Spindle Spotlight #03 - Kromski Drop Spindle

In this Spindle Spotlight, I'm demonstrating how to start spinning, spinning as a top whorl, and spinning as a bottom whorl. This is a good starter spindle because it's large enough to spin singles and ply with.
Spindle Style Pros:
Easy to start
Portable
Huge variety of styles and makers
Easy to find/purchase
Spindle Style Cons:
Weight increases as cop builds
Coordinating spinning and drafting with a suspended spindle can be frustrating for new spinners
Dropping the spindle when a single breaks can also be frustrating (and can damage spindle)

How do you do a 3 ply on a spindle? Do you use a lazy Kate?

Either a lazy Kate or a plying ball. I personally like plying balls better because I feel like I have more twist control, and when I'm making the ball I can work out any twist issues in the singles (like those occasional over twisted spots).

I’m really enjoying your spindle survey. Thanks for focusing on them. I especially liked the video about the basque spindle. It was new to me. Got any more spindle surprises? harpingJanet

I always forget about plying balls. I think I need to write that down.
