There's a policeman being beaten up by protesters at 37:19 Nah, you don't need to go that far, 1:40 already shows few protesters throwing bricks and molotovs, do you even watch like a minute into the vid? The video is littered with protesters destroying public property I dislike CPP as much Dan Smith over there, but he's being even more biased than Bloomberg. This vid is the most neutral one I've seen so far.

It is objective. However to complete the picture, US politicians (I.e. who potentially benefits most from this conflict) should also be interviewed.

I love Hong Kong, I can’t go back there this year be cuz of corona and this, like what the f*ck is this? This was where my ancestors were. And now the place they called home, is really a living hell. People in Hong Kong just wanna defend their home and they want rights. I miss Hong Kong, the food, the shops, the views, much more. I’m so heartbroken at what I’m seeing in this video. Unfortunately it still fails to explain why things got worse and worse over time, especially the past 2 months, though. According to numerous surveys conducted from time to time by universities and other credible organisations, roughly 65-70% of the Hong Kongers don't support the government and they simply loathe the police force, 20% or less are pro government and police, the rest stand in the middle. The bill probably contributes only 30% to the mess we see today. it was just the starter, I have yet seen one journalist from the west got the rest right yet.

@@eddiez5061 They'll only do something beneficial to the population if it also benefits themselves - like opening up to the world and letting people make money again (as long as they still have control one way or another) after Mao Zedong seized the means of production (and killed more Chinese people than any foreign power combined in the process). But if what the people ask for involves the potential for the CCP to lose even a bit of their authoritarian grip on power, it's a completely different story - and to stop people from demanding such things in the first place, they 'teach' their population from a very young age to be loyal to the communist party and push the toxic mentality which suggests that the communist party _is_ China and if you denounce them (the CCP) then you're denouncing all of China - which simply isn't true. Sidetracking a bit here but it also doesn't help that since they 'represent' China by ruling it, the media all over the world says "China did this, China did that" when something bad involving the communist party happens so even the less-political of the general Chinese population feel attacked as well even though they didn't get any say at all over what happened and then they get all defensive as a result and refuse to condemn their government's actions.

Yeah someone needs to let them know that a straight up democracy will only be favorable to them if their party constitutes the majority. The protesters seem to be very fond of America (waving our flag and singing our national anthem while they demonstrate), but if they want a government like ours I’m not sure exactly how they would institute a constitutional republic in Hong Kong.

@@KaileyB616 Actually most of them I think just fly the US flag to piss off the central government and other pro-CCP people, much like how they fly the old British HK flag and say that they'd rather be under their rules instead of that of the CCP. Some of course do call for the US to 'liberate' HK but when has 'liberating' places ever worked out for the US in recent times, lol.

It is! In cantonese it is 攬炒 (a term meaning frying a bunch of food altogether) that is used to mean taking down a much stronger opponent with tactics that may harm ourselves, because we have no other choice as a weaker force. Others think "you burn with us" is too passive, and doesn't show protestors' sense of agency. They translate the term as Phoenixism - the inevitable burning before we rise up stronger than before.

The city will not collapse with some broken facilities and glasses; it will collapse when it got stripped off its advantage: freedom, young talents, human rights etc. Protestors cannot destroy it, the gov and China can. Also, Hongkongers have been peacefully protests for many years for democracy and the gov has not hear a word but keeps disqualifying pro-democracy candidates . That's why now it escalated.

China shows restrain because they respect and honour the Sino British Joint Declaration, hence they didn't send troops to deal with those entitled protestors. Here is the sad part. What the hk protestors doesn't even realize is that they're being used by other countries to start tiananmen square 2.0. They're being mislead by fear and false promises. So I come up with an analyze. Please tell me what you think mate. It has help me understand tiananmen square a lot better. Why? Because hk protest and tiananmen square protest are very similar. Unfortunately even this bbg one is biased. It showed most dramatic action scenes by HK police, but what about the riots? What about the people beating civilians on streets and at the airport, hurting eyes of a policeman, etc.... we hk residents know what really happened. We can understand the peaceful protest, but any violent actions on the streets should be forbidden and these criminals should be put into prison no matter they are students or what!!! Everyone is fair in front of the law!

A few years ago I was chased by HK police when driving a car - an issue with parking. After some discussion, the sergeant let me off with a warning, and even an apology! This is how the police were known - civil and professional. Their position in the current situation is very compromised and difficult.

Theres nothing true about this.. The polices disguised as normal citizens and violently attacked their own people to frame the citizens for being violent. There were thousands of death of protesters who got abducted and their tortured bodies were framed to be and "suicidal" while they said they never want to suicide during the protest. It's interesting how Lai describe this thing "the first battle of a new cold war". Hmmmm who are in this new cold war then? China and US? So is Lai basically say they are the proxy and front line for the US to start the first battle? When hk is by their constitution part of China. So basically if they want independence I think they need first change the consititution. Don't talk about democracy and freedom and beating around the bushes. Don't be a coward just say you want to change the constitution and a referumdum for people to vote whether to stay in China or not. And then I'll repsect you as fighters. But I do think these middle and upper class people with dual nationalities are questionable and probably should only get half a vote since they pledge loyalty to two countries.

I m really curious to know if there is a referumdum, how many will vote to stay in China. And if they vote to leave do they have legitimate ground to be legally independent as their constitution says they are part of China. In order to change the constitution, they need to throw over the current government system and to do so they would need to first defeat the police and the troops stationed in HK. Now I guess the only answer to independence is war. How will HK PEOPLE choose? I bet they are too coward to do this lol. Finance industry wont breed fighters.

Don't be misled. This video is still biased despite presenting various sides. Bloomberg, being an American media, is obviously blaming China for the unrest in China. Why didn't Bloomberg investigate the ongoing interference by US and UK in aggravating the riot in HK?

Strange that it’s hard for people like Rita to see how these students and professionals could be organized so well. I wonder how? Jeez maybe because they’re smart, they’re educated, they’re passionate; they’re young kids who have grown up in a society far different from that of the mainland, they have the advantage of education, numbers, and the layout of the city itself. They’re little soldiers. Even if some of them know it’s hopeless they still fight. They have the highest integrity a human can really have. If one isn’t willing to fight for their own rights and freedom and for those around you then what is the point of life? They just want to be heard.

Withdraw the extradition bill is not the solution for answering criminal/killer who done his or her crime in Taiwan and flew back to Hong Kong without any prosecution. Can Hong Kong protesters be responsible for that?

And the process will be under severe scrutiny by Hong Kong court. Mind you most supreme court justices are British or dual citizens.

Hong Kong people always trying to.help their comards during they have difficult time during the China starvation, we did send many things back to the village you may not born but I still remember how my parents to send packages back to their families in.China. & we do donated lot of money during Sichuan earthquake，華東大水災etc…& of course Tinanman 8964, WE did a lot to help those students!
