Oddly back in Splatoon 2 the team that had the most votes usually lost. I think it was because so many more people were involved in the team you had a wide range of skill levels so well you may have had a lot of wins you usually also had a lot of losses

@@jonservo iirc there's also an unpredictable aspect of the least popular team would always have representation of their best players participating every match, but for the more popular team, there's the chance that their best players aren't represented. Under that idea, the 3 team split is a good way to tackle the issue assuming that the split is somewhat 33%. I think one team having more than the majority throws a wrench in that design tho lmao

With high votes comes a LOT of mirror matches. Often times in S2 the more popular team lost for that very reason, since mirror matches don't give any clout

My friend and I had full win streaks. Won multiple tricolors (as limited as they were). And Grub still had no points... It's okay. Frye will win one day.

@@vDREEGONv So, Splatfest is scored accordingly: Team with most votes - 10pts Team with most conch shells earned - 10 pts Team with most clout in Splatfest Open - 15 pts Team with most clout in Splatfest Pro - 10 pts. Team Fun got most conch shells and most clout in Splatfest Pro, bringing their total to 20 pts. Team Gear got most votes (56% I think) and most clout in Splatfest Open, bring their total to 25 pts.

The thing that pissed me off the most is that I only got into 1 tricolor battle and quest for it over 200 times 😑

So apparently, the theme of the Splatfest was originally going to be "What would you take on a camping trip?" I feel like that should've been kept because the "deserted island" thing encouraged a really unbalanced vote. Something they need to work on in the future. Better balanced theming. Btw, this is coming from a Team Gear member. GGs everyone.

From what I’ve heard it’s not that the theme was supposed to be a camping trip, but that the culture in Japan this is a hypothetical question that makes it more like a “camping” trip. It’s not exactly being stranded on an island trying to survive, and more like you’re dropped off for a day, and you know they are coming back to get you the next day, so you have to find a way to bide your time.

Seems the Tricolor problem was there was really waaaay too many Gear players. As long as Grub found Fun and vice versa, there was a smorgasbord of Gear players to complete the trifecta. And that left out a hefty chunk of other Gear teammates dying of thirst for an exclusive mode of which some have never even tried before. =/

Dude, believe me, I was surprised gear won and I was ON team gear. We barely had the chance to play against other teams in the second half, I would say more than half of our matches were against ourselves,and when we queued for tri we didn’t get it once. Nintendo’s matchmaking system baffles me.

Being on team Gear, I literally only got 1 tri-color battle out of 2 hours straight of trying to que for it. Plus for some weird reason there were tons of matches against my own team post half time. To say that Tri-color, if not splatfest in general needs massive amounts of balancing, is frankly an understatement. From the themes, to tricolor entirely, to match making, connection issues, ect. It's still fun don't get me wrong, but clearly there's tons of work to be done. And it probably will be worked on heavily through these first few splatfest, as the game is BARELY a month old and this is the first official splatfest. Tho I am in fear of how much of a trick or a treat the Halloween Splatfest could be, lel.

You got a bunch of mirror matches because Gear was the overwhelming popular team, same as any other Splatfest. There just aren't enough opponents to go around. Also being on Gear, I too got only 1 Tricolor match. -_- I guess being on the popular team ALSO means a lower chance of getting into Tricolor, since the demand is high but the slots are low... so any individual Gearhead would be way less likely than any individual Grub or Fun to get into any given Tricolor battle. In short, LAME!

So THIS is what Tricolor turf battles look like on the "attacking" side. I played for 5 hours straight yesterday and didn't get a single Tricolor battle...

Problems with the splatfest nintendo needs to fix 1. People disconnecting on a bonus match to prevent the enemy team from winning it 2. Choosing tri color should always get u to play tri color instead of being turf war most of the time. This game mode is only available during the second half 3. Open vs pro needs to actually divide pros & newcomers so newcomers don't get their ass whoop by pros. Divide them by rank or level 4. I think nintendo shouldn't choose a theme thats "Very" logical for voters to choose a team. At least try to make it a tough choice to choose 5. Unbalanced amount of snails u get. Doesn't matter if u won or not 6. Error error error. That's all I need to say 7. Even tho team gear has the largest squad, many players on team fun & grub still had several ditto matches. That's unfair considering their squad is smaller.

as a part of team fun I did not have even 1 ditto match so maybe I'm lucky. also the team with the most people in it should always be in the defense pos in tricolor. If it doesn't go that way it's far too difficult to have good matchmaking in the ewtreme case (like this one)

That last one is very interesting considering team gear was also queued against themselves. Like a lot. I’ve seen other people on team gear say this, and I experienced it with my team. We seemed to only be pulling gear matches for a while.

@@2011blueman no no, I believe tri-color should be enhanced WITH a special stage. Why make them mutually exclusive? If tri-color battles occured on a splatfest-exclusive special stage that would just make the mode cooler and have people want to play it more. I had thought that’s what they were going for originally but apparently not.

If I was in this Splatfest, I'd totally join team Grub and would have 0 regrets if we lost because thematically, team Grub is just the best ofc But something that was truly sour is how there's strict disconnect penalties WHEN THE SERVER THEMSELVES ARE NOT STABLE. Some people complained of losing 10x battles, even 100X ones, from disconnect in their team. How about for this Splatfest, just null the match entirely instead??

About the servers, they only exist for matchmaking. Everything that is done within a match is handled with a peer-to-peer connection.

The games are P2P, not server based, the stability problems are because of people playing on weak internet connections and wifi. If you're not using the ethernet adapter you're part of the problem.

@@2011blueman ok yes, using Ethernet will lower your chances of dcs but the bigger problem is the netcode itself. Where other games would just pause when you have an unstable connection to sync, Splatoon just kicks you from the game. Not to mention the fact that it really should have dedicated servers anyway. While yes, you can be part of the problem it should be up to nintendo to fix it

If you ask me, I'd say team gear lost. With how many people were on team gear, the matchmaking was awful, you never got tricolor battles, and it was just a generally worse experience overall.

Tricolor's supposed to be an important part of not just the fun, but the competition as well. That there were too few Tricolors to give individual players on large teams sufficient experience tainted the results.

I think nintendo made the idol designs (except for big boi) a bit weird. their cool but also a bit revealing i guess you could say. i men shive rliterally just has bandages around her chest with a see through peice above it. the main rason shiver was because of those GOSH DARN SIMPS!

Splatfest is weird when you win a lot of battle the team lose, when you lose a lot of battle the team win.... at least for my experience

Tricolor may need to have the most popular team at the center. Cause gear being on the side made it really hard to find matches. I got a total of 2 after playing a lot.

Seeing Team Grub the team I was on cause I gotta eat get nothing in these results I was like huh! then a few seconds after I said "let me get my Sea Snails to start making my competitive gear load out" that the only reason I take part in these Splatfests.

I hope further splatfests don't have themes where one choice would be objectively the best choice in an actual situation. If you're ever on a deserted island of course you would want gear to acquire food and have fun. I picked grub because I think everyone just hates or overlooks Frye and also because I'm a big foodie. I think I'm just going to always pick Frye because unless the splatfest option for her is something people would pick, I know lots of people just hate Frye and are so hype over shiver and big man.

@@ScorpionZX6 I'm a new player and can get a few kills with the reef lux main weapon. I only used missile spam if the other team had way higher ranked players than me and would instantly kill me. Might as well ink to be usefull. Ideally I would be using the tri-stringer but unfortunately my aim is not that good yet and with the reef lux you can ink better.

@@LittleSparklingStars yeah that's fair, and you definitely have more options with REEF-LUX since you can missile, ink turf, get into _certain_ close quarter fights as well as snipe if you've got the aim, tristringer definitely seems more focused on long range support/kills particularly with the bombs, personally it doesn't do much for me as an on and off charger main, but I can see why you like it

the fact that we didn't get any points makes made me recoil in embarrassment when i read the results

Hey, Shiver won twice because both times she had the obvious best answer. I doubt she'll win if she gets an answer that isn't the obvious choice.

Glad there was _some_ people on team grub shredding it out there, I got crushed by Gear and Fun most of the splatfest. Thankfully started winning more by the end of the fest, but man, I'm still recovering from all the L's.

I think we need a video on how exactly the tricolor matches work. I read the rules and played about four of them but I'm still not all together clear on everything, particularly on how they decide who gets to play in them. Is it a first come first serve sort of thing or does how you play actually affect whether you're chosen or not Also on a side note: team gear rules lol

I hate that we can't recon Tricolor, not just to learn the layout but also the spawn areas, the signal location and timer behavior and where the signal sprinklers end up and how they act. And the site says the middle team is determined by overall clout at half time, but in which sense? Is it total clout points between Open and Pro, or do they average the proportions of Open and Pro? Similar with how they say who's leading when the main event starts: votes, Conch Shells or both? And the results dialogue implies ALL Conch Shells go toward that category's points, but the category's name is "Sneak Peek", the name of the preliminary part of the Splatfest. So do only Conch Shells earned then count? This isn't the sort of chaos I want from Splatoon 3. Do you get why I went Team Order?

Im not even mad that I lost, im mad that grub literally got nothing at all ;w;

Nintendo introduced such a fun new gimmick and made it happen less often because people were complaining about how unfair it was. I was able to play ~5 tricolor battles in the whole event and won every single one. No one was made happier by this change as the middle team is still at a huge disadvantage and we all get to play less of this fun new mode :(

It's a big shame that Tricolor got such an utterly disastrous first impression thanks to the map for it during the World Premiere being Sturgeon Shipyard, which was absolutely not ideal for a three-way turf war. If it hadn't gained the reputation of "auto death sentence to the defending team" thanks to the World Premiere, maybe people would've been more willing to try it out and not immediately scream for it to be rebalanced, but as of now, we have the traumatized Team Scissors to thank for the temporarily reduced Tricolor rate. In fact, Hammerhead Bridge, the Tricolor map for this Splatfest, is actually a lot more balanced for the defenders than Sturgeon Shipyard, but no one believes it because they are simply traumatized by the Team Scissors experience and are unwilling to just try it once. I personally believe that Tricolor is hard, but doable, but after such a complete shitshow for its first demonstration, it's going to take a lot to convince others that they won't die just because they're defending in Tricolor.

I'm gonna be honest, even though I was on team gear I really didn't think our team would win. I was losing almost every game I get in except for a few games where I got some good games. So really all I have to say is GG, I was really thinking Grub would take first.

As someone who was on team gear, i kinda have to agree that this was rigged. Almost all of my games were mirror matches against team gear and i only got 2 tricolor battles. I feel like if you want to play tricolor, you should always get a 100% chance to play tricolor. And if people dont want to play tricolor, thats what open and pro is for.

@Skibbity Bop i played the entire time my guy 😭 i was mostly calling with my friends whenever i played, so i didn't really notice the exact time whenever i got a shell; it just would've been nice if they told us about festival shells and their importance to the splatfest votes prior is what i mean.

I won a 333x and a 100x with max synergy I'm completely in awe at how this could happen

squiffer without mpu did take a while to get used to, but its still one of my favorites. also using bubbler on the ultra signal was kind of broken

Aerial charging is still goated tho. It's the only charger I like using

I was on team fun and I lost like 10-15% of battles. But the problem is I rarely saw team grub and I was taking winning streaks of team gear. I also rarely played tri-color turf wars, which I assume a lot of people don’t get to play either

yeah. its kinda sad how many noobies are in turf war. they constantly spam roller, splatana, and any slosher type. it makes it so unfair when you lose like 20% to like 60%

That "No!....I'm alive okay." Was me like 72% of the time I played Splatfest. Still lost 75% of my matches. But only because I was the best person on most of my teams, and I'm not good at this game. 😂

Man, heckin’ RIP to Team Grub. Y’all got done dirty. As a Team Funner I gotta say that the sheer abundance of Gearfolk, alongside the Tricolor frequency nerf, really screwed over Grub. Heck, you’re the first Splatuber I’ve seen on here NOT on Gear. Gotta appreciate sticking with the underdogs, especially with those insane 60% odds against both our teams. I think that most people interpreted the question as “what SHOULD you bring to a deserted island” (which is obviously tools so Gear), instead of “what WOULD you bring to a deserted island,” hence the sheer abundance of Geargrinders. I don’t think enough people realized how maddening it would be to live such a utilitarian life devoid of quality food and entertainment, especially considering they likely indulged in both during this Splatfest. Doesn’t change that it was a great first theme though, interesting question and nice colors! I’m hyped to see what October’s got in store for us!

as someone on team fun, I do genuinally think that the splatfests are still a bit unfair, tricolours are still just stupid, and smth I didnt notice in the testfire is that for some reason open battles are worth more than pro battles, even though they probably shouldnt be lol.

@@roy43222 pro doesnt give clout for turf inked, only for winning, and it also doesnt have tricolours (so it exclusively rewards making plays that win the game, instead of also rewarding just farming paint even if it doesnt help you at all) and it doesnt have tricolours (which are just overall really unfair)

This man got into more tricolor matches than many of us saw all combined. I got 1 out of 20 matches I could do on Saturday thru Sunday.

I’m just so glad to see another streamer on team grub, it feels so unfair that we lost with absolutely nothing- it felt like we had no support but i’m glad we did. Still hurts to have lost but. Will sub for the grub

yeah we were. i think your team won due to the fllowing reasons: shiver simps / stans and the over use of rollers, sloshers, etc

As a person who was on team fun and team scissors, I felt that hammerhead was a significantly worse map for tricolour, as the defending team had the low ground on the map and you could only get in the enemy spawn through one area

i didnt really play tricolor but i saw some footage and i can agree

Since I was on team gear, practically all of my games mostly consisted of me fighting against team gear. Half time didn't help since I only got to play 2 or 3 matches of tricolour and I never got to see it again.

If everyone in team grub would have played like you then the team would have had better chances, but sadly 8/10 matches I had against team grub were easy wins. Either they weren't playing with there teammates or had bad weap combos. 2/10 times they stomped us logicaly~ '- '

idk how but i can relate. I LITERALLY USED A SPLATERSHOT THE WHOLE TIME AND GOT WRECKEC BY STUPID ROLLERS AND SLOSHERS SPAM BEHAVIOR

Won most of my matches too and I'm surprised we were so far behind regardless lol. Oh well, GG to everyone.

As someone *On* team gear, there were so many Pixel Painters just staying back and inking everything at base. Like I had Three matches in a row where we lost cause the other teams pushed up to our base and we had no ink at base to push back. They were using aerosprays too so I don't know what to tell you. I was still seeing them in Ruler Ranks too. Super frustrating.

I only got into 4 tricolors, I wanted to be attacking so much because of being scissors last time and one of those a team fun person disconnected right at the start 😭 anyways I was on team gear and I was shocked seeing more than 50% of the player base on my team

I only had 2 10x battles and 2 tricolor but won all of them for gear, and almost every team grub I faced were pushovers, team fun actually put up resistance though, but I think what won it for gear was the popularity vote, more players on gear means more clout. Sadly I think most of grub were newbies

More players does not equal more clout, people keep misunderstanding this, it is an average, not cumulative total. Team gear had nearly 60% of all votes, so if that were true it would be physically impossible for them not to have won every single category lol.

Not even DUDE’s presence was enough to lead team grub to victory… At this point, I’m now convinced that everyone who picks Big Man’s team are always going to be leading with the popular votes, and everyone who picks Shiver’s side will kick both Frye, and Big Man’s asses for every tri-color turf war this point onwards XD

Going vs gear was by far the least enjoyment I've ever gotten out of this game. Some of the most sweaty, if not outright toxic players I've ever faced.

While i cant say much about the shell stuff it should be noted that the majority of Gear didnt throw, fun won out against gear in the 2nd half by a point percentage

I'll tell you what was rigged: the chance of tri-color battles happening.

What makes me sad is that I only fought team grub once during this splatfest (I was team fun) And I only got into one tricolor battle in which I got disconnect 💀

For the splatfest world premiere, I chose what I thought was most popular ,AKA BIG Man, and lost. The team that won that day was the one I wanted to go with my gut, AKA Shiver. This splatfest, I went with my gut, AKA Frye, and still lost. This really shows the power of Shiver fans.

To be fair this splatfest theme wasn't very good. There's actually logic behind the choice besides pick what you like which led more people to pick gear. It led to it being more of a multiple choice question rather than an opinion one which then led to gears overwhelming popularity. If it was for camping instead of being stranded the votes probably would have been more even because the danger is removed.

Team Gear be like: "We won because we were logical" 🤓

I mean if we’re speaking logically. Frye is kinda the least fav idol so not many would choose her compared to the other two. And team fun kinda got a target painted on their back after the mid results. Team gear is kinda in the middle of both of them. That’s just what I think

The only thing that really bugged me that as a team gear member I barely got any tri color matches. I literally queued up for it over 6 hours and got only ONE SINGLE tri color match.

Getting tri-color turf war this many times is more impressive to me than any of the shots hit /lh

NAH FR I refuse to believe Team Gear won 😭 I wouldn’t have cared if Team Fun won because I love Big Man but Shiver winning two in a row just doesn’t sit right with me and I don’t know why

I got only two Tri-Color games and three errors, that could not found enough players.

I queued for tri color battles over 50 times this splatfest and didn't get a single one, meanwhile dude was getting so many. I feel like the odds of getting put into one was set to 0% but only for me.

I think the the team with the least votes, and/or more losses, has much higher odds of getting into tricolor matches.

On god it was, I was only able to get into 1 tri color match. If they devs didn’t hold me back the #TeamGearSweep would’ve been even bigger 💪

Team Rock and Gear here, I got three tricolor battles, one i won, one team grub won and one my teammate disconnected early so idk what that was about. I feel like after they fix the connection issues, they should balance splatfest and tricolor because either me or another player be disconnecting every other match. I also love the fact that you played squiffer a lot, I'm currently a splatterscope main and played a lot of it during splatfest

I was on team gear and really hoped we would get second place. The reason I picked gear was cause you could kinda do both options. I was shocked team grub didn’t actually win since 90 percent of the time, they totally crushed my team. But, I hope Frye will be in eventually. Gg to anyone who played.

The splatfest wasn't rigged team grub just didn't too well. Every time i encountered team grub it was basically a free win

As someone on Team Fun, my favourite thing was watching Team Gear and Team Grub splat each other in tri-colour battles. Like, guys, you're supposed to work together! Meant an easy couple of wins for us though haha.

as a team gear player i can say that 90% of my games were against my own team and the other 10% was losing to team grub

The splatfest was so laggy so many communication errors “not enough people playing” errors and I got not one tri color battle and neither did my friend hope they fix the next one!!!!

I was so frustrated by it by day 2 because I kept getting paired with lower rank people and going again 5-win streak gear people so there never was a freaking chance of winning. I lost 10 matches in a row now matter how hard I tried and I KNOW it was the splatfest because I went back after it was over and won multiple battles in a row just regular old turf war

I also won around 70% of my games (and they were all against team gear for some reason) yet we still lose by this much

The clip at the end where you sniped 3 people was insane

I believe we probably did have a chance at getting some points, but most of us didn't get the opportunity to, from what I've heard... I only played at least 4 tri color battles (without the early dcs) and barely had any 10x battles o_o
