Spearfishing Shallow Oil Rigs for Black Drum, Mangrove Snapper & Sheepshead from the Panga! CC&C

Ойын-сауық

The dive bender continues with another trip to the rigs here in the Gulf of Mexico! This go around we are at some shallower platforms closer to shore due to a choppy sea this day but we make the best of it. I try out a new speargun and we shoot some fish for the table.

Not that you'll ever read this, but when I was in the Caribbean the boat driver rigged up a lie and pulley system. We were set up near a buoy and he attached one end to the buoy and the other to the boat. It had about 10 lines hanging off it with snap clips on the end of each. As we shot fish, we would just swim to the line, clip the fish on the clamp, give it a tug and the driver would pull the fish in, pop it off and send it back out on the pulley. He said sometimes he would use it himself and either hang the fish if there were no sharks around or just feed the line through the pulley and when the rish got to the pulley, it's wide enough to allow the clip through, but not a fish, so it will pull the fish off the clip if you hang them by the tail

George is building one his guns for me. Had a chance to hunt with him in August and use the inverted roller. So much punch and so little recoil! Not to mention it's got such great handling.

Hey bud, welcome to the inverter world. Prob a bit overpowered for what you're doing but you can get away with a 3 band load on that thing and still get amazing power. Just cancel your single pulley load and stick to a 6 band set up. The trick would be to cook your pulley bands because the loading force gets halved. You can do small id or larger diameter on those two and the others as is. The trick to these are maintenance and correct rigging. They just put so much power down range with minimal recoil. Downside, rigging time. In shallow active zones, I would go with single roller, anything else where breath ups are needed, inverter. Great video, as always. Tell your bud to cut down some line on his roller, he has about a foot of untapped power in his Rob Allen.

Definitely was fully loaded this day! I was just wanting to get a feel for it shooting that was why I was loading all the bands.. if I know I won’t need it now I just leave a set or 2 unloaded.. Great insights in the single load as well to make it less effort to load.. I don’t mind how it’s setup but that would make it effortless. Again great insight on the zones as well. Definitely worth the extra time where there will be significant surface time in between shooting..

Really appreciate it! Also, I’ve told him he could tighten it up but he likes the ease of loading.

@@BradenSherron you got it man. If he is looking to keep the ease of loading while taking advantage of the whole length of the speargun, he should give hammerhead bands a try (progressive) they can stretch so much. If he ever decides to switch shafts then to a euro 4 fin tab with a rest tab smack in the middle. You can achieve a multi step load system, this way without having to drill into the barrel from the bottom to create a rest point. The upside is that you will never have rust and your wishbones will never have to be chnaged. Normally I just shoot inverters all the way through, but sometimes when the action is hot, you need something with quicker reloads times. Safe dives! Have an article on spearboard on the topic. If you're a tinker, it will help your guns max out to your likings. But from what I saw, your builder got his rope measurements on point (he is using the gun's length to the fullest. 💪) wasted space is untapped potential! Ps, I'm still trying to get used to the idea of putting away my loading aid without thinking I've lost it.

with your diving skills i think it would be cool if you could find a spiny lobster in our waters. apparently they do exist here in texas if the conditions are right, not sure if there are any reefs or rocky areas in the gulf to search for em. one giant one was pulled up attached to anchor from a charter boat in port A
