Spindle Spinning Every Day for three months: a Compilation

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hello friends! Over the past couple of months I have been practising my spindle spinning skills. Every day for the months December, January and February I have been spinning yarn on either my in hand spindles, my drop spindle or my supported spindle. That was a lot of handspinning, I can tell you. And to gather all that spinning in one place, here is a compilation video of all three months. So grab a beverage, because this is a long one!
All questions I ask in this video you might want to answer: all fiber related questions are of course always welcome, as they will be used in upcoming Tour de Fleece vlogs.
Yes, that's right, this is a compilation. If you'd rather watch the individual videos, here is where you find these:
part 1: • 100 Days of Spindle Sp...
part 2: • I try the 100 Days of ...
part 3: • I try the 100 Days of ...
The #100dayspindlespinning challenge was hosted by @dreareneeknits over on Instagram, this was not my idea.
If you want to join in on the chaos, you can join the patreon via: / mijnwolden
You can also find me on Ravelry and Instagram as @MijnWolden
If you enjoy spinning, yarn, knitting, fiber arts or any other traditional craft and fiber shenanigans then this channel is right up your alley. Maybe you could hit that subscribe button?

I am in Australia and I have collected spindles from all over the world. Most of them have been sourced from Etsy. There are some very good spindle makers still selling spindles, sadly a lot less since the pandemic. I have had some custom made, which takes a while, but they have all been worth the wait. Have just found your channel and am absolutely loving it! I too have a collection of dinosaurs. No idea why, but I just like them and they make me smile. 😊 Hugs From Down Under 🤗

Hi Jente, blend a 50/50 mix of chiengora and wool. As long as the blend is equal or more on the wool amount, you will get very stable singles on both your wheels and spindles. The plied yarn will be wonderful. If your staple length of the chiengora is short, there is nothing wrong with cutting your wool locks down to 3 to 4 cm length so that they will blend better with the short chiengora. If you love combing wool (my favourite fibre prep), you might want to look for a second-hand 'hackle' for blending combed fibres. Cheers-Laura the Feral Spinner.

New spinner here & I agree, single ply yarn barf is the worst. I came home today to find my dogs had gotten hold of my very small ball of yarn that I'd taken off my Turkish spindle. Such a mess! I enjoy using a drop spindle so much and I can't wait to try other spindle types. Probably won't ever be able to afford a spinning wheel & I'm currently ok with that.

there are ways to make a diy spindle! I'm currently looking into those options as they're a bit more affordable. There's a pattern on ravelry with a simple woodworking spindle, and a few online that use old bicycle wheels!

Good luck with finding your spojo (Spinning mojo). Mine has apparently been on walkabout for over a year. I bought a kick spindle that I’ve literally spun on for one day and it so offended my body that it will be an art piece from now on. All of me hurt, severely, after a fairly brief session on it. I need to find a better chair for my regular spinning wheel. My other spinning wheel is out of commission until I get it replacement footman parts. My electric wheel just isn’t sparking my creativity. I am excited about but also a little frustrated by my cotton spinning on my book charkha. I am trying to make a T-shirt, quantity of yarn to be woven on my rigid kettle out of basic store-bought cotton balls. It’s a very rustic, looking cotton, not nearly as smooth as proper, spinning, preps, but that can actually be really beautiful. In some situations. I’ve spun about a dozen cotton balls and About one and a half bins full of yarn, that I will eventually need to ply, but where I sit and work has changed making it not conducive to use my brakes between tutoring to use the charkha. Even though it is Tour de fleece, I just can’t seem to motivate myself to spin. You’re doing far better than I. good luck retrieving your spojo. It has been absolutely delightful and inspiring, watching you spindle spin all that awesome goodness. I will say, that, even though I haven’t been spinning, I have been doing a great deal of weaving. I have assembled and warped and have begun to weave on a brand new spring 2 floor loom. I am 2/3 of the way done the project that is on my rigid head sort of, it’s been my first actual genuine weaving fail. I set up a double weave project, but the yarn can’t pass multiple strands of itself in the slots of the rigid Heddle. So I have effectively peeled off the second layer and I’m wrapping it around the second heddle as I weave through the first layer normally. It was a failure as of Sunday, but as of Monday night/wee hours of Tuesday morning it is almost 2/3 or so woven through the 4+ yard warp on the first layer, so I do have pretty strong weaving mojo.

@@MijnWolden I thought I would feel the same way. When I was in college, my professors could tell if I had spun for 10 minutes in the morning before class (and breakfast). But currently, my setup and my body have changed, so my prior spinning chair has started to hurt my body, which has started to hurt more with or without my normal chair. It is making it less fun and positive. However, I now have an eel 6.1 electric, and I can spin sitting tailor style on my bed and that's lovely.

love the spindle yarn, it's something I'm thinking of taking up (don't tell my partner...)! Also, those aren't crepes they're pannekoeks otherwise known as skinny pancakes to those of us with Dutch/Flemish heritage in the English speaking world. My Opa used to make them as a special treat and I make them whenever I need a delicious treat.

"Hi, it's January 9th. My Christmas tree is still standing, why isn't yours?" I can think of another KZreadr whose Christmas tree was still up well into February before she took it down. She has the partial excuse of being Russian and therefore her Christmas is about a week later than the western Christmas.
