    Exploring with Nug I mean I would google all that info. With technology always updating you may want to see what people are talking about on the internet. Look at benchmark tests. Find companies that make custom computers for what you want to do and let them know what system you have and what you want to do and they will point you in the right direction!

    Jamie, you’re one of the best Resolve “tutorialists.”. Really appreciate the content. Was getting frustrated with speed ramps because I didn’t know the trick with sliding left-right on the blue bar. Question, do you get smoother results ramping a 60fps clip on a 24fps timeline than 24fps clips? So far I feel like speed ramps/hyper lapses in Davinci are not as smooth as FCPX, and I use stabilization, motion blur, and optimal flow-speed warp.

  • @JamieFenn

    @JamieFenn

    4 жыл бұрын

    DEFINE FILMS first of all, thank you for such an awesome compliment. Second, you can do all the same things in davinci as you can in fcpx. I always use a 24 fps timeline and usually shoot higher framerates. I also never break the shutter rule (double your frame rate) so motion blur is natural and if I want to add more blur I’ll drag in an adjustment clip and add a blur effect, keyframe the opacity, and that usually does the trick 👍🏼

    Loving the DaVinci tutorials Jamie and just subscribed to the channel. If you are looking for ideas then how about something to seamlessly showcase photos alongside video footage without resorting to the standard (and done to death) Ken Burns panning shots. Tons of ideas and videos for this in Premiere Pro but little or none in DaVinci.

    Inevitably I find myself taking photos alongside video and have never figured out a good way to incorporate both together without just slapping a photo or two between video shots and sticking a pan or zoom on it (which never looks great). Good day!!! This is a very amazing tutorial! I didn't even know how to do the motion blur effect in post in davinci! Thank you co much!! But an observation; When you were working with the Retime curves, I observed that the curve was set to "Retime Frames" ..... that will not give you the smooth speed ramps you intend. Instead to get the curves to work right, I'd suggest you change that curve to "Retime Speed" then you be able to smoothly speedramp. Thank you once again for your tutorials!!! You are one of the amazing few killing it in resolve. PS, I have a question for frame interpolation, is there a way to turn change it to optical flow for each individual clip in resolve? Or can that only be done in the entire timeline only. Thank you. Sam.

  • @JamieFenn

    @JamieFenn

    4 жыл бұрын

    I had both selected and I was adjusting the speed ramp with the curves so I'm not sure what you mean? But ill double check. And for the frame interpolation, I think its only possible for the individual clips. If you wanted to try and do the whole timeline you could do each one separately or maybe try and make one big compound clip and do it from there. I suggest not doing one big clip as your computer will probably explode hahaha XD

    HI Jamie, I hope you are doing fine. I am just curious with Davinci Resolve and I saw this tutorial. I immediately subbed as you make great tutorials. I can say that speedramping is much easier here than Premiere Pro. It seems that speed ramping in Davinci is as easy as in Final Cut. Can you try editing a video like Daniel Schiffer? He abuses speed ramp transition to the beat and I am dying to do this kind of edit. My only option is Davinci as I am using a PC. Hope you can acknowledge me. Have a great day to you and stay safe!

    Ok I'm still having a heck of a time trying to figure out the speed controls. It's not as easy as you make it look. I keep getting glitches and adjacent clips pulled in and all kinds of random stuff happening when I try to adjust the ramps. For example, I marked and cut out a clip to add a time compression effect. I need a smooth transition up and down - I want to ramp from 100 percent up to 400 then back with no visible cuts so it blends into the entire scene. How exactly do I set this up? Every time I touch the curves I don't get the intended effect. I drag a curve point and it goes back or forward in time to an adjacent clip. I don't get it.

    It looks easy to watch you do it but I spent hours messing with the ramp feature only to give up. It does lots of weird things when you start moving the curves manually that aren't really explained like adding reversed frames, stuttering, repeating, etc. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I need to dig into the documentation to figure it out.

    Jamie do you know if I can use this method or similar to convert VARIABLE FRAME RATE video (18.4 average) into something usable WITHOUT duplicating any frames? At the moment, as soon as I drop my VFR clip onto any timeline, resolve automatically creates a bunch of duplicated frames.

    Hi Jamie! I've been using speed ramps for quite a while now... but there are a couple of things that bother me when speed ramping: when selecting the speed for a certain part of the clip, i can only select certain speeds (max. 800%) or I can pull up the speed in the curve. When working in the curve, it's hard to nail a certain speed, e.g. EXACTLY 1000% Also, the scale of the speed ramp does not automatically adjusts to the speed of the segments. Is there a way to set the speeds for each segment of the clip exactly (like in the clip speed dialog...which unfortunately is applied to the complete clip and deletes any speed ramping)? Or maybe to set the curve in certain steps, e.g. 50% steps?

    I find the speed percentage method as slightly too direct and also mathematical (inorganic) in a way? I usually just use the retime speed option from the curves and adjust them manually. Is there a difference in the end result from either approach?

    hey jamie , @6:25 since ur shot is high fps (60) u can get slow motion smooth witouth optical flow or anything else , however what confuses some people says change clip attributes to whatever your project settings is and then add it to timeline so it will be slow motion . like shoot in 60 fps change clip attibute to 30 fps and put it in 30 fps time so you will have 50% smooth slowmotion. But you are just changing clip speed to 50% to get slow motion here. which one is the correct way to have smooth slowmotion. or are they totaly same ?

    Depends on your project framerate settings, what your shot frame rate is, and how slow you slow the footage down. My project is always 24 fps, that way I get the maximum flexibility with higher frame rate footage.
