Besides, it's pretty dumb to give all-powerfull glasses to pretty much the first guy I met. We know each other for how long? Couple of days? If I will want to get rid of the them, I will probably give glasses to Fury or some other trusted avenger instead. Pf, you're right, thanks for the advice Quentin, not sure what got into me. @@khayree7929 True, but it's completely in-line with his struggle in this film. He doesn't believe he's capable of living up to Tony's legacy, and calling him the "next Tony Stark" gave Peter the impression that _that's_ what was expected of him. So, in a desperate attempt to try and get away from that burden, he _jumps_ at the chance to give EDITH up to someone he thinks is more capable. It's not until Beck betrays him and Happy tells him how living up to what Tony did in Endgame is *impossible,* that he finally starts trying to carve out a new path for himself. Which consequently allows him to embrace being Spider-Man to his fullest by the end of the film... Until his identity is revealed, and he's framed for the London attack. It's honestly a really solid arc all things considered.

I understand people's frustration with this scene, Peter willingly giving up Edith to someone he didn't really know that well. However looking at from his perspective, he is well aware of his responsibility as Spider-Man yet with everything he has been through he feels he at least deserves some sort of a break. He meets what he believes is someone from an alternate universe who lost family (something he can relate to), is likeable and compliments Peter, and even was willing to sacrifice himself for a planet he isn't even a member of. This movie is supposed to be Peter realizing he can't look at the world in such a naiive way anymore, he's growing up and realizing what it means to actually be a hero.

You’re supposed to question his actions here, and that’s what most people don’t get. Peter is shown to be very insecure about the pressure put on his shoulders throughout the film, wanting to shove that mantle of ‘the next Iron Man’ somewhere else and have a simpler life. Mysterio is supposedly an interdimensional warrior who’s insanely powerful, saved the world, and is trusted by SHIELD. Posing as a hero to the extent Beck is uncharted territory for Peter, so for all he knows he’s trustworthy. Combine all these factors and it’s easy to see why Peter would do this, but that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be questioned. It’s the same with that scene in Spider-Man 2 when Peter walks away from a man being beaten; you’re supposed to question him.

Especially when it's supported by well known individuals who used to basically protect the world from all sorts of threats (Nick Fury), looks 100% real (the projectors), leaves behind physical evidence (the destruction made by the drones) and the thing they believe is the only thing they feel understands what they're going through and is willing to show compassion anyway.

I love Jakes performance in this movie as Quintin Beck/Mysterio. He is such an amazing actor, but so is Quintin Beck. He really had me fooled when this whole scene happened. A+ acting for both of them!

Jake Gyllenhaal totally owns the role of Quentin Beck/Mysterio. He was definitely one of my highlights in this film. Love his relationship with Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

I knew he was the villain but god dam he played the hero so well. I wanted to believe the lie, plus with how different the mcu is there might of been a chance. That betrayal stun. Edit : As a comic fan I knew he was probably evil, plus the writing was on the wall with how quickly they "beat" the elementals, but the mcu has deviated a few times from comics to explain away that. Point is that they could have made him a hero and it would have been a cool twist. The story was good enough to make up for it though.

1:16...I remember seeing this scene in this cinemas and instantly said “oh snap...” Its hard not to ignore he looks a little like Tony.

You gotta love how this version of Mysterio captures the other half of being an illusionist; good acting. It's not enough to be good at effects - you've also gotta be able to sell the audience and make them believe your words. This version of the character manages to do that by appearing affable and charismatic when he needs to be, tricking his audience (Peter) with his words and behavior just as much as he does with the smoke and mirrors.

90% of the audience knew Mysterio was going to be the villain and the good guy Mysterio scenes were still very well done.

I love every mysterio CGI drone scenes. It's like watching CGI inside the CGI

"Somebody get this stupid costume off me!" I'm 100% sure that's what Jake Gyllenhaal actually said when the cameras stopped rolling.

Didn’t he say in an interview that he loved the costume?

Top notch performance by Gyllenhaal in this scene. Casting him as Mysterio was one of the best things to ever have happen to Marvel.

Peter’s logic: This man who I’ve had 2 conversations with seems nice, so I’ll trust him with the last gift from my dead mentor, that also has the power so rule the planet

Well to be fair it wasn’t any regular gift for sentimental value. If it was like that he would’ve kept it cuz it would be meant for him. But this was more of a tool to do good and at the moment Peter saw Quentin doing more good with it than he could.

I love Mysterio and when he wear the glass his expression is just like Tony stark

I wasn’t surprised that Mysterio turned out to be an evil conman, since in the comics he is an illusionist and an enemy of Spider-Man. I only know this from watching the 90s Spider-Man cartoon series.

i know Mysterio was always a villain, but Mysterio as a partner and a sorta mentor to Spider Man was very charming in a supportive experienced brother sorta fashion

If you look again that BARF scene in Civil war, Tony really send a barrage of insults towards Beck tech, not just the BARF acronym itself, but, ie. "No one in their right mind would've ever funded it". And then, he gives fundings to every student for every their project, whatever it is, and lowers and compares Beck to them, like he is not a skilled tech guy in his company who created advanced holographic tech.

1:15 All the memories of Tony with Peter came back, he saw Tony in Beck. Damn, how sad this is.

It's the scene right after this one that is really really awesome, probably one of the best of the movie, just loved that reveal scene

"You'll get your trilogy when you FIX THESE DAMN GLASSES!"

Imagine if Peter had forgotten something on and came back walking in on this. xD

I almost screamed at the cinema when he gave the glasses to beck.. i mean i already knew mysterio was evil.

When Peter says "Confirm" he is literally a mirror image of Tony Stark.

I knew Mysterio was an act from the comic's, but he really did get me I this movie

It’s crazy how one decision from this scene started the entire plot of the movie

As predictable as this was the reveal itself was still really well done. I love that change in body language and personality Gyllenhaal just slips right into. And then the musical cue that goes from hopeful to more sinister as the camera pans

If I didn't know beforehand what Mysterio was, I would have wished this could've become a real friendship

Director Jon Watts and screenwriters Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers did Mysterio SO well!

"Are those...?" "The Edith glasses, yeah." "And they were just on the floor?" "..." I feel like I'm the only one who finds this funny in a way.

When I first saw this in the theaters I said out loud I NEW IT because I never trusted Mysterio from the start of the film and I new he was going to act like he’s a hero when secretly he’s a villain, it was obvious to me because I grew up with this character from the comics and this is 100% his personality in the comics

I know he’s the villain but goddamn did Jake do a good job at the “hero” role. I honestly don’t blame Peter for falling for it. He said all the right things and was actually the nicest adult in the movie (before the whole turning evil thing anyway). He knew what he was doing, making Peter feel wanted instead of just needed

Peter Parker: Tony Stark would’ve really liked you. Tony, and his spirit in the sky: No, I wouldn’t!

Gotta love how when he gives mysterious the glasses the avengers theme can be heard slightly in the background, but when spidey leaves it replaced by what I think is mysterio’s theme
