SPIRITBOX "Secret Garden" Metal Vocalist / Vocal Coach reaction & Analysis

Ойын-сауық

New Spiritbox means new reaction video! I had no idea this song was a thing, but what a lovely and amazing surprise it was. The composition of this song may be some of their best. Courtney Laplante kills it as always with her commanding voice, and the rest of the band shines as well. Lets react to Spiritbox!

In a recent interview for Kerrang, Courtney said that she faced depression still at a very young age, and that all the songs on the album are a way that she can recover herself and get through. I haven't seen any comments about the song or the video. But like Blessed Be this song and video are filled with metaphores. The 4 women in the video represent Courtney and the Secret Garden maybe be her innocent side, and how we should focus in ourselves at the good sides not our demons. As she said in the interview, we have in Holy Roller and Circle with Me, Courtney talking to her demons

Beautifully said! I agree very much with your interpretation. It speaks to me about what I think is probably the most fundamental thing many of us have not yet achieved: To be grounded and accepting of one self. To really get to know yourself and have a set baselevel of self-reliant happiness in your "secret garden" before you head into the world relying on relationships due to lacking self worth. It is a broad and hard lesson to learn and I found it not easy to understand intuitively. But since I am starting to do so, I find that many songs, movies, stories and books try to get us there. It's just not something that is easily told in one lesson or one sentence. It is like it behaves with everything. It takes a while to get good at it, like with learning a new instument. Over enough time with enough "seeds" planted, your "secret garden" will blossom and in return give others fertile ground for growth like Spiritbox are with their music.

A tiny detail in the first chorus that I love - the top note on “I”, the first three times she hits it, she flips up to it at the start of the syllable. But the last time, she slides up to it, so you can hear that register switch mid-syllable and it sounds SO good.

Makes me happy to see that you noticed the bass is actually guitar. Mike is doing a Tosin-esque tapping/plucking part which kind of sounds like bass, but it's not. That's the benefit of a low F# tuning, good pick ups and some EQ, plenty of low end and clean too.

It seems to me that Spiritbox could potentially be a gateway for many listeners of rock/hard rock into the more hardcore subgenres. They are already getting heavy play on 2 different SiriusXM stations with different songs and while that is risky because the soft stuff may alienate the more hardcore-centric listeners and vice versa, it also basically doubles up their potential fanbase. I am excited to see where they go from here and damn sure excited to see them at Louder than Life in September.

Just a phenomenal song. Fuuuuuuuck man, I cannot wait for their album release in September. I've never been more excited for a release, haha. Also, I believe Constance is about her grandmother's battle with alzheimer's. This one seems more like, maybe a little bit of that, mixed with her battle with depression, and possibly some sort of past relationship? Idk, that's kind of what I'm getting.

Dude, your in-the-moment technique examples are great! Spiritbox is what I always wanted 90s bands like Linkin Park to evolve into; it feels like a natural extension of visceral heaviness and ear-wormy melodies. Also, would love for you to do a reaction to the *Delain* song "Burning Bridges." 🤘🏼

Somebody got it right on the first listen. That is the guitar doing the crazy runs not the bass.

I picked it up first listen as well. He's doing Tosin style tapping with that low end to make it sound like bass. Even more impressive is he did this on a 7 string.

If you can get a hold of spiritbox's constance reimagined video they performed.... I would love to see your reaction of it. I thought of you as soon as I watched it that you would lose your mind over the vocals.

You should listen to "Electric Cross". It's one of their earlier songs and has a similar sound guitar-wise.

Your reaction is out for a while, but I just saw it and I'd like to give my interpretation about the song, because it's been in my mind for quite a while... About the meaning, the lyrics give me a vibe like "finding a safe place" (literally or inside our minds, applies to both ideas of this concept), but the video has some complex layers and it's tough to have a solid answer... my guess is something like struggling while trying to take back the creativity, imagination and inspiration once you're damaged and sad, feeling empty, like a void (depression, maybe?)... that "ludic" state most likely can only be sparked by a more "naive" mind (and sometimes, there's even an effort to shut it down in that naive phase). It still can have some connections with the idea of a "safe place". If you ever see this comment, I'd really like to read your thoughts about this interpretation. Keep up the good work, you're amazing!
