Special Report: How The Chinese, Others Destroy Osun Community Illegally Mining Gold

Atorin-Ijesha in Atakumosa East of Osun state is one of the many local government areas in Nigeria where gold and other minerals are found in large quantities.
Over the years, foreign miners, especially the Chinese, have invaded the community, destroying farmlands, and polluting water bodies with mercury, and lead, thereby endangering the health of the people.

TVC, this is poor journalism. Did your reporter talk to the Minister in-charge of Solid Minerals? No. Was any attempt made by you to confirm the immigration status of the Chinese men at the illegal mining site? No. Did TVC encourage another media house, for example, a newspaper, to do a follow-up on this documentary? No. Were the representatives of Atakumosa LGA at the National Assembly in Abuja contacted by your reporter for a deeper insight into the illegal mining activity? No. If TVC had done it’s job professionally, it would have helped to force the hands of the government to do something beneficial to our economy with regard to illegal mining in Nigeria.

That's not an invasion, the corrupt official in the local, state and federal government is culpable..... The Chines are doing what legitimate for any exploitative company. . Some body or group of body must have mapped the location for the Chinese... What are the conditions attached for the mining.. nobody knows. Incompetence is the haullmarks of our official. Even they by-pass the local king... bring in a security carrying weapons

The people of that community should rise up and protest this destruction of their land. The State and Federal govt are in cohort with these Chinese excavator companies. It's time to rise and say No to any excavation done in their land. These Gold excavations are supposed to be used by the state or federal government to develop their community and the state . The damage to their land or farmland is not even considered at all. Nobody in any country in the world, can go to China and excavate their natural resources in such a way that will destroy their land. Who born that person! But African leaders and some greedy community leaders and even Nigerians that work with these Chinese companies will sell their souls and conscience for peanuts because they love money more than their own fellow Nigerians and the well-being of their citizens and environment.

It always saddens my heart when people that are indigenous to this community lives in delapitated house, with no clean water, electricity, school and health facilities, thesame thing happening Niger delta, why can't we learn from Saudi Arabia? My point is why are we so poor when we're the richest country in the world in mineral resources, our land flows with milk and honey when we talk about natural resources.

This Chief is culpable, he can't claim he's not aware of what's going on nor can he be denied ever getting a share of the agreement

What were the traditional leaders doing when the Fulanis started the mining in "colonies"? They should have fought back then, no matter who is aware and involved. They gave them paltry sums and they kept quiet. The community is not even benefiting......this is another kind of slavery.
