Definitely a good thing to go on,ideally early in the year as a refresher for the season ahead. I've done the course twice over the years ,both times it was two days duration and I always had a really good time. I ride a sportsbike and the first time round I had a job keeping up when things got to the stage of ' demonstrating the theory works at higher speeds phase' . My course was held in N Wales though and some of our roads are like the TT mountain course, also I think the guy that used to run the courses locally actually pioneered the whole B/Safe scheme and retired with an MBE for services to Motorcycling. I would say everybody will learn something from the course and that information could be the knowledge that keeps you alive.

Nice video & voice over, I think. I would like to make this point, both from experience & yes I have done this & IAM course. My opinion is that advanced training is all to the good, but be flexible. Do not follow slavishly! Take a left hand bend, (UK) which you detailed. Forward observation using the limit point technique has one major consideration and that is to be very aware that oncoming vehicles can/will straddle the centre hazard lines. If you are right over to the edge (position 3) wheels just clipping the white line you will be in grave danger. Target fixation may prevent you from moving over to say, position 2. Okay, I know that adopting that position will allow you, in some circumstances, to see oncoming traffic early allowing you to move over away from danger. But on a long ride, fatigue , concentration & other factors may effect you. Then again, I am 150!

Funny you should post this today. I am back with the police tomorrow and my hope is to update the video to show the younger riders how fun it is. But also to take the bits that work for them and their riding now and modify as their riding does. The main thing to get across (as you said, and to expand upon) is keep riding, keep doing on courses, keep watching information online, take it all in and do what works for you. Bikesafe I still believe is the perfect introduction to advance learning 👍🏻

I would be very suprised to find riders that go on these days and don't learn a lot, particularly about observation, positioning and planning. It's one thing to know the theory, but most people won't put it properly into practice until they've had a good demonstration ride - the penny seems to drop and the transformation is very often instant and considerable. The majority of riders, and particularly blokes usually don't think that anyone can teach them anything, especially if they passed their test "first time" which apparently gets you instant promotion to Road God 😁 They generally come away from the course saying that they've always ridden like that but it's nice to have the refresher, or occasionly in the "some fell on stony ground" and they go away, riding the same as they always have. The riders that realise how much more there is to learn will always get the most out of it. A good friend of mine, Neil, from @Back2TheBike has done several of these in conjunction with his IAM training and was extremely impressed by the knowledge and professionalism that went into the demonstrated rides by the MP bikers. They've had the best training ever and to not take advantage of that to learn from is a no brainer. Stay safe out there - DB

Personally I think it should be mandatory a year after riding. It is the perfect gateway to teach riders a hell of a lot and hopefully start them on their way to learn more about system. Second it shows courses are easy and worth pursuing. Finally that the police are decent 👍🏻

@@yodomcat - it's only system and safety at the speed limit, but with a lot more emphasis on observation, positioning and planning - I've never liked that word "advanced" and Bikesafe and the IAM demonstrate the standard that we all should be driving at. Everyone should definitely sign up for it, an invaluable tool in any riders arsenal.

Interesting I definitely get the nervousness having a copper following behind " all day " I would just feel soo tense thinking every move I make is under scrutiny especially on the speeding side , cos I can get the odd time were I suddenly realize I didn't notice what the speed limit is and stuff like that to much tension but kudos for that one . : )

Honestly Malcolm it is not a worry. That was my fear and they allow for this and will let you know if you do it. If you do something constantly the officer will beep you and run through techniques to consider to stop doing what your doing. They want you learn and be a better rider so your license is safe!

Basically it is what you use to learn in class time, but now they ask you watch the videos online at your leisure then discuss at class time and it means less time talking and more time riding. The videos are good, short to the point and informative. Most are what you already know but a few nuggets of new info and good discussion points on the day.

Are you using a super low bitrate or something? All your videos are blurry beyond a couple of metres, a GoPro should have no issue with that.

Yes I nod.... Most traffic bike cops understand the enjoyment from making suitable progress however, they are also expected to demonstrate & encourage restraint when appropriate.....No getting away from the fact that sometimes enforcement is expected &/or required. Many cops ride in their own time...even those highly trained sometimes get things wrong. Anyone followed by a visible marked Police vehicle for a significant distance should arguably be doing so with speed appropriate observation & awareness. Top tip if stopped....Maybe be the one person that day to not show a bad attitude. Allegedly, it might tip the balance in your favour if an officer chooses to apply "the attitude test" (probably not a deal breaker if doing TT speeds in 30mph zone).
