During the era they were founded there was a weird obsession in Britain about shells. They used them to decorate everything. Look up the shell grotto for a good example. Interestingly though the tongue twister is about Mary Anning an incredibly important palaeontologist who had to sell shells to continue her research, because she was a woman she wasn't allowed in the Geological Society and didn't get the credit for a lot of her work. Two random but linked facts 😊

This came out before hi ren. Argueably this one made him famous. This went viral on tiktok in 2020 so it’s a callback in hi ren. Hope this helps.

Just realized Ren says "start a corporation, make a logo, do it properly. Shells must sell..." the double entendra of sea shells and shell company's that are used to launder money 'legally'. Like WTF?!?

Specifically he's talking about Shell oil too, which did start off by selling sea shells and moved into EVERYTHING

Absolutely loved this.

What makes this extra for me is in the 1830's the Shell Trading Company (a seaside curio shop) began importing exotic shells to sell as bejeweled boxes etc. The owner, Marcus Samuel, was able to control and manipulate the import of supply which forced a greater demand. When his son's inherited they began selling kerosene and eventually they ended up renaming and becoming the Shell Oil Company. That's why the company today has a seashell as a logo. I have to believe Ren knew this... fascinating.

The live version of this one is cool but it only goes through the nursery rhyme and the chorus on a beach surrounded by seashells. 😊 This one is the full song. Although the live is perfect for the song i agree that this one is the one you should've reacted to.

I love the live version as well. Beautiful spoken word. For those who don't know, reason that most people ask for the lyric video first is that the live is about half the length as it's only the 'supply and demand' lesson. For those who haven't seen the live, it is well worth watching.

I’ve been watching your Ren reactions and really enjoyed all of them. I actually found Ren through reaction videos which I started mostly watching reactions to Tool songs. I was really surprised when I searched and couldn’t find you reacting to any Tool. With a self-professed Metal Head? You really should try one. Well done listening to us 😂 The live video is great, but it’s not the entire song so you had to check this one out first at least. I do recommend watching the live version too now. Whether as a reaction or on your own time is up to you, but it is worth a watch. Anyway Ren is a genius. It takes a very clever mind to explain a complex subject in a way that everyone can understand it. And then to do it using a nursery rhyme and in the form of rap? Ren is just on another level. And the hype for Money Game 3 is real.

Fun fact, I can't remember the company name, but they did exactly what he said in the song. They had loads of warehouses on an island and stocked em with diamonds until they became rare and sold for a huge profit. Also, shell gas company started as a dude selling exotic sea shells. When he died his sons took control and started selling oil Edit. It's De Beers

This is such a sick song. I heard 'Hi Ren' first but it's cool to see where that "She sells sea shells on the seashore" reference came from. There was a spot in there (about 5:26 in this vid) that reminded me of Handlebars by Flobots. Huge build up & then a drop that somehow feels even more epic.
