Spiral Knights - Weapon Switching Guide + the control layout I use

Ойындар

If you're already familiar with switching and just want to see my controls and/or how I use them, scroll to the bottom of this description to see the controls, or watch the second half of the video to see them in action.
This one was way overdue. A fairly common question I get in-game is what my controls are, so now instead of a long-winded explanation I can just point to this video.
When I first started switching, I started by using mouse wheel 'prev wep' + 'next wep' controls. With the delay on those controls, as well as the awkwardness of having one finger dedicated to mouse wheel, I started experimenting with different layouts. Admittedly this is also quite an odd layout when compared to default controls, but past getting used to new key binds it's actually very easy to get the hang of. That, and it allows full-set switching which many layouts either lack or over-complicate.
As said in the video, the only drawbacks to this layout are its two requirements:
- This exact layout requires all 4 weapon slots unlocked and filled
- A mouse with 2 thumb buttons is required
Neither of these are likely an issue for an end-game knight that's interested in weapon switching, but they are worth noting. Also worth noting is a bug (in java I believe) that causes "Mouse 4" and "Mouse 5" to not work as intended. If your thumb buttons show as 'Page Up' and 'Page Down' or some other controls, you should be fine - otherwise you may need to rebind your mouse thumb-buttons to other buttons/keys.

I see how that could work, but using WASD movement *while* switching would be quite the thing to get used to. Particularly strafing left while switching to the wep on Q, or strafing right and switching to E.

Hi, what a great video. I decide to reorganization the layout after watching this. But my current mouse doesn't have a thumb button, so I'll get a new one. I'm not sure this problem is appropriate or not cuz maybe there is not much difference. What model of mouse do you use? Just for reference, thanks.

I use a Corsair Scimitar which is totally overkill for Spiral Knights, as I only use 2 of the side buttons for switching. The last mouse I used was a Logitech MX518, which is a good example of a common-style mouse that works perfectly for switching.

Is there any way to get that Button « switcher »? I also switch with my 2 thumb buttons but for slot 3-4 it’s a problem. Edit: is your modifier button a button that switch on a second mouse configuration with other keys Indes to your thumb button? If yes, how it doesn’t take any time to load?

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. Slot 1 and 4 are both set to a single thumb button (Page Up), and slots 2 and 3 are both set to the other thumb button (Page Down). The way a single thumb button can be bound to 2 weapons is because of the modifier key. If modifier key isn't held, then Page Up = Weapon 1, and Page Down = Weapon 2. If the modifier key *is* held, then Page Up = Weapon 4, and Page Down = Weapon 3. My modifier button is Right-Click, and is set to the in-game control called "Modifier", which is 7 up from the bottom-most control.

Have you ever used controller to weapon switch? And if so is it possible to do so?

  • @Pyrosparker

    @Pyrosparker

    3 жыл бұрын

I've done it in the past, but not for very long. I forget the details but I think I remember switching all four weapon slots being either impossible or at least extremely inconvenient. The number of controls you can press at the same time (assuming you hold the controller like a normal person) is far fewer than you get with keys + mouse, which is the main problem.

When setting a control, hold down your Modifier key and press Z. That control is now bound to Mod+Z. If you have Wep1 set as Z, and Wep4 set as Mod+Z, then the Z key now has 2 weapons bound to it, and you can choose which to switch to by holding Modifier or not.

*Can* you? Yes. *Should* you? No, for multiple reasons. To name a few: > It is forbidden in the Terms of Service. > You wouldn't be able to compensate for lag very easily. > Given that macros are pre-defined sets of actions, they are far less flexible in practice than switching by hand.

  • @lucasgenolini3767

The longest macro i'd recomend using would be weapon 1 key followed by weapon 2 key, so when u want to pull out your weapon 2 you just use the macro and when you want to single switch you only have to press 1 button instead of 2. You also keep 100% freedom over your actions compared to any longer macros.
