I try the 100 Days of Spindle Spinning Challenge: January (Chaos Vlog)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hello friends! Andrea Mowry, @dreareneeknits has recently launched the #100daysofspindlespinningchallenge. A challenge? With spindle spinning? Count me in! So in today's rather chaotic vlog we will continue where we left off at the end of December last year. In today's video you will see if I was able to spin all the days of January... We spin some lovely naturally dyed floofs of the Flemish sheep and belgian Milksheep breed. And this all with drops spindles, clasped spindles and suported spindles! Are you also participating in the spindle spun shenanigans?
If you want to join in on the chaos, you can join the patreon via: / mijnwolden
You can also find me on Ravelry and Instagram as @MijnWolden
If you enjoy spinning, yarn, knitting, fiber arts or any other traditional craft and fiber shenanigans then this channel is right up your alley. Maybe you could hit that subscribe button?

Possible topics: talk about funnies that occur at your job. Of course no names. Talk about your metal music and the different genres you enjoy. Talk about your beginnings of what got you into spinning and the different breeds you have local. Talk about your adventures when your husband and you go to the lovely places and what you discover and learn.

I'm so glad you are still able to spin with your special spinning bowl. I find that breaking a piece of pottery that I’ve used and loved for a long time feels like losing a dear friend. Thanks for your information about the sheep breeds you are spinning. I think you are keeping alive everything and everyone from the past who valued and used the wool these sheep provide. I hope you are finding time in your busy season to enjoy some February spinning. harpingJanet

I know the challenge has ended but figured conversational topics can always come in handy… Food: foods specific to certain occasions in Flanders - examples: So many people doing e ‘gourmet’ for New Year’s eve. The ice cream lamb for First Communion celebrations. Etc… Music: specific for certain occasions, the weird and wonderful(?) world of Schlager music, which has surprisingly many things in common with country music if you take the lyrics into consideration… or: individual music preferences, how they clash with one’s image in other people’s minds (I’m a 54-year old metalhead whichever you’d never guess by the way I dress) Other hobbies besides fibre arts Gardening philosophy - and perhaps options for the windowsill What to do with scraps - food scraps, fabric scraps, odds and ends of yarn or fibre Thrifting -clothes, household items, etc - even ‘thrifting’ plants in the sense of gifting plants you’re tired of, making and gifting cuttings The trend of flowers bred for colour, size and length of the flowering cycle vs scent (a pet peeve of mine), mixing flowers, vegetables and herbs in a border in order to keep all the plants healthy, keeping food plants for aesthetic reasons, … goes back to gardening philosophy. Slow/mindful living - how spinning and/or crafting fits in there Quirks of Flanders Religious festivals and their history, perhaps applicable to Flanders/The Netherlands The culture of music festivals More information about heritage sheep/wool breeds Which fibre do you despise spinning? Future dream spin/knit “If I never had to work a day in my life I would…” Who you’d like to spend an hour/day with (historical figures famous people, dead or alive) “If you found 10/20/100 USD/Euro on the street and get to keep them, what would you do with that money?” Give a gift, or receive a gift, what would you prefer and why? Anything Chaos Goblin

This the first time that I have heard the amount of singles on your spindle as a 'bird's nest', I've always heard it called 'cop'. I have done several shawls, hats, and mittens with my spindle spun yarn. I'm currently working on 2 sweaters being made from my wheel spun (hand-spun) yarn. I will probably make a colour-work sweater with my spindle spun yarn in the future.

I am also doing the spindle challenge. I missed three days each in December and January. I am doing pygora goat fiber on a supported spindle. It's such a short staple it works well with the support spindle. As much as we look forward to your chaos videos weekly is a lot of work for one channel let alone two. Maybe monthly is easier so you don't burn out.

You have spun infinitely more with spindles in January than I have. Also in December. Your illness in early January makes me realise how lucky those of us in the tropics are - we just don't get battered by influenza viruses in winter to the extent that you do. (Yeah, we do get some mosquito borne stuff, particularly in the wet season and that's no fun, and the cyclones in the wet season aren't any fun, either but that's another story.) If you're looking for topics, I enjoy a good rant/discussion of a topic that catches your interest. As a "for instance", take a saying that has gained a certain amount of popularity, such as "people get the governments they deserve" (or "people get the governments they tolerate" - there's a variety of versions) and then shred it. Obviously, only do this if the topic interests you or gets you hot under the collar or whatever. Your chaos goblin chatter worked just fine.

@@MijnWolden: Choose your (least) favourite! I had a bit of a written rant on the topic in regard to a video that was about the parlous state of life for LGBTQ+ people in Russia. One of the comments in one thread was "people get the government they tolerate." I replied that that makes a lot of assumptions, like that there are actual fair and free elections that aren't gerrymandered, and that voters aren't suppressed. It assumes that there is an actual choice, not just the Shit Party and the Shit Lite Party. It assumes that the media are able and willing to give voters accurate information about the candidates and parties on offer. It assumes that the media aren't censored. All of that is just for starters. All too often I don't think voters actually have good choices and so I don't think that the citizens of a country can be blamed for the state it is in, given that there are so many things that make it difficult for citizens to get changes for the better.

I don't have the time to do a challenge like this bc I work full time and committed all my spare time to a different big project, but this series of yours makes me want to start spinning when that project is done. Your supported spindle also looks very cool, where did you get it? (I've been trying to find a European seller of supported spindles that are not completely out of budget and also actually in stock for a good while now..) Please take it easy in February!
