PSA: I state pretty clearly that this video is focusing on the portable Spider-Man titles I've never covered on this channel before in any guise. Yes, there are other PSP, Game Gear, and DS games, but the vast majority of them I've already done videos on. Please remember this.

There was one you haven't covered before, actually. An Ultimate Spider-Man game on the Gameboy Advance, tied to the Treyarch game and developed by Vicarious Visions. You saving it for a proper video on the main game?
More people need to know about this Spidey GBC Easter Egg- if you drop down to the left of the Daily Bugle building during the Lizard chapter there’s a green pipe. You can drop through it by holding down and pressing A and there’s a loving recreation of Super Mario Bros 1-1 you can play through. Also if you want to play the worst thing you’ll ever experience, put “B1RDY” into the password screen to turn every enemy in the game into birds

I just read this and wanted to see and had no means of playing this other than one of those "play ___ game online" on my phone. So emulated controls upon emulated janky controls... the torture I went through to get to that little easter egg was so unfair.
Mysterio's Menace is still my favourite portable SpiderMan game to this day. The gameplay, soundtrack and graphics were absolutely fantastic. I still play it from time to time.
Mysterio's Menace was the first game I ever got for my GBA when I was a kid. Still love it.

If you think that's bad, look at how Spidey stands in the Marvel Vs Capcom games. It hurts just to look at him.
Mysterio’s Menace is what introduced me to spiderman gaming as a kid so I never really had an issue with the art style. I absolutely loved that game and spiderman ever since.
"On the run from the villain of the week" is a great way to describe "hiding in the basement from the in-laws."
Didn't expect one last video to drop on NYE. Thanks Matt! Cheers to 2023!!
I don't know who developed it, but there was a spider man game and watch made in the late 90s/early 2000 It was when Nintendo was releasing game and watch games in the tiny game boy shell, but they made a few original games also
I just had to pause the video real quick to say that opening sequence made me smile really big. That's awesome! Have a happy new year, Matt!
One particular thing I liked about the first GBC Spider-Man game is that Spidey didn't need to find webbing refills or have enemies drop them (even though he has an idle animation where he refills his web shooter). It probably would have been a pain to run out of webbing while swinging around an open map. So many games before that used the limited webbing approach, but it was nice to step away from that, even though the sequel didn't, and we wouldn't really go back to infinite webbing until the Spider-Man 2 movie game.
Dang, I kinda was hoping he'd take a look at Ultimate Spider-Man for the GBA. It was such a good game, playing as Venom was very fun and, hey, at least the cutscenes there had music!

This was my first game too and I could never even beat venom. This game was so damn hard. Its probably the reason I'm so jaded now about games /s
The walking sprite in the first Bits title looks more like Dare Devil to me. And that 45°stick figure kick is amazing
Remember playing The Amazing Spider-Man on gameboy a lot when I was little. Even though I was pretty oblivious about the "quality" of a game, playing that game just felt off.
5:29 "SPIDERMAN TURNS BRO" is a great headline.
Oh god I remember the GBC games! My first Game Boy games! Growing up I only ever had Game Boys, always getting my cousins' hand-me-downs. Started with their Game Boy Colors and these two were also my favourite two. I was a huge Spider-Man fan as a kid. Managed to beat the first game, but I was never able to beat the second. I always got stuck on the Vulture's level. My tiny child brain was unable to navigate that big map without dying.
As a kid I remember getting the first 2 GB games. I got pretty far in the first one but could never beat it. I also got to Carnage in the second one but had no clue what to do. Nostalgic to see them all these years later.
23:07 Ah, Ron Lim...a legendary Marvel artist... ...and then, sadly, he would be responsible for some of the worst artwork to be featured in the Archie Sonic the Hedgehog comics...

That's too bad, I remember him on Silver Surfer. As a kid i remember him getting a big push and seeing him featured in Wizard magazine and such.
I have some good memories of Mysterio’s Menace, my cousin gave it to me and it ended up being a lot of fun and fairly challenging too (though I was kid back then, I don’t know it would still be challenging now). I hope that at some point Marvel release a compilation of these games, hard to find them these days.

Anyone else remember that dreadful Coney Island level from the SNES Spider-Man game (1995)? That whole game was dreadful, come to think of it.
Even as a seven year old who bought spiderman 3 on gameboy with his own money I knew it was dog poop. Never got past the second level. Totally forgot about it until today..... 29 years later..... Thanks spidermatt?
Man, that Gameboy Color game had such great promises of villains on the back of the box. It's a shame I never got passed Venom
Glad to see Spider Matt back. I missed these.
OH NO! YOU MISSED A DETAIL! YOU'VE GOTTA REDO THE MOVIE! in all seriousness though, there's a neat little function in the color games, in the first game, if you press A, then B, or B then A, you can shoot a web ball. the second game is a little more finnicky, as you have to press A directly after B, during the punch animation. it's neat.
I played the shit out of that first spiderman Gameboy color game. Never could beat it. But had a blast.
Haven't watched yet but thanks for the new years gift! I found your channel this year and it's provided me with so much good wholesome video game content. Happy new year!
That music is nostalgic. Saturday mornings were cool back in the 90's.
Man this ended up being a fun ride, I honestly didn't know the Neversoft Started Spider-Man game series got a third game under the GBA of all things, makes me happy the plot of those games weren't completely abandoned, might have to pick up some of these games starring our favorite Web Slinger.
Spiderman 2 Sinister six was one of my first GBC games as a kid. Good memories.
There needs to be more Spider-Man games where Peter's love for wheatcakes are acknowledged.
I still have my old Spiderman 2 GBA cart with it's dumb pseudo 3D swinging segments.....not because I wanted to collect it, but back in the day no shop would offer more than $1 for it so I tossed it in a drawer and found it last week.
I actually had that first GBC game. And my mother bought me the game guide for the PS1 game by accident because game titles when needlessly confusing back then.
A fun video could be what you would do for a Spider-Man show or game, presenting it like a pitch you'd give to a studio.
Aww, Spider-Man and the Xmen on GB was skipped. I subjected myself to that game so many times I eventually had to love it.
I don't know if you'd actually be able to do a video on it, but I remember playing the two Spider-man plug in and play TV games a lot as a kid, and it'd be fun to go down that memory lane if possible
I remember that first GB Spidey game. My cousin let me play his copy and I recall Spidey's punch animation was weird but it was actually pretty useful for I believe the fight against Doc Ock, but only that one fight. Anywho, thanks for the video.
God, I wanted all of these games when I was growing up and I couldn't. Also, the name of the Doc Ock/Carnage fusion is "Monster-Ock"
Well, it seems 2023 is off to a good start!
The funny thing is that in gba's battle for ny in credits there's a cut scene audio guy

I played Spider man 3 on the Game Boy as a kid and I ultimately lost the battle against the horrible controls. I couldn’t make the climb up the buildings in level 2 and eventually rage quit.
I feel like ASM2 could have been developed as a pretty fun PC game
I remember my brother and I had Spiderman 2 on GBA and I had no idea how to get through more than half the game.
Mysterio's Menace waa a MAJOR part of me childhood. I never did beat it cause I sucked at games back then and eventually lost it, but I did rebuy it at a retro shop one day where I STILL haven't beaten it cause I'm too fucking busy or tired for games
I'm surprised Disney doesn't put out some legacy collections of old Marvel games. I still think it's worth it as a curiosity.
From what I recall from the first Amazing Spider-Man game on GameBoy, you make Spider-Man jump higher by "getting a running start," meaning he has to walk a distance before being able to jump high. If he doesn't walk enough distance he can't do it. Additionally in order to webswing, you have to do the high jump and if you hold the jump button, he will webswing. If you don't hold the button, he won't do it. I actually managed to beat that game and I remember figuring that out eventually. The first GBC game was great...except those birds like you mentioned. Killed the game for me. I did do the level select to fight the last boss though. The second GBC game was great IMO. Never played any of the other titles here.
Happy new year to you And your loved ones Matt and to the team that helps make your videos love the content and my first spiderman game was the gba version of the movie game and i loved that title as a kid.
One thing that comics, videogames, and cartoons all have in-common is: the first thing to go on Spidey's character model is the webbing. I swear it's why I'm so nostalgic for the Scarlet Spider's "solid red/blue hoodie" costume.
10:10 There is a reason why fox didn't sue others for using H.R Giger Xenomorph creatures. Not only that H.R Giger art was using that kinda bodyshape allready so the copyright is more strict to the fox. Also H.R Giger art is well "interesting" in it's own way so they didn't want to make too big fuss about it anyway. H.R Giger art have the biomechanical horror with erotic element mixed in. If you dare to look into his art on google you'll find familiar looking xenomorphs there, just more details of what part of human body gave inspiration on that part of xenomorph.
My thoughts on my repeated playthroughs of GBC Spider-Man 1 as a kid(I haven’t played it in 20 years): -fuck seagulls -boot to the head -I still have no idea where the super web is -the ceiling is my territory. All groundlings beware.
"Fight Frogs" 😆 🤣
5:14 This looks like "SPIDER-MAN TURNS BRO" - a dire fate for New York
I never owned Mysterio's Menace, but in Primary School, there was a girl that burnt me a CD-R with a GBA Emulator with several games on it. Mysterio's Menace was one of them.
Huh, Spider Slayers has a Tim meter. When that expires, must be time to go to Horton's
Loving the Pink Venom jump cut
I remember getting the last 2 GameBoy games for $8 each from a bargain bin in Wal-Mart.
I had the Spider man battle for new york on the GBA when I was a little kid, I found it very difficult and passed the game to my dad to get past the challenging parts
The GBC games look genuinely great for the time. Movement and animations look so snappy and smooth while the sprites are eyecatching and easily readable. It's no wonder that Vicarious Visions got the go-ahead to make the equally solid Enter Electro.
You got the Torus! 28:03
GBC Spider-Man is legit one of the character's most underrated games, and I think the best 2D Spidey game, actually. Always been a favorite. Mysterio's Menace is also great, but the original just has that special magic.
Oh Spider-Man GBC...never owned it but my friend had it. Never got far (reached the Lizard once I think) but I remember being very proud when I figured out how to cheese the Venom fight. I was like 10 so it was a big deal for me
"Tête à Tête with Fishbowl Tête." lol Good one!
I had the GBC first one as a kid, no idea if I ever finished the first level but was obsessed with swinging around!
I first found out about Matt while watching AVGN videos, but for some reason or another I never got to watch any of his videos, I think I must have watched over 30 in the past week. From all different series and I must say how much I’m enjoying them thanks for providing enjoyable content.

I covered them in previous episodes
Its funny how I grew up with a ps1 and a Gameboy , was big into games and gaming got magazines to read about new games , reviews ect. There wasn't much internet or advertising so games in shops all you had to go on was the box, it was a gamble of it was worth it unless it was "mainstream" or your friends recommended it. For instance I'm very interested in the rtypes series and have been collecting all the games over the years but there was a secret one I completely missed until recently when I looked them up , my brother got me it on the ps1 for Christmas XD we grew up with rtypes and both are big into it but like so many great games we missed out on in the day because there wasn't much internet those days or coverage of games . Because of it I'm hyper critical but I also found some hidden gems hunting in those games shops ❤️
That first Game Boy game I remember hiding in the school cloakroom during lunch with a friend who sneaked his Game Boy into school and played it, the rebels that we were.
The Spiderman Shinobi-style game on the Gameboy was actually the very first video game I ever played, even before Pokemon Blue and Tetris. Not a good difficulty curve for a 6 year old but it's incredibly nostalgic regardless.
Yay! Spider-Matt lives! Happy New Year’s 🎉
I worked on a lot of Torus' GBA titles. We always had to play 2nd fiddle to Vicarious and Activision would only pass on the scraps and overflow. But was some of the most fun times in my career and got to work with some amazing guys.

That's pretty interesting, 🙂🙏 guessing the shift of change of developers was rather an unexpected turn of events? *considering vv was working on mysterio's menace on gba and enter electro on ps1* and does that also include the human torch's solo adventure?? 🙂😁😁 *fantastic 4: flame on, in which that game was really a treat for me, I love the human torch in the original fantastic 4 movie, I appreciate ya gave him the spotlight he deserves
Quite the spectacular way to end the year .
I love the way you are preserving gaming history. I hope to see more! Also...if you ever want to run a delve into one of the most bizarre cases of bloated ego ever seen.... ever heard of Bob's Game?
spider man 2 sinister six on GBC was my jam. what a amazing soundtrack
I always played the hell out of Spider-Man 2002 GBA, wish I had my copy still…. 😢
I had the SM game for Game Boy and just like many games of the era, it was very difficult for children, it’s target market
Happy new years Matt lad
Tbh to let Hobgoblin crash onto the ground and hijacking his glider is pretty badass for a Game Boy game.
Every single SpiderMatt video forces me to comment about how fucking good the intro is. The intro is so fucking good. I love it unconditionally.
That intro was fantastic! what a great way to start my day. thank you :D

oh hey! that very first game on the list was one of my very first video games. end of sentence. I naturally never finished it on account of being baby but I sure did love it.
I remember using cheats to unlock all levels in Spiderman 2 gba. That first pizza mission was impossible to me.
Since you're playing with some Peter, you should do some Flophouse Plays of the old 90s arcade Spider-Man beatemup from Sega! Also cool to see Ron Lim doing some Spidey art! Used to love his run on Silver Surfer back in the day.
Love this! Spider-Matt is the best
If I were Spider-Man I'd web the ball at times square on NYE as it dropped just to be a jerk
Carnagepus the most epic name ever.
Mysterio’s menace is the first GBA game I ever got and seeing it in this video is giving me a lot of nostalgia
