The fact that natives want to serve this country after all that has been done to them and their ancestors just brings tears to my eyes. This SCREAMS PATRIOTISM. Thank u for your service

Most American soldiers come back from war with a ton of issues and they're just expected to quietly blend back into society. I think a ceremony like this might be a bridge and a place to begin healing and coming back mentally as well as physically. A beautiful tradition.

Mr.OR Mrs.OR Miss jan8919, wado for your KIND and RESPECTFUL comment about my proud First Nations, The Original Peoples, family😊. We are hardly thought of by MERE human beings, BUT The Lord God Almighty HIMSELF holds us also in the palms of HIS hands. There are even people who are not of the First Nations, The Original Peoples, who are truly shocked and scandalized to find out that we too are CREATED in The Lord’s IMAGE, AND that some of us are ACTUALLY born again, blood bought Christians and will be in Heaven with Jesus also. wado,Ann Benson.

For all the haters just remind yourselves, if it were not for our Choctaw, Cherokee (WWI), Navajo, Comanche, Assiniboine, Kiowa, Hopi, Chippewa & Oneida, Cree, Crow, Sioux, Sca & Fox, Mississauga, Menominee, Muscogee et al (WWII) CODE TALKERS, we would possibly all be speaking Japanese / German today, if allowed to even live! It took many to win WWI & WWII, my father received the Medal of Valor but the Code talkers went unnoticed, disregarded by the gov't. for too long. You dishonor them with your hate. Blessings to all of our native warriors!

I have served in the Navy as a Submariner and watching this video makes me proud to be a Native American. I remember my relatives butchering a sheep and we celebrated my return from the Navy but this homecoming is a bigger and better welcome for these fine Native brother and sisters. Proud to have served and setting an example to the rest of society that Natives are just as patriotic to this country.

Great warriors always, were and always will be. I’m a retired white army veteran and these people are proud and should be. They have a beautiful spirit about. Over the years I’ve read about the great warriors of many different tribes in American. They were all great Chiefs and had the best interests of the people at heart. Even in the face of overwhelming odds they showed no fear. I would say even the US Soldiers of that period had respect for their courage. To many times the government went back on their word. Very sad. Keep your spirit and great culture alive and pass it down to you young ones. Thank you all for you service. SFC USArmy Retired.

@Steve Hunt: The answer to that is that when treaties were signed with the US it was decided there was a need to continue the warrior condition. Since the treaties forbid having warriors in the traditional sense, the available option was for (at the time) young men to serve in the US military. The Navajo in particular wanted to serve with the most elite of the US warriors and chose the Marine Corps. The Navajo Nation has a long and proud history and tradition of distinguished service with USMC, not the least of which were the Code Talkers of WW II fame. In a time when there are few "heroes" to look up to, the First Nations members of the military are glowing examples. Despite the historic and continued poor treatment of their people they rise above it and show what it is to be an actual patriot! (BTW, while I have an ancestor from the late 1700's who was Cherokee I'm no "Elizabeth Warren." I in no way presume the privilege of identifying as Native American.)

Despite their oppression, despite their continued treatment as second class citizens, native peoples proudly and selflessly serve the US with honor and courage in the military. While I am certain that it does not tell the entire story I am continuously impressed by the unity, selflessness, importance of family and culture of the people of the first nations. On the other hand it seems as if most of the people in the country have become selfish, bickering jerks who feel entitled but owe nothing back to society. It does not bode well for the future of those of us who hail from the "second wave" of immigration if we do not change our ways and become more like our cousins of the first nations.

I'll never understand those people in either America or Canada that don't give the First Nations Indigenous Peoples the respect and equality that they so richly deserve and then some. From the very first "battles" "wars" in North America between the French and English or American and English the First Nations Indigenous Peoples have fought with us for the good of the lands. They were undeniably critical and indispensable in many wars especially WW2 with the "code talkers". To this very day they still fight for their homelands, and in my opinion deserve far more thanks, and recognition then they are given! I for one am grateful for everything they have done to help from the moment that Europeans first step foot on North America, up to today, and the future days to come. Even if I didn't have family that is of First Nations Indigenous heritage I would still support them. They have been used, abused, cheated and lied to by Kings, governments and corporations for far too many years, and deserve more of us that call ourselves Canadian or American to step up and support them, ensure that they are given the rights and respect they so richly deserve! I thank everyone of the servicemen and service women for their selfless sacrifices and everything that they did to ensure our continued freedoms and libraries!

I understand the Pride in honouring returned Warriors. This is celebrated by ALL First Nations for centuries. What I don't understand is why our Brave Brothers n Sisters chose to risk their lives for a country that couldn't careless about our place in history. When I listened to the Johnny Cash song " The Ballad of Ira Hayes" it upsets me to see nothing has changed since then. His image is immortalized forever in American history , but his Rez still lives in poverty to this day. I'm sure every Rez that has US military vets still has Elders living in 3rd world conditions.

Had the Privilege to serve with our Native Warriors throughout my career. They were the epitome of patriotism, heroism, warriors, and professionals. Despite all the atrocities committed against our FIRST NATION Americans, they served with the most dignity and professionalism of any Service Members I had the opportunity to serve beside. May the Great Creator, God Almighty, bless them and keep them. Amen. Much love and respect from me, and they deserve SO much more. They deserve more respect than most our here.

As a total white man, Irish American, I so appreciate our native brothers and sisters! And as life has it, my Grandson is Native American, Catawba Nation. I appreciate and honor these men and women.
