It's like those awful experiments they did on monkeys in the 1960's - Gypsy is the wire mom with the milk, but Rudy is the cloth mom for comfort and nurturing.

Ah, yes, the Harlow experiments. Extremely cruel and they had no purpose. There was never one bit of data collected from those that was of any use. Some humans have the capacity for unthinkable evil.

Hollis Blinn in my(utterly non expert) opinion, there was a _little_ to be gained from Harlow’s early experiments. There was a not-insignificant portion of human parents who believed that newborns could be “spoiled” and should always be left to “cry it out”. He demonstrated the importance of reliable comfort for a baby’s mental health. However ..... he really seemed to lose his mind by the end. He was deeply depressed and obsessed with creating depression in his subjects so he could discover its roots. He just started being more and more cruel, determined to create a reaction in the monkeys that would mirror his internal agony ... but he never could, so he just kept going. Mad bastard.

Harlows experiments were cruel but we learned the importance of nurturing to proper development. It may have taken years longer to notice the damage neglected children and babies who had grown up in orphanages in Romania.

Here's a name suggestion for Gypsy's baby boy -- Knippy. Kinda goes along with Knotty and Knitty. :-)

Right ¿ Aunt Rudy deserves so many potatoes, awesome selfless foster mom….rare to see gypsy waiting to get her baby back instead other way.

It was nice to see Gypsy get her baby. I agree that Rudy provides backup for Gypsy, but I have always felt conflicted about it. The newborns have to have the milk, and Gypsy has to forage so I understand it, but part of me wants the babies to have their mother more than Aunt Rudy. (Kaleb) ;)

Gypsy clearly wanted her baby back and Rudy turned her back on her when Gypsy signaled repeatedly that she wanted her baby back. That’s not the signs of a convenient babysitting arrangement. We have already seen one dead baby this season when Dorothy kidnapped her grandson repeatedly.

I beg to differ. The behavior was nothing, like Dorothy and Dorty. Gypsy was getting plenty of time and had not taken the baby, just as Arroz stated. They had a momentary show of appreciation with grooming and Gypsy took the baby right after. Rudy was not running snatch the baby away. She allowed her to go back to her Mother but only when Gypsy took a good hold as they were up a big height in a very tight area. This is what Rudy and Gypsy have always done and they work well together.

I agree with Mandy. Gypsy has not been a good mother to the last 4 babies. The Rudy-Gypsy arrangement has always been agreeable to both of them. Gypsy’s last baby, Kailey, always tried to be close to her mother but Gypsy wasn’t having it. She violently bit Kailey all of the time just for asking for milk. We thought she might lose 2 fingers that Gypsy bit on one occasion. Rudy has been a blessing to Kailey and her siblings before her.

CHRONIC HAPPINESS I thought the same way until last year. A very knowledgeable person who had worked with macaques pointed out that many times Gypsy signaled to Rudy that she wanted her baby back and Rudy flat out ignored her or refused her requests through her actions. Kailey eventually developed a bond with Rudy but she fought desperately at times to get away and return to her mother. Usually Rudy would just pick her up and carry her away from Gypsy unless it was time for Kailey to eat. I don’t think Gypsy is a good mother but I also think Rudy takes advantage of her low ranking to take her babies from her whenever she feels like it. She definitely wanted her baby back from Rudy in this video and stuck close by until Rudy relented and allowed Gypsy to have him. Then Gypsy took her baby and got away from Rudy as quickly as possible almost as if she was afraid Rudy would change her mind.

Gypsy would be lost without Rudy though as would her babies. 💞💞

I’ve often wondered if Gypsy hands off her baby to Rudy or Rudy pulls rank and takes the kid? She was hanging around Gypsy, as soon as the kid was born and she seemed reluctant to hand back other babies of Gypsy’s, despite repeated signals from Gypsy.

I think she's always pulled rank but knows the babies have to be fed so she let Gipsy feed them. Rudy is a good monkey and good to babies but she's not the kind babysitter jumping in when Gipsy need her. Rudy takes them. Gypsy knows it's going to be a while before she get them back so she do the best of the situation, foraging. We've seen this behaviour before, with Knotty if I don't remember it wrong. This is my opinion and I had it since Gypsy had Knotty. 🤓🏴‍☠️🇸🇪

I think she does exert her ranking. My opinion is that Gypsy has learned that they will be taken from her so in turn separates herself as time goes by. The babysitting may be forced on her.

We have to remember that Gypsy was not a good mother to her other babies. Kailey begged Gypsy to no end to be fed. She bit Kailey so violently one time that two of her fingers were badly injured. Gypsy would bite her just for asking for milk. Kailey was always hungry and left looking for cuddles that Gypsy was not willing to give. Rudy was a blessing to Gypsy’s last 4 babies. And Kailey being accepted as one of Grandee’s girls improved her life tremendously.

CHRONIC HAPPINESS But as another poster pointed out, Rudy takes the babies as soon as they’re born. I feel Gypsy doesn’t get to properly bond with them when they are infants. She’ gets to be the feeder only while Rudy gets all the snuggles and hands the baby back to Gypsy when she’s tired of it.

Ya the baby is doing fine, Gypsy hands the baby over when she comes out to the road, this baby would not be alive if not. She is not so bad of a mom.

I vote Rudy mother of the year! I just wish Rudy could lactate. Rudy is quite a bit higher ranking than Gypsy I do believe.

Yes she is Ridgy's daughter also Ruby Vivy and Fify are also Ridgy's girls..they all adored our lil Kailey and have helped raise all of Gypsy's kids although in this instance I think Gypsy's waiting to get her baby back..wonders will never cease..its a crying shame Rudy is sterilised what a super mom she would have been..but she is a great surrogate now I just hope she didn't witness Kaileys death..🇬🇧💞🙈🙉🐵🐒👏👏🙏🙏👍👍

Rudy being higher ranking appears to be keeping the baby longer than Gypsy wanted. So no at this point Rudy's interference is hampering the babies time with mom.

@@im2cutesosueme121 yes I agree..i love Rudy..she has looked after all of Gypsy's kids and had a special bond with our lil Kailey and I feel if Kailey had been around now Rudy wouldn't be so insistent on looking after this little one.. it is unusual as Gypsy usually loses interest a few months down the rd not this early as baby needs so much milk but as you say I think Rudy being so much higher in ranking than Gypsy is she couldn't really say no to her..Gypsy's made it clear she wanted her boy back.. it will be an interesting one to watch as Rudy only usually picks up the pieces after Gypsy's lost interest or patience...🇬🇧💞👍🙏👏🐒🐵🙉🙈🙊

But watch Gypsy she’s aching to mother her own baby! I truly think in Gypsy’s position she is not given a choice bond and take care of her own babies. I have watched Gypsy a bit closer I love watching this I’m obsessed! I feel so bad. I look back with every baby... she’s tried and yearned to care for her babies they have been forcefully babysat since day ☝️. Knitty and kaylee fought. To be with mommy harder than the aunties could subdue them. Gypsy has always been close watching he babies from afar... with that longing look. She never got a chance to learn proper grooming and tolerate and enjoy feeding and snuggles. Auntie want the love and snuggles she is drop by feeder to them. She is starting to become braver and being more insistent on having them back. Rudy has put up a fight but she does give them back at some point. I have mis judged her... she is and wants to be a good mama. Due to her position Rudy can and does pray on her to soothe Rudy’s very strong motherly instincts sometimes putting others babies above her own

@Angela Holsapple I truly believe people who “hate” or comment that they want to hurt monkeys because they don’t like how they parent (comparing them to humans) are seriously mentally ill. Comparing monkey behavior to human behavior is insanity and completely unfair. Same goes for people who argue that monkeys are “safer” raised by humans because other monkeys are so rough. You have to have some screws loose to think this way.

@Angela Holsapple People do want to hate on her and I think it’s so wrong. Gypsy does love her babies. But also due to her rank, she has to forage more to even get full. So Rudy helping out could be ok if it were on Gypsy’s terms but unfortunately, it’s not.

@Erica Jacobs Well, I wouldn’t go as far as saying they’re insane. Anthropomorphism is so easy to take on especially when watching monkey’s, apes, etc. because they DO have many human characteristics. They are primates, just like us and we share 98% of the same DNA. But I agree that it’s not right to want to see a monkey hurt or killed just because they don’t like that monkey. It’s very wrong, in my opinion.

I believe these feeders have good intentions but damn it how hard can it be to pick up after yourself! This is not only an environmental disaster but a potential health problem for these macaques. I just don’t understand why they are so lazy about this.😔🤨

I don't think it's dumping gypsy is low ranking and has to either find food or wait and eat last some times there is nothing left so she goes out and forge while Rudy baby sit but sometimes Rudy takes the baby I have seen videos were Arroz said that Gypsy wants her baby but can't do anything because of her rank he also said she has a hard time with milk supply because she doesn't get enough food

Maybe we have to change our sight of Gypsy! Maybe it's Rudy who forces Gypsy in a way to give her babys to her. And she is smart enough to know that only Gypsy can feed them with milk. But maybe Gypsy and Rudy have an agreement which is more complex as we're thinking...

@@judithelpers4764 I agree because she continues to allow it with every kid maybe they have a arrangement Rudy can't have any babies so maybe she gets attached and just wants to keep them a little longer sometimes but Gypsy knows that she will get them back so she deals with it I have only seen a handful of times were Ruby would keep turning her back or go up a tree and Gypsy would just follow until Rudy give back the baby she loves them and babies are so cute

I was hoping Gipsey would hold on to her baby a bit more this time after poor kailey but Rudy is part of the problem too if she holds on to the baby rather than give it back. It’s a hard one to work out. Poor Rudy can’t have babies and gipsey was only too happy to hand hers over. And Rudy doesn’t want to give it back. Good move gipsey. 💞💞
