It is also worth noting that this does not involve a hacksaw, which 99% of "how to remove X" videos do.

I pulled it up by gripping firmly beneath agitator with both hands in a parallel position then pulled upwards and it came off quite easily 👍. Thanks for the video bro 😎 You saved my wife and I a call to the maintenance man 👨.

I was able to pull it up using this method as well. It does take some dedicated force but not THAT much force. A strong tug or a few will do the trick!

Just wanted to add, I was able to run up to the only thing holding it or some plastic clips. I would say, move slowly by firmly, and you should be able to get it off by hand. Probably 20 or 30 pounds of pressure.

I just watched your video and didn’t have the inflatable wedges, and I was stuck at how to remove the agitator. I asked my 15 year-old son what he thought. After using the terminology in your video and showing him parts of the video as to how the part worked, he came up with the idea of using some type of string. Thank you so much for your video. It helped educate myself and my son and we found it alternative way to pop the agitator right off. My 15-year-old had a slide flat rope under opposite sides and then put pressure from opposite sides and it popped right off. We would not have known the mechanical force issue behind removing it had it not been for your video..

After watching your very helpful video and reading through all the comments, I grabbed two plastic shoehorns. I slid them under the bottom agitator lip on opposite sides and that created space to get my fingers underneath and gently pull and rock it side to side to eventually pull it off (it took a good 5-10 minutes).

Thank you so very much for this. I have to change the bearings and seal- bought the kit but haven't done the repair yet cause I have not been able to remove the agitator. Its a slow, intermittent leak so I figured before I do the repair I need to make sure I can get the agitator off. Well I couldn't. I used pry bars meant for my car moulding, I used my belt to yank on it and nothing worked. Last night after seeing your video, my air wedges arrived. And it still was not easy. It was very stuck. I was afraid I was going to crack the agitator. I used all three, evenly, and had to quit multiple times out of fear of a snap. But on the fourth try an hour later it came off. Holy gunk underneath. Well it should be much easier now that its been off once, and cleaned. If you're still reading or anyone else is, thank you !

I'm glad the video was helpful! In my case, the agitator was gouged and it would damage the clothes so I replaced it. OEM was $20, shipping actually cost more ha. A lot of the time gunk is from fabric softeners.

To fit back the agitator, just place it on top of the shaft it came off and gently turn until the slots in the agitator and shaft are aligned. It will then slightly fit into position, all you have to do from there is firmly press down on the agitator until you hear it snap in place 😉

Thank You. This is the only video, so far , that explains how to remove agitator. I discovered that My almost 11 yr old speed queen has some gunk living inside the agitator.. the gunk was seeping through the oval holes in the agitator and I kept trying to pull the gunk through with my fingers. I wasn't sure how to take the top part off and this explained it well. I can't believe NOBODY else has come across this issue.. There are videos explaining how to remove the entire agitator but nothing explaining how gunk can get INSIDE the agitator.. Hopefully, this will come to use to others. thanks

I’m glad I was able to help. At 11 years old your Speed Queen is barely broken in. Do you use a lot of fabric softener, I hear that usually is the reason for gunk accumulation.

Speed Queen Model?? This agitator and drum look identical to my 23-year-old Amana. Apparently I can't get parts for my Amana anymore so I'm curious what model the Speed Queen is??? My guess is I can still get parts even though the parts websites say they're obsolete. The agitator is literally identical to mine and removes the same way thanks to this video. I bought two bladders from Lowe's last night and was able to easily remove it. PS - the reason I want to keep the Amana going is it's built like a tank. Modern washers are not unless you spend a couple thousand. This unit was $550 in 1999. Has a stainless drum and beefy motor and pump housing.

Hi All. Great video. My agitator was able to be pulled straight up with brute force and no airbags. I found 30 years worth of hardened scale underneath. I'm looking for the source of a very sticky greasy substance in my bowl. I found the rubber washes sealing the bolts under the agitator to be degraded. I wonder if this is the source of my brown gunk. Any ideas?
