a bit of a trick to start up fast with cargo: take a steelmill with coal close to it, connect the coal, then a steelmill with iron close to it, connect the iron, then run a railroad between the two steelmills, there will soon be a good demand for coal to one and iron to the other... a train that's fully loaded in both directions... you can then add steelmills, and between each steelmill you'll get a 'secondary' line that gives you serious traffic... once you set up supply of steel you can use the secondary line also for steel ... with 6 steelmills active you can have coal that gets first sent to steelmill 1, travels 5 times to steelmill 6, makes steel and then travels back up to steelmill1 where it finds a connection to a machine factory... each trip generates lots of money because it happens on trains that are full both ways... this system also scales up fine, every industry delivers to every other, cities get their supply from every factory evenly using this method...

Fun episode, I'm a sucker for oversize stations especially since I've been on a US theme kick. Double slips do have a radius limit compared to IRL is quite generous but i'm never afraid to take advantage of them, easy way to add a bit of detail.

That was one helluva long episode :D btw I dont think you could go bankrupt with the money you have. This game is not that hard. I play it all the time on hard difficulty (not very hard) and when you get your first train money just goes up and I dont have to do anything and of course more trains more money and after like 2-3 hours in game so much money is coming in that I can even have passenger trains in red figures, because cargo transportation makes enough money to cover it.

Trust me...you can. It's actually easier in tpf2 to go bankrupt with any money than it was in tpf1...

Love the series so far. I just wanted to comment that you can use “.” and “,” before you draw the roads/tracks to get the desired height

You didn't see me do that with the station?

@@bballjo I did see that. But when you need to draw a bridge or tunnel. You can do the same and it allows you a nice starting point for roads/tracks

Awesome! Any good pointers for why the lines complain about "cannot connect all stations" when having alternate stations? Usually moving the primary terminal for the line solves this, but there must be some combination to why it complains in the first place?

It just means that there is at least 1 missing connection between stations, that can be because of signals or simple rail connections...

For the placement of the cargo station above the high speed track, could you have drawn the high speed track for the tunnel area as one piece and then used 'm' and 'n' to add a dip in the track, without losing speed, to allow a lower placement of the cargo station?

the reason why it didnt wnt to get the slip switches is the angle it crosses is to big

You only need 1 Quarry to fully suply Construction materials plant, because it's 1:1 conversion and Quarry produces 400 Stone. Do you think it'd be better to start building this kind of hub in vanilla from single/double track station that gives you the center and then build out on both sides?

  • @bballjo

First off: crap! Forgot it was 1:1...oh well, gotta find another conmat plant in 2 episodes;) but since it's a hub, that should be fine. From what I remember, the stations are not centered in either dimension...and I knew what about I wanted, and didn't want the extra 80 clicks...

Could the reason you couldn't place slipswitches be that the angle between the two crossing tracks was too big?

  • @bballjo

The only time I haven't been able to place them was if the angle was too extreme...narrow angles always worked, I wonder if the tracks are actually bent...
