Thanks David! Will be doing this eventually when I get my hands on my 5520. I didn't actually know ssd's needed a heatsink, I think I just straight installed them in my current 17 R4 laptop. Hi David, SDD and Heat sinks arrived today - Will follow your excellent video and let you know how it goes. One question - the copper Heatsink (which was very scratched and slightly dented btw) came with various sticky silicon themal pads. Where do these fit in relation to the SSD? Its unclear from the video if the copper plate is directly on the SSD or if you use a themal pad. On Amazon's Q&A some folks say they stuck the pads directly to the bottom of the SSD, on the chip side, and placed the copper on the flat side... Would appreciate your advice before I do this. Cheers!

No idea if it is 30 mm or 80 mm drive, website doesn’t say. But all are GEN 4 and not the 3 that came in yours. I contacted Dell support and confirmed it is still a 2230 (30 mm) drive, but is Gen 4. Dell are fine with you replacing RAM or SSDs provided you do not damage anything in the process. And this is such an easy job that providing you take it slow it is really easy to do. It was such an odd choice putting a slow 30mm drive in a high performance machine like this, they are clearly trying to separate it from the M15r7

insane to offer 1 SSD slot, I've no idea why Dell continues to make ports and upgradability worse and worse every year, it's impressive. Looking through the comments, it's a shame to see all the people buying a dell g15 when legion 5i pro 3070ti 12700h 2tb is $1640 in states after rakuten, legion 7 3080 being $1799 at Walmart. The G15 5515 ryzen edition has 2 ssd slots just a fyi. If you look at the video you can see the second ssf slot on the right strait across from the one he replaced in the video. The reason he probably replaced the old drive is because dell only provides 1 bracket for the 228o and its under the smaller ssd it comes with. If you want to install a second ssd you have to buy the kit with another ssd.
