I like this transition too. But a couple of things to keep in mind. First, the "object" in the first scene should be recognizable as being in the scene. Your first example of a dark pole is fine, but it can appear to the viewer as just a wipe instead of a moving transition because psychologically, the viewer doesn't cognitively process that it is actually in the first scene. So I would prefer using an object that is lit properly so one can mentally (even if subliminally) process it as belonging to the first scene. And speaking of lighting, it can seem visually jarring if the first scene has light coming from a different direction than the second scene. You may WANT this effect, but if you want visual smoothness, then be sure the lighting is more or less similar between two scenes. If you really want to do this up, you can even have the object fade out at the same time it is transitioning by masking it and doing a lap dissolve on it. Just some creative ideas.....

This is another great tutorial. Thanks so much for sharing this and the footage so we could play around with it. The only comment I would make is that the tree's very thin so it makes it look like an inbuilt transition - that's me being super picky. Loving all the tweaks you add to this to give us such a sweet transtion! Been out shooting today ready for an upload so am sure going to be using this :-) Keep 'em coming!

Hey man, so I actually came over from premiere pro. It was a good program for a while but it would crash wayyyy too many times a day and have so many other problems. It was apparent that Adobe wouldn't fix it when it went on for a year like that only getting worse. If I was editing for 8 hours, no lie it would crash between 20-25 times... So I went to resolve. I would pic resolve over premiere if I were you because first it's cheaper and you can do more within the program than premiere. Also it's more reliable. They are both not easy to learn but once you get a hang of it it's great :)

  • @BillyRybka

Hey! So make sure you add the directional blur in the color page and also make sure you have the adjustment layer selected. What version of resolve are you using? If it's 16.1 it could be a glitch. If not try it in a different project and see if it's still happening. There was one time where it was my actual project file that was giving me the problems and once I copied and pasted everything into a new project it worked flawlessly. Let me know if you get it to work :)

I'm having to add softness to each keyframe individually. Is there a way to add softness to all of them at the same time? I've selected all of the keyframes in the keyframe box and adjusted the softness, but it only applies it to one frame. Am I missing something, or is this just the way it is?

Hi I watched this video and did the same Transition but the problem is when I added the softness at the end it was added to only one key frame(same goes for this video as well if u look back closely) .. the thing with resolve is u have to add the softness before u start key framing otherwise u will have to add the softness to all the key frames which is really painful
