I also own this in PS2, and this game is a surprising masterpiece. I like how it is a mix of Mario Kart and especially F-Zero. The Aggressive Opponents cheat is fun to use as it makes the AI act EXACTLY like in the movie.

7:09 Gray Ghost was always my favorite Driver and his car is personally one of the coolest of them all. I always picked him to race.

I won every race with Gray Ghost.

Prince Kabala's car is either really safe because you can see it from a mile away, or really dangerous as it will blind you if you get within 100 meters.

Also, all those jewels could become projectiles if ripped off of the car at high speeds. This happens during the Grand Prix in the movie, when Cannonball Taylor wrecks Prince Kabala while fighting for the lead. Prince Kabala's car begins to violently tumble over and over, as many of the jewels on his car are thrown off everywhere. Speed Racer, who is just behind the wreck, is seen visibly jerking his head to the side to avoid being hit in the face by diamonds which have essentially become bullets at this point.

there were more cars in the movie that had real life sponsors. There were two cars in the Grand Prix sponsored by Pirelli, an Italian tire company.

That background theme tho

One of my favorite racers on the PS2. I never was able to unlock all the racers when I had the game so this was interesting to see. Especially considering a number of the vehicles the characters drove here were just converted cars from the rally scene in the movie. Still really wished they had an alternate car class that let you use the road cars and not the T-180 machines.

all the racers have their own personalities that even shine through in there car designs which, the car designs on their own are already fucking awesome as well as everyone getting their own original logo designs from sponsors and all that like ughhh the friggin designers of this game and the movie are the unsung heroes like holy shit also was Trixies car an original here? or was it in the movie I cant remember lmao

That's what the creators were going for, they made up over 100 fake car brands and sponsors, and got some real sponsors mixed in for effect. Speed racer is based on hot wheels, and skate boarding, since it's an xtreme sport

The only thing I missed is the other cars that appeared in the movie in the last race and aren't in the game... That car that Speed ​​destroyed before the big crash was cute, it could have been there, but overall, this game is wonderful!

Here's the thing that don't makes sense and it bothers me, everytime I played rocket league I always think of those cars cause they jump like the cars do in rocket league and I'm like why don't they add like 3 cars from Speed Racer? It still sucks

I spent almost ten minutes choosing the driver/car, why? Blame that menu soundtrack, this is one of ten video game songs i will never forget 😭
