A word of warning in tie downs with the Aprilia Tuareg 660. The handlebars must not be used to tie the bike down. It will ruin the VERY expensive "Fly by wire" throttle unit. It was never designed to be used as a lashing anchor. It also puts a bending force into the front wheel. Hundreds of owners have had to replace their front wheels for many other reasons but this is an avoidable one.

Nice one Marty. I've only taken a car across before (as per my Whiparound 3 The Apple Isle video) and wondered about the safety of bikes. I didn't notice you mentioning the cost of transporting a bike across, unless I wasn't paying attention. Was it expensive?

Yep, way out of my price range too :( . I can go a long way on $400 worth of fuel in the bike.
