Typical example of why the police fill me with contempt these days. They have lost the trust of the public imo and rightfully so.

They can catch speeding motorists but they can’t catch burglars rapists and thieves. It’s good to know they have their priorities in order.

My point is maybe people wouldn’t get so angry about being caught for speeding if more important crimes were dealt with as more of a priority. At the end of the day it’s all about getting money out of motorists because we’re an easy target. Absolutely nothing to do with road safety.

@@MC-gp1zg police staff do it so regular officers CAN focus on the more serious crimes, the police don’t see a penny from speeding fines (it all goes to the treasury’s consolidated fund which is basically the public purse) but it’s the police that’s decides when and where speed enforcement takes place and as they don’t profit from it how can money be the incentive?

If I remember correctly, "..they are exempt from certain laws during the course of their duties, however, some laws are so bloody long-winded & vague in their wording that they are more often than not left open to interpretation. Usually in the Police/Justice systems favour." That, or as close to it as I can 'mind, came from the lips of a solicitor. I took a small amount of comfort from hearing that.

So they can mount and drive over a curb, but yet we can’t drive over a curb to our homes in case the curb gets damaged, well that’s the excuse the council use to make us pay £1500 for a dropped curb. Go figure. These are just revenue collecting as there are very few accidents on that road. It’s a road that encourages a higher speed.

I was on a 1200cc bike come down the dual carriageway doing the speed limit some daft idiot in a car pulled out on me and I sped up to go around flash idiots flashed me even though slowed to speed limit as soon as passed idiot driver who caused problem I got fine 3points even when safety course was option but not offered idiots was over by 5mph for couple of seconds and avoided accident my reward my life three points and hundred pound fine running up to Xmas well done officers well done :/

Interesting to note: Cops frequently make threats that they try to cover the threat by saying its advice. But I thought law enforcement wasn’t supposed to give legal advice? They are not attorneys, so if they gave you erroneous legal advice, they and the department could be liable.

I ride motorcycles and there was a trend of ordinary bikers wearing high viz jackets with ""POLITE" written on them in the same font as the "POLICE" jackets. These people were hauled up for it and threatened with impersonating police officers. Whichever way you slice it a civilian (even in the employ of the police) has not sworn an oath, has no powers of arrest and is no different than those bikers the police threatened with prosecution. You can't have it both ways, either employ real police to do the job or remove the police livery off the vans and clothing.

While police vehicles may be allowed to park in certain places that others can't, that doesn't make them exempt. A full risk assessment should be carried out first. Here's part of a reply from Northumberland police regarding a complaint: 'All sites have been risk assessed and deemed suitable and safe for the enforcement vehicle to park.' I don't think this van is parked in a suitable place. What if a pedestrian with a child buggy wanted to get past? What if an elderly person crossing the road crossed here and was hindered by this large parked vehicle?

It unquestionably is not a footpath, the police can park there for police purposes. If you decide to cross at that point, walk around it there being masses of free space.

@@PillSharks It isn't about stopping collisions, it is about getting motorists to observe posted threshold so that WHEN they hit something, physical trauma is minimised.

Funny how police don't like cameras, but get BOOTLICKERs to do work to watch EVERYONE else, can we please state we're in fear of getting a fine so stop recording, and OUR no. Plate are private and could you stop filming because it could be used to elicit money...?

Observation time. A. Was he a police officer in there doing his job, if yes no badge number on his uniform. B. if he was a civilian working for the police then that is fraud by misrepresentation. C. double yellow lines on both sides of the dual carriageway means no parking. I'm no fan of the Police, but catching speeding drivers has reduced road deaths. In 1966, 7985 people were killed on the roads in the UK, the highest in peacetime . in 2019, the figure was 1870.

Just quoting a raw piece of data doesn’t really make much sense in isolation. Over the last 10 years the figures have hardly changed, 2020 being an exception for obvious reasons. Raw data equally doesn’t account for reporting methods and their accuracy or lack of nor does it take into account the improvement in vehicle safety which has played a significant role in reducing road deaths. Your implication seems to be that these speed camera devices have been responsible for the reduction in fatalities and that isn’t the case. The matter is far more complicated.

Amazing response time from the Police. Get problems like burglaries, anti-social behaviour, vandalism etc etc, they take hours to turn up if at all. Shows their priorities, taking the knee, doing the lambada, helping stop oil protesters and the easy targets, motorists.

There is nothing like distracting drivers for enhancing road safety. They really believe that saying the word 'SPEEDING' makes motoring safer. Maybe they had a point 30 years ago with much higher speed limits being exceeded but today we have 30mph speed limits on long straight stretches of dual carriageway and drivers prosecuted for driving at 35mph. That is not about road safety by propaganda and revenue generation. I was fined driving through Cardiff a few years ago for going through a road which had been changed to a bus only road. I have a dash cam and I paid the fine but sent the Cardiff road muppets a copy of the video which clearly demonstrated that the small sign which had been purposefully been placed at the top of a VERY tall pole was not visible from a car. They refused to lower the sign so it was visible and continued to fine people. They know the sign cannot be seen but continue to issue fines, That is a SCAM.

Unlawfully parked to catch unlawful speeding? That's a bit weird, there's no emergency that gives him the right to park there.

There is NO requirement to be attending an emergency. All that is required is a policing purpose. EXEMPTIONS FROM PROHIBITIONS AND RESTRICTIONS EXEMPTIONS FOR EMERGENCY SERVICES 51. 1) Nothing in this Order shall apply to any vehicle on an occasion when it is being used for fire brigade, ambulance or police purposes, if the observance of that provision would be likely to hinder the use of that vehicle for the purpose for which it is being used on that occasion.

It's actually pretty common that councils will pass a law allowing emergency vehicles to park wherever they want. We have such an ordinance in my city

They have done that for every Police Force in Australia, total immunity from prosecution for all offences against traffic rules and regulations, even when not involved in an emergency. Only a matter of time before the UK follows that example.

Well you think you're clever, safety camera helping to reduce speeds, just think if no one speeds no one gets fined. 🤔

When Police start out an interaction with "advice" and dress it up as something they are doing to prevent something worse happening to you as if it's a favour, you can generally take it that they have no powers in that situation as it is and they can't do anything. But at least most Coppers still recognise that. It's when they wade in misusing/abusing powers on a routine basis that we should be very worried (and take action).

The man in the van looked , sounded and behaved just as I imagined he would. Theres always a snake ready to work for other snakes.

The gentleman in the Police van is not a Police Officer, and therefore by sitting in the van is guilty of impersonating a Police Officer, i.e. a criminal offence! His jacket states that he is 'Police staff'!

Section 90 of the police act states “Any person who, not being a constable, wears any article of police uniform in circumstances where it gives him an appearance so nearly resembling that of a member of a police force as to be calculated to deceive shall be guilty of an offence and liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding level 3 “ So he’s not impersonating anyone because as he is police staff, he is a member of a police force, and there is no law anywhere that states only police officers can drive marked police vehicles.

How come when someone breaks in police gives me a crime number and recommend a security system, but if they catch me speeding its money fine, points that i have to pay. Systems in the uk just make you pay pay pay unless you have nothing. Then you just gain gain gain
