Siete tutti invitati a partecipare all'edizione 2023 della rassegna "La Cultura Vien Viaggiando".
In un momento così triste della storia del mio amato Medio Oriente, l'ultima serata, il 24/11, sarà per noi tutti occasione di profonda riflessione, in quanto vi porterò virtualmente proprio in uno Stato di quest'area geografica: andremo in Iraq, nella regione abitata dai Curdi, attraverso la proiezione di un mio video documentario girato sul posto ad agosto 2022.

Nell’immaginario collettivo l’Iraq è sinonimo di deserto, pozzi di petrolio, guerra e terrorismo. La realtà però è molto più complessa: problemi di stabilità e sicurezza certo non mancano, soprattutto dopo la recente guerra contro lo Stato Islamico e la pandemia, che ha interessato anche questo Paese, nonché le continue interferenze dei Paesi vicini. C’è una parte dell’Iraq, però, che da alcuni anni gode di una certa stabilità e di un livello di sicurezza impensabili in quest’area geografica, dove la natura è ben più rigogliosa di quanto si possa immaginare: montagne, boschi e cascate praticamente ovunque! Notevole anche la ricchezza culturale e religiosa di questa regione autonoma: cristiani caldei, musulmani dervisci, l'arcaico culto degli yazidi, solo per menzionarne alcuni aspetti. Non mancano anche qui, però, le toccanti testimonianze del cruento passato nemmeno tanto remoto, come il genocidio subito dai curdi durante il regime di Saddam Hussein, e le vittime dei recenti attentati. Mi sono così recato ad agosto 2022 per verificare di persona la reale situazione da quelle parti, trovandola, per certi versi, persino molto migliorata, rispetto alla prima volta che misi piede in questa regione, nel marzo 2017. Sto parlando del Kurdistan Iracheno: un racconto di viaggio che non vi lascerà indifferenti!

In such a sad moment in the history of my beloved Middle East, the last evening, 24/11, will be an opportunity for deep reflection for us all, as I will virtually take you with me to a country in this geographical area: we will go to Iraq , in the region inhabited by the Kurds, through the screening of one of my video documentaries shot on site in August 2022.

In the collective imagination, Iraq is a synonymous of desert, oil wells, war and terrorism. The reality, however, is much more complex: stability and security problems are certainly not lacking, especially after the recent war against the Islamic State and the pandemic, which has also affected this country, as well as the continuous interference from neighboring countries. There is a part of Iraq, however, which for some years has enjoyed a certain stability and level of security unthinkable in this geographical area, where nature is much more luxuriant than one might imagine: mountains, woods and waterfalls practically everywhere! The cultural and religious richness of this autonomous region is also notable: Chaldean Christians, Muslim dervishes, the archaic cult of the Yazidis, just to mention a few aspects. Here too, however, there is no shortage of touching testimonies of the bloody past, not even so remote, such as the genocide suffered by the Kurds during Saddam Hussein's regime, and the victims of recent attacks. So I went in August 2022 to personally verify the real situation in that area, finding it, in some ways, even much improved compared to the first time I set foot in this region, in March 2017. I'm talking about Iraqi Kurdistan: a travel story that will not leave you indifferent!
