Thats actually a nice hotel room
The Last Starfighter is such a cult classic. I wish it got more attention.
I remember the Stargate SG1 tv show. It one of the best tv shows.
It was an amazing festival! I hope you enjoyed Badger too! 🎉

I did!
Great work, as always. I like hearing your thoughts on older movies, you should do it more often.
I like this. Reviewing old films. Should do it more.
Man I’d love to see Speed on an imax
Agree on the shout out to Jackie Brown.
Late to the party on this (finding the time). Great video on reviewing films from the past and see how they play today. I think Speed is a modern masterpiece (actually I thought it was a classic a few years after it's release) doesn't date at all by mostly avoiding contemporary surroundings. I like Roland Emmerich films for the most part, he has big guilty pleasures vibes, I used to watch Universal Soldier alot, but I like Stargate, Independence Day, The Patriot, Anonymous, and White House Down they work with his childlike sensibility and all about the BIG PICTURE. Peter Hyams one of the last great journeymen, my favourite movie of his is Narrow Margin (remake), I don't think it got fantastic reviews at the time, but it's got a great performance by Gene Hackman, good atmosphere and it may be a slow burn but it's rewarding. Check it out if you haven't seen it. I'm glad you had a good time and I hope you review more old movies in the future. 👍
Really enjoyed this. Sounds like such a cool festival with any great movies and your enthusiasm is fantastic to see.
I was expecting the Mistress to barge into the hotel room at any time! Oh well, we'll just wait for the crossover episode...

Might not have to wait long to see her in my hotel room...
Great to know, we share very similar opinions on the festival and the films shown.
I only saw The Last Starfighter for the first time on TV about fifteen years ago but I fell in love with it and bought it on DVD. Also, it’s 40 and I’m 40, that a little weird but I’m strangely okay with that.
What a lineup now this is my kinda festival.
"Pop Quiz, Hot Shot!" used to be an iconic line from one of the best action movies ever made. Then you-know-who decided to make a stupid game show with that same name...

Probably the worst thing they ever made...which is saying something. Even the title wasn't original...
Random/pointless musings! 15:50 I do find it interesting that films the poster for '50ft woman is iconic but [like the Raquel Welsh 'one is million years BC' film] I doubt many have actually seen it. 26:53 The 1993 Nikita remake isn't as bad as it's often made out and has a great lead performance from Bridget Fonda but it needed a different director as John Badham was past his best. Interesting that Gabriel Byrne will be in the upcoming female John Wick spin off 'Ballerina' [which should have been out this week but was pushed back to 2025 due to re-shoots], maybe as an [unintentional] nod to this film? 27:12 My main issue with 'Long Kiss' is Craig Bierko's villain as I feel he's miscast, and not as good as Shane Black previous villains Mr Joshua [Lethal Weapon] or Milo [Last boy scout]. 33:00 Capricorn was partly funded by UK TV bigwig Lew Grade [who infamously also did mega bomb 'Raise the Titanic']. An antidote I heard was him visiting the set asking when the martian's would be showing up...as he apparently hadn't read the script! 38:17 I remember Arnie saying James Cameron recommending Hyams to direct his 1999 film 'End of Days' but felt he was the wrong director for the job and regrated taking the recommendation without question.
Film Brain - What Is Your Opinion On Trolls Band Together & Can You Please Review It?
Do you like the films pain and gain and 13 hours.
Roland Emmerich at his worst is more tolerable than Michael Bay at his best because even the relative "highs" of Bay's career like Bad Boys and The Rock they still have the same problems that his later films have with the mixture of low brow humor mixed with mean spirited tones and overlong runtimes. For all Emmerich's faults as a director/writer at least he doesn't keep things at a gratingly protracted level (save for 2012''s third act or the dull-as-dishwater 10,000 BC).
