I just came here to thank you for my favorite solo strings library. I currently use this library alongside Bell's solo violin to cook all my chamber writings. The perfect balance is achieved here, not too much ram is used, and the resulted sound is stunning!

After watching walkthroughs of solo string libraries I actually bought some. I'll share my comparison here: Spitfire Solo Strings, VSL Synchronized Solo Strings, Cremona Quartett. Most important for me is legato, since shorts usually sound good anyway. Making a string melody sound well, that is the tough job with string libraries, solo strings in particular. 1.) VSL is a beast, it the most powerful, but you need to learn to program, plus I find the constant vibrato (i.e. lack of real vib control) in VSL Solo Strings a bit annoying. It makes things much more difficult than they should be. VSL appears to be an old library. Apart from that... still great library. 2.) Cremona Quartet: nice. Vibrato rate and frequency can be adjusted, legato sounds good, very well sampled. Quite realistic sound with much less programming effort. But: less articulation options than VSL of course. 3.) Spitfire Solo Strings: Sorry, the legato patches are simply abysmal. Try to play a run or a slightly moderate passage. Legato transitions are far from seamless, very unnatural, you can hear how notes are "glued together" (via legato transitions or script?). Try to play a run without vibrato (like most string players would actually do), you are left with sound fragments only, completely unusable. Vibrato control is ugly, too. You can hear very clearly the morphing between 2 (is it even more?) different layers. And the two layers appear to have been recorded on seperate sessions (or string player / instrument), they sound nothing alike. It is not quite different to BBCSO String leader, not a real improvement.

Love Solo Strings - the BEST!!! But... It’s hard to change the articulation in a Key Map switch - for each instrument with some different positions. you get used to one layout, switch to another and then you need to rebuild for memory.

I was asking about that Choir library they started doing some time ago. Unfortunately its quiet since. Legato patches are not even close to what "Tina Gua Viola" or Firelander Violin did. Transitions between notes are one of the hardest things to do if You want it to sound realistic. I am a fan of out of the box live play - everything but legato patches sound great. Price tag reflects amount of articulations done - its allot work after all.😶

Anyone else having problems with external hard drives over working when using spitfire? I’ve got a powerful iMac yet I still pull spitfire data from the external hard drive. In the Kontakt player, cpu stays at 0/1 whereas disk shoots to 100% straight away. Mostly with brass on Albion 3. Could it be my hard drive isn’t good enough?? It’s driving me crazy 😖

If your motherboard controller doesn't support USB 3.0 (625 MB/s) it only has 50 MB/s. HDD: internal (130-180MB/s) -> external usage with USB 2.0 (limit: 50MB/s) SSD: Internal (~220MB/s) -> external usage with USB 2.0 (limit: 50MB/s) Other slowing factors: Is your OS on a SSD? How big is your paging memory(temporary storage)? How much RAM do you use? Another thing to consider is the fragmentation of the HDD. Check it with a Defragmentation Software. Since you're using an iMac it could also be that your HDD is slower if the file system is "NTFS" (microsoft) instead of exFAT (useable by Mac). NTFS needs a licens, so there are only slow programms that let you use it, but never saw "fullspeed" on an external HDD with a Mac. Hope I could help.

The sounds themselves seem quite good - but in all of these demo's we never hear any really good music - (eg: Beethoven Quartets / Tippett Concerto for Double String Orchestra) Obviously this is because these would require a reasonable keyboard technique to input notes into a "DAW". So why aren't there versions of these liberies specifically made for Notation programs ie: Sibelius and Dorico where notes can be inputted in different ways ? Only in that way can real comparisons be made with real instrumental ensembles - instead of the endless usually poor John Wiliams imatations that flood KZread !

I’ve no doubt his will fall on deaf ears, however... I would love a tutorial video on how to mix tracks using solely spitfire samples. I find trying to level and pan tracks using spitfire plugins loses nuisances etc. It gets very muddy very quickly. I understand a large part is down to your ear for mixing though I think a tutorial would be incredibly helpful.

Although from a perfectionist point of view you do not wish to give the user the option of using glissando/pitch wheel, many of us are composers, and without this option the library is less valuable, - which is a pity, because it has so many good qualities.

I have exactly the same issue. I was NEVER made aware of this new release prior to purchasing old solo strings . I purchase old solo strings less than two weeks ago, just contacted tech support to politely explain my issue and response was: “Thank you for getting in touch. Unfortunately we are unable to offer a refund or exchange on this product. We did try our best to make our customers aware that the firesale would be prior to the new Solo Strings release, and that any purchases during this period would not be eligible for the crossgrade. If there is anything else that I can help with please don't hesitate to let me know.” I am subscribed to Spitfire KZread, and have watched every video blog of Chris Henderson and nowhere does this information tech support was a de clear to me to make educated purchase was available or clear. This is unacceptable business practice. Anybody else with same experience?
