captured. I should have explained my comment when I was looking for the mushroomed bullet.

The best place to buy stocks and for all of the different Mauser actions is Boyde's stocks. You have the option of choosing some 20 models of stocks and pick types of checkering patterns and allot of your own costuming work you want for the stock. I am choosing the Boyde's Parrie Hunter stocks then choose the Deer pattern fish scale checkering pattern and a 13 -1/4 length of pull and black for end caps for the last commercial Mauser 98 in 300 Wby magnum. The laminated wood color I picked was the Orange + gray color that reminds me of fall forest colors. KZread has many video's about Boyde's stocks
