    Seth, How much do you weight? I am 5'11" and weight 210 lbs. I really like the Revo 16" but I am wondering if I am going to have stability issues. I now have a Cobra Tourer that has seen better days which is 28.5" wide, but the shape of the hull helps with stability. I am wondering if I'll be able to handle choppy seas on the revo 16 when fishing or be able to get back on the kayak from the water without difficulty when I go diving.

    Thanks! The drives belong to our demo kayak fleet, which don't get sold until the end of the model year. If you're in Portland, OR or nearby we'll be having an event at the shop on September 8th and selling off all of those boats!

    Thanks for your time on this video. Not to many on the revo 16. Thinking of adding this yak to my arsenal. I have a pair 14 that I love and it is a great boat once it's on the water. But a few of my fishing trips are geared more towards no boat ramps. So my pa14 is a lot of work on some outing. What is the weight difference from the pa14 to the revo16? And does the revo16 have a skeg like the pa?...I would like to see a more in depth review of the revo 16. No dealers near me have one in stock for me to look at. They all direct me to the outback. Again thanks for your time.

    Thanks for the comment Brad! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. The Revo 16 weighs 92 lbs rigged, compared to the PA14 at 145 lbs, so you'll have over 50 pounds less to haul around! The Revo doesn't have a skeg, but because it has such a long & streamlined hull design it tracks extremely well and doesn't need a skeg. It does have an optional daggerboard insert for sailing, but that would be excessive for paddling/pedaling. There are a lot of dealers that don't work with the Revo 16, but we've had a lot of success with it and I think it's an incredible boat. When our 2019 models roll in I'll try to do an in depth review off the water about all of the features.

    @@AmericanKayakSupply I'm curious, I have ran across a couple pics online of revo's with H-rails mounted on them.. Looked to be the 9" bars next to the seat. Then the longer bars more forward towards the bow a bit. What's your thoughts on this interfering with the kayaks stability being so narrow?.. Would you think this could be done securley, with backing plates inside the yak?. Just curious is all. I do a lot of trolling now and then. Just curious if It could be added so I could swap all my gear attachments back and forth from the pa.. Just thinking out loud, it gets expensive sometimes.lol

  • @AmericanKayakSupply

    That's a pretty interesting idea that I'd never considered! I just went and grabbed a 9" H-Rail kit and lined it up in a few places on our Revo 16 that's in the showroom. If you line up a set of 9" starting with the back of the rail in the wide part of the gunwale just in front of the rudder Up/Down handles they set up perfectly much like they do on the Outback. You could also get away with longer rails (probably not a full 21", but you could trim a 21" to a custom size) and have them starting on the gunwale in front of the Up/Down handles and run further up onto the bow. The gunwale is so thin along the side of the seat and really anywhere further back from the Up/Down handles that two things might happen: 1) You would most definitely have the base of the H-Rail overhanging, which means the potential to snag things and it won't look very clean 2) It would be extremely difficult to put any kind of backing inside of the boat in this area, and also a higher than necessary risk of cracking the hull where the bolt/nut are making contact. Of course the only downside of putting it starting at the Up/Down handles is that it's a bit of a reach from the seat, but I'd say it's more worth it than trying to mount it on the thinner parts of the gunwale!

    Seth, if you have time to respond, I'd appreciate it. Need to pick your brain. My Revo 16 came in. I took it out a couple of times. I'm having a really hard time with the stability. Seems like fairly small weight shifts or actions on my part end up with me going straight into the water. I demoed a 13 and it felt fine to me, prior to ordering the 16. I don't remember the 13 feeling particularly "tippy" to me, but man, the 16 feels very tender. Am I crazy? I'm getting conflicting feedback from some Hobie pedalers. Some say there is no difference in stability from Revo 13 vs. 16. Some say, yes, there is a difference, and that the 13 is more stable. Curious as to your opinion. Do you find the 16 to be unstable at all, or more unstable than the 13 by comparison? Do you get used to what I'm experiencing? Thanks for any feedback. Great videos.

    8.9mph standard fins and 9.2mph turbo fins. Sounds like the gain is not that much.

  • @AmericanKayakSupply

    @AmericanKayakSupply

    5 жыл бұрын

    In this case the difference was pretty negligible, but the point of the turbo fins isn't actually to increase top speed, it's to increase the speed at a more sustained effort. For example, if you were going out to kayak for 5 miles or so at a walking effort (which is what most people do when going out for the day) it would generally give you a .5 MPH or slightly better boost, which over that amount of distance is surprisingly helpful.
