Special Ed Teacher Interview Questions and Tips for Success

Are you looking for some practice interview questions to prep for a Special Ed Teacher Interview? Well, we've got you covered!
Whether you just graduated or have a few years of teaching under your belt, this video will help you nail your interview! This video will walk you through SEVEN Special Education Teacher interview questions and answers. I will break down what you want to say and why. It will also tell you 7 things you should never say in an interview. These questions will work for a High School, Middle School, or Elementary School Special Education teaching positions and interviews.
I have sat in on so, so, so many teacher and aide interviews. I have see some good and some horribly bad... and I want to help you prepare for YOUR next big break with these teacher interview questions and tips.
Here are the question categories, which may help you better prepare:
1. Getting to Know You
2. Teacher Intent
3. Classroom Management
4. Instructional Strategies
5. Interpersonal Relationships
6. Problem Solving
7. Closing
Over the years, I have found that interview questions typically fall into these 7 broad categories.
Remember, play the video through once and actually practice your answers like you were in a real interview. Then watch the pointers section. Finally, replay the interview section and use your new polished responses to see how you do.
GOOD LUCK!!

Before watching this video I definitely did most of the mistakes you’ve shown. I was terrible at the teaching interviews and didn’t get any offers. After practicing with this video all night yesterday…I actually got a job interview! I used the questions you gave in the end for closing and they were impressed!!!!!!! Thank you so much! You don’t how much this means to me! I really needed to start my career as a single mom and recent graduate. Thank you!

I think the conflict one might be the hardest 🤔 I love your voice and clear structure in this video! I didn’t have much interview experience (only about 2 or 3 times) and always secretly had this deep fear that all my words will stuck in my throat during the interview or I couldn’t find the right words/sentences to make a point. Most of my friends said that I am the talkative kind of person, but somehow I stammered in interviews 😞

  • @NoodleNook

@Yuchen - Interviews are so hard and super stressful! They are totally nightmare worthy IF you are not prepared. If you have some good talking points in your head and feel like you're prepared, you'll do great. Technology questions are starting to be right up there too, so prep for that as well. Best of Luck🍀!

Hey @Ridda Butt - no matter what, you'll need a bachelor's degree. With the critical shortages in education, you can master in nearly anything and then complete an alternative certification program after graduation. Otherwise, yes, as you do your education coursework, look for classes that support teaching in special ed or make that your targeted focus. Either way, we're glad you'll be joining the ranks!

I thought the hardest question was the one about how do you handle conflict in your team.

Hey @Marus Chu - I would never disclose personal information about any health conditions in an interview UNLESS you think it will have a major impact on your ability to perform the job. I have known tons of teachers with ADHD who are perfectly capable of doing their jobs... so, unless asked directly (which would be weird), I wouldn't. -Good Luck 👍🏽

@@NoodleNook Thank you thank you! I got the job as a special education co- teacher for the 22-23 school year! My first interview was 3 weeks ago, then they called back a week later to schedule a second interview which got me so excited...then they wanted me to send them my college transcripts (because I applied at a different state), and they called me the next day and said there is an open position for me...YAY! Thank you for your help. I took notes from your videos as well as others but your videos helped me the most. Thank you!

@MMI GK - I wish I could... but the answers will be different depending on if you are applying for an ECSE, elementary, middle or high school job and if you are self-contained, push in, or pull out AND the severity of the students you'll be working with. Sorry. I hope the video at least gets you thinking about what may be asked and how you can answer. Best of Luck 🍀!
