    It isn't hard at all. And I'm not jealous. I can spell it too. Here's how these kids and I do it. All you have to do is break the word into smaller words and... Pneumono/ultra/micro/scopic/silico/volcano/coniosis. ...Done. You just spelled it. They simply brag and say, "Oh, it's 45 letters and it's hard."

    Point is: Why not spell English (as in strictly English) words only? The national spelling bee even included a German word which should not have been accepted in daily usage of English and the English-speaking people. If that is so, let's include Russian, Albanian, other Indo-European languages, read Japanese Kanji and spell them out in Romaji, not to mention spelled out complete names of chemical compounds with hundreds of letters in each of them. To be fair though, it's the organizers choice of words but the words should be justified and should be in active usage. No, I'm not stopping anyone here from using foreign words, it's your choice and your freedom after all but, again, words chosen should have value to the competition not just loan some foreign words that are hard to pronounce and even harder to spell. But of course, you kids are so great to be there!

    @aidenlevendofsky6045

    All words used in the Spelling Bee are ‘strictly English’ words, they just are borrowed from other languages. English is a bit like a pidgin; due to history and geography, English borrows heavily from French German Latin and Greek, and the words from those languages become engrained into English. So all spelling bee words are English, unless you mean spelling bees should only include words thathave only English in their etmology. But in that case, you couldn’ use restaurant, guy, school, cycle, picture, etc. Also, the ‘active usage’ thing; spelling bees only use words from the dictionary, and words inly get into the dictionary if people use them. English is constantly changing as it becomes a universal language - leaving behind new concepts and gaining new ones.

    German is easy if you speak a language that is derived from German natively, English is one of them. My native language is Dutch, therefore I can understand German moderately, as the two languages are similar (very similar mind you). This is also probably the reason why I find German easy.

    Yeah, German has really long words, right? I heard, that there used to be a extremely long word, which referred to some kind of law regarding the job of supervising the work of tagging beef.
