The fact that they both dreamed of going to space when they were young, only to end up in the New York sky with the stars in the background in order to save the city. I find it magnificent. Yes the story of the game is very "basic" but I was very emotionally involved in it. Very good stand alone!

Finally someone can appreciate the emotion aspect! I’m about to replay the Miles game soon and have already done it 4 times but I remember how beautiful it was. People always act like a basic story (in any media) is bad but it can be respected if the actors truly give it their all which they’ve done! And of course the devs/animators deserve all respect in the world for the character expressions.

At best these emotions were forced and at worst, they were unearned because Phin is such a terribly written character whom the writers are forcing you to sympathise with despite the fact that she is a mass murdering maniac who had no reason to become one in the first place. She attacks a rally led by Rio for unbelievable reasons, she hypocritically accuses Miles for lying when she is even more guilty of keeping secrets and goes around on a murdering spree when Miles chases her around the city.

@@captainmarvelwilson508 I definitely agree with Phin being poorly written (although that’s because of it’s short length), but people can never praise things they do like about media anymore. If a movie, game, show, etc is bad, then the entire thing is to people. Miles still had plenty of good stuff to like about it. But I certainly agree that Phin doesn’t deserve respect but the voice actors were still amazing to me and made the story emotional still. Miles and Phin had a beautiful friendship and Miles honestly seemed like the type to forgive her if she had lived, so I think if they had further explored on that before her turn then the overall story would’ve been better received. I’m definitely not defending her actions though.

I feel like Miles isn’t getting enough love. Phin is one of my favorite comic villains now, but he had some great moments. Him saying “it’s ok” after she apologizes. It always gives me the feels. Him saying “I can’t” when he realizes he has to kill her to save Harlem. What a great Spider-man.

I noticed the main difference between doc ock and the tinkerer was that octavios stayed evil whereas Phin actually saved people in her final moments

Another difference is that Ock wanted to save lives and his “evil” was brought on by the implant literally messing with his mind and Osborn ruining his work (which would’ve saved his life and others). Also Octavius would’ve cured the people as well if Osborn had admitted what he did was wrong too.

Edit: sorry for the long text For me tinker was one of the most relatable characters, she gets drowned by her brother's death along with trauma and anger that came with it. While people might not like to hear it or admit it, phin was in deep depression and had trauma. She saved those people and miles because miles had family, while she saw herself as alone. She didn't want anyone to go through what she did when she lost her brother, and literally did for miles what no one was able to do for her. Phin told miles it was okay to let go, which wasn't just one meaning, she also meant it was okay to let her go and to keep living on. Phin saw miles family knowing he wasn't alone, while she believed she was and seemed almost happy to die like that's what she wanted

Trauma brain runs on predictability not logic, not only that she probably didn't tell him because a part of her plan was her dying. Phin was in so much pain the only way out of it was death. She isn't hypocritical she's in pain and she couldn't see past that pain and in the end still couldn't, she let her self die believing she had no one and was alone. Do not make blow off mental illness for something so single minded and actually pay attention to her story with a little bit of empathy. Even if you don't like her you have to have empathy for those with trauma and mental illness, if you don't then clearly you don't know what it feels like to lose something or to be hurt so bad that it's equal to physical pain. You don't like her because you see her a villain not a person in need of help. She was angry with miles because that was all she was capable of feeling pain and anger

Emotional ending and i actually really liked Phin. For me this shows how despite all the fun what comes from being Spider-Man it also comes with great sacrifice and loss, Peter had to lose Gwen (in the comics at least) and had to sacrifice May to the save the city, Miles had to watch his best friend and someone he may have felt more for die in front of him to save the city. I feel what makes Spider-Man who they are is the will to keep fighting, take the losses and keep going and doing what's right, Miles may have had the powers and a suit already in the game when it started but his fight with Phin is where he truly became Spider-Man and truly understood what makes a hero. Honestly these two games are the best versions of Peter and Miles outside of the comics and Spider-Verse, they really nail the core and heart of the characters and what makes Spider-Man well Spider-Man. Miles will no doubt suffer more loss and he will suffer just for being Spider-Man but like Peter he will keep fighting and doing what's right no matter the cost.

I will be honest, I hated the writing of Phin. Phin's action is really dependant on her not believing Miles. Nothing is more infuriating than a conflict that would not happen if 1 crucial detail was not omitted. If they could have written her to have a legitimate and interesting motive that doesn't rely on her being a pinch less informed than Miles, that would have made it more interesting.

@Thinkdoodles The game is like 8-10 hours if you're rushing like a complete tryhard. I took my time and it took me about 20 hours to complete.

9:47 that fall is my favorite scene of the game. Not only does Phin admit she was wrong not to listen to Miles by saying she is sorry, Miles also says it's okay partly because he made her distrust him by lying to her, but mainly because he understands her reasons and he loves her. All this is done in the face of death which gives it all the more weight. Phin had already lost her mask and Miles has to take it off during the dive. This is symbolic as they no longer look at eachother as the Tinkerer and Spider-Man, but rather as lifelong friends Phin and Miles behind the masks. Them embracing is an extension of this. All this happens in the spectacular fashion of the fall which makes it even better

For YEARS, the Tinkerer has always been a backseat villain, and sometimes kind of a laughing stock. Usually portrayed as another old white scientists, there wasn't much to differentiate him from all the other characters who were exactly the same (Vulture, Doc Ock, even Justin Hammer). To be perfectly honest, I didn't even know his name was Phineas Mason! So when Miles Morales chose the Tinkerer as it's main villain, I had my doubts - but as I mentioned, I didn't even have a clue of the Tinkerer's true name, so the Phin reveal came as a true surprise for me, and I became much more invested in her and Miles' relationship than I thought I would be. Phin's refusal to listen to reason and ultimately sacrifice herself hit me damn hard. Hell, even seeing Peter and Doc Ock hang out and praise each other in the flashback hit me hard. All credit to Insomniac and their writing team for not only creating possibly the best incarnation of Doc Ock, but raising one of the more forgettable Spidey villains into one that I'll never stop thinking about.

I agree with this game but PS4 Spider-Man I just didn’t care for the story or characters compared to their comic book or movie counterparts the written wasn’t the best and the only seen I really liked was when all the villains came together. Miles is a much better game and I really loved it far more always liked the combat but glad they improved on everything else.

I always think about that too. Sometimes Tinkerer can be a threat in terms of the machines he creates, but I love how this iteration is a beast that can actually hang with Spider-Man in one-on-one combat. She's my favorite version of Tinkerer and I'm salty they killed her off immediately.

I love how if you try to jump out a broken window in the middle of it she grabs you with her whip like “oh no you’re not getting away that easy!”

I just finished the game about 10 min ago. And I think we can all agree that throughout the battle between Miles and Phin was very emotional. Miles kept fighting for Phin and the city while Phin just wanted justice/revenge for Rick. And it was emotional because Phin sacrificed herself to save Miles and to help save the city.

I don't think Phin actually died, here's a little blog post: "While Phin does appear to die, players aren’t explicitly shown her death onscreen. As is often seen in superhero movies, no onscreen death can lead to a twist where the character returns. As the Tinkerer, Phin is probably able to survive the huge fall to the ground after the explosion. She has gadgets that allow her to mimic Spider-Man’s aerial abilities and even overpowers him in combat. If the explosion didn’t kill her, then she likely would have survived the fall. It’s the same case with Rhino, as it appears that Phin is able to finish him off before Miles can stop her. Again, it’s unconfirmed by the game’s end and, as a key villain, it’s unlikely that he’d lose his life so unceremoniously."

@@vayhn you're probably right with rhino but before Phin made the sacrifice, it's shown that all of her gear except for her boots stopped working so if you go by that, she wouldn't have been able to get out of the explosion. Also she was literally carrying a ticking time bomb so I think she did die for good

@@videodeposu8741 that almost ACCIDENTALLY destroyed the city. Had Kieger not changed the plans, this bossfight wouldn't've happened. Phin felt alone, betrayed and enraged. What person do you know, in a blind fury, can think logically? All of this started as trying to stop NuForm, which killed Rick. Kieger made her watch, taunted her as Rick tried to shut it down before it killed him. Phin was just trying to carry out her brother's will: Stop Roxxon and Krieger from releasing NuForm and poisoning Harlem. She just...lost sight of her goal because of her rage.

Hearing the sadness in phin voice when she tells miles to "let go".....that hit home.....

Man, I love Peter's ending, but Miles ending just hits just as much and a 0.000001% better for me. It showed the essence of a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man which I LOVE about the character. Especially, when he said "he's OUR Spider-Man" symbolizing he may be all over New York, but at the end of the day he knows the guy and knows he saved THEIR home, Harlem.

Well Peter's the Spider-Man of New York now, he hasn't really been a "Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" since he was a teen. Because his responsibilities as Spider-Man grew as he got older. With Miles being in Harlem and getting to know his new home through The Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man App, it really FEELS more personal with the ending. Because Miles was there for his community and helped them out in all the side quests and Harlem had the chance to interact with the new Spider-Man on a personal level than Peter. So when you save Harlem from the Nuform reactor and they see you stand back up, they know that you got their backs like you always have. So with the people of Harlem saying, "He's OUR Spider-Man." it really feels like it's true because Miles is Harlem's Hero.

@@captain2s404 Her sacrifice and redemption was not earned at all. She was going around destroying so much and killing many believing she would make a point. Then at the last minute she decides to make the sacrifice because the writers needed her to be sympathised with.

Ngl I like this Miles way more than I like comic miles, he's got his own personality, he just wants to live up to his perseved expectations that everyone has of spiderman, also for those that like the teenage highschool spiderman, miles can fill that role while Peter Parker can do other things like when he started his own company, or something elce, also the dynamic they set up between Peter and miles is pretty good, even for a side game this was awesomenes, thare better be Peter and miles co op in the next one

Yeah, somebody at Sony or Marvel must've really wanted Miles to succeed or saw some kind of potential in the character for them to start focusing on him and taking big risks like the Spider-Verse movie. The new stuff they're doing with him is bringing out his unique qualities and making better use of his side characters/relationship to Peter than the comics did. I hope they're going for a similar dynamic to Batman and his Bat Family dynamic, I think that can totally work with an older Peter, and maybe they can continue expanding the gameplay like how the Arkham games started including more of the Bat Fam in the later games.

Agreed, which I why I think the MCU could've done something like this. Kinda sick of Spider-Man also getting stuck in high school and having people assume he's just always been a kid when he was only in high school for like 20 issues. Though maybe it's better that the games did it since they give more time to develop the characters and you can actually experience the story.

I like that in Insomniacs version, we have adult Peter and teenage Miles so we get both an adult and a high school Spider-Man. Best of both worlds imo. I also love this iteration of Miles.

It also helps that Peter isn't killed off for Miles to be relevant. I love that they're both around now, 2 Spider-Man. Much better then having Peter shot and killed, I hated that about Miles first comic appearance.

Oh my god one of the best boss fights ever hands down. Between the gameplay and the end story it almost overwhelmed me. Literally bought tears to my eyes. So awesome!!!!

definitely a great start to Miles' journey as Spider-Man.

I love the immediate and dramatic differences between miles and spider-man. When he has the mask off we see a kid who's hurt and in pain, suffering from doing the right thing. And as soon as its put on, he becomes a whole new figure, a true hero for the people of Harlem and finally became his very own spider-man.

I love how both games' main villains weren't some evil psychopaths who just wanted to watch the world burn. They were someone that Spider-Man loved and were victims of a much worse person. You're never just fighting them but trying to save them also. Making these battles much more epic and heartbreaking

I had a glitch the first time playing this where once I beat her, instead of going to the cutscene, she just stopped fighting back and i wasnt actually able to defeat her. She just stood there while I was punching her for 10 minutes like "man this boss fight is tedious"

This was absolutely the best fight in these games so far. They combined every Underground variant’s gear and more into one enemy, resulting in a far more varied and exciting move set than anything else we’ve seen thus far. Not only that, but they nailed the fight time by not skimping on combat speed while also making enough phases to really let the player savour the fight. Very pleased after the lacklustre Sinister Six of Spider-Man 2018, even if Phin wasn’t the Tinkerer I’m used to. Rhino was also significantly better in MM, though that’s admittedly a low bar to clear. In fact, all of the bosses in MM were designed very well. It’s nice to see the developers improving on the weaknesses of SM-2018.

Damn I wish they could have said “I love you” to each other! Regardless I still cried 😭.

One thing about Miles that I find interesting, he helps bring out the best in people. Peter and Miles relationship in this game I really like. They are fine with sharing the Spiderman identity while staying true to who they are.

It’s funny cuz I’m Puerto Rican and black and he’s the first Puerto Rican superhero I ever heard of I remember when he first came out people didn’t like him cuz he wasn’t Peter Parker from the ultimate universe now he’s on tv shows has his own video game and his own animated movie soon it will be a live action film and I will be the first one at the movie theater 😎💯

Yeah it took about a year or so for people to warm up to Miles. That wasn't because he wasn't a cool character, it's because Ultimate Comics spent about a year mourning the death of Peter Parker. When Venom got re-introduced and the Spider-Verse story line started to take a hold people really started to love Miles. And ultimately he's the reason Omega Doom was defeated... because of a fucking sandwhich.

The game was not amazing. It was just pretty good. The story was not particularly great and had two of the worst villains in comic book media history. Simon Krieger represents the generic run of the mill piece of shit asshole who has a cartoony motivation, whilst Phin is a murderous bitch who becomes such a character without any proper reasoning outside of the motivation to bring Roxxon down.

Miles: put the space bound award in the trinity church Miles: goodbye phin.. That...that hit hard though

Remember when people actually thought that yuri wattanbe was the tinkerer. Bruh, they must feel so dumb now.

Then after it gets forced off Eddie it leaves traces behind and those traces become Anti venom when Mr Negative comes into contact with him. Interesting.

lowkey had me tearing up when i watched my little brother beat the game 😭

The final fight is so fun. Destructible walls and windows, Phins moveset, venom combos, the music. Such a fun fight

I hope they do something like Halo 2 where you plays as Peter Parker for like 60% of the missions then Miles for the other 40% then their stories can weave in together at the end.

Yeah I was surprised how short the main story was compared to Marvels Spider Man, that game took nearly 2-3 weeks to beat, this one only took me 4 days

@@Nathan-ur2xv I'm gonna guess they're making Miles sidelined a bit with all his school stuff to make the main focus on Peter, but when serious stuff happens hes gonna call Miles for a lil help. Or maybe they switch every now and then.

Tbh the last game's cutscenes minus side missions and filler scenes are only 2 and half hours like this game. I beat the first game in 4 days. I had extra time so I beat this one in 2 days. This game really isn't as grindy as the first one since I got 100% shortly after beating it.

@@Nathan-ur2xv i mean they could always make missions that only peter can start, and missions that only miles can start and let you free roam around the city as anyone and change character like in GTA5 or AC Syndicate Edit: For fights they could make Miles use his venom powers and inviaibility(i don't know if i wrote it right, i'm not native english speaker) and make peter more focused on gadgets

No lie the ending made me cry miles cares so much for his people and Harlem to sacrifice so much for it

Basic game, felt like a dlc, yet good enough to play if a spidey fan…however that last fight and scenes 9/10…powerful stuff. “I’m sorry” “It’s ok” Damn, felt that

Let's be honest, Miles was pulling his punches the entire fight. I know he does with everyone, Pete even admits to doing so with Taskmaster, but there's no way Phin took all those hits without Miles really holding back.

​@@youtubeperson3111 Think it's established in the comics. Mile's has a slow spider sense and less physical strength than peter. His other 2 abilities make up for this.
