Speaking Fluent Chinese... in Japan: American Surprises Local Chinese Immigrants

Would you believe that I used to be really shy before learning Chinese and Japanese? Meeting someone one time and making a connection is great, but these interactions are even more meaningful when you can make a friend. Some of the Chinese people featured in my Speaking Fluent Chinese videos have become friends of mine. Find out which person is my new best friend because of the prank video. I finally got exposed doing these videos for the first time even all the way over here in Tokyo, Japan.

I like these interactions. Originally I made this channel for my family. Later on I wanted to fill in some spots Japan and China vloggers were missing. Now I’m doing a few language reaction videos. The channel continues to evolve. I hope to bring all of those things together well. There will be more videos focused on tips for language learning soon. -Anming

Oriental Pearl, it's a real pleasure to watch your vids. Thanks for sharing. I have a theory. It's not language related but in terms of experiencing different cultures, I think some of us are just naturally drawn to exploring and getting out in the world. I would even say it's something we're born with. I think some of us actually find a strange excitement in traveling to far away places alone. What do you think? Personally, I've been to at least 30 countries by myself and not once felt lonely or wished that I were with a bunch of my friends. Not saying I wouldn't travel with them which I already have but it's not a big deal If I don't.

I think they love you to respect them by talking fluent their language. But, I also saw that you talks continuously more than they expect... for example, They said from Shanghai, I think it will make them uncomforted by keep talking about what you know about Shanghai very much. how about try to find out more what they will inform about Shanghai and try to look excited :D.....anyway...you are absolutely so outstanding Chinese speaker.....Love it...:)

Another very interesting and strange thing is the very common abandoned, unlocked, and in good condition bicycles on footpaths and in shopping centre car parks. They seem to be collected and sent to Thailand. I wonder if there is a Japanese word for it. If you ride a bike, you should see them more, maybe because more distance is travelled, bikes are more maneuverable, and pass by those areas. Sometimes there are bikes that are so old, and actually virtually antique, that they have been there untouched for what seems to be decades.

Regular surgical masks are mainly just for those who are potentially sick to lower spread or healthcare workers in close proximity to acutely sick patients. N95 masks are a lot more effective protection wise but they also have to be custom fit and are supposed to be much harder to breath through.

@@maidoragonhs4573 The problem is, you don't know if you are already infected or not, unless you get test. There are people who have been infected but remain healthy. They do not experience symptoms like people who are exposed to the corona virus such as high fever, cough, runny nose and shortness of breath. Even so, they are carrier of the corona virus that can transmit it to others. This is certainly very dangerous, because the hidden carrier is like a normal person, but contact with them can make other people sick because of contracting COVID-19. I want to learn Japanese, but I struggle socially, so it kills my motivation and makes it difficult. I can read Hiragana and Katakana and several hundred kanji, but know extremely little in the way of conversational stuff. I'd love to be able to make these connections whilst visiting Japan, and part of me would like to take a sabbatical from work to live and teach English in Japan, but I worry I'd be even more lonely there than I am here. How was your experience when you moved to China? Were you lonely to start with, and did you have much knowledge of the language before you moved? Sorry for all the questions! Stay safe :)

  • @OrientalPearl

You could always start at a language school here. Then you can make friends with your classmates. I wasn't lonely in China because I worked at an English school and went to language school everyday. Later on, I started moving away from the expat community and made more local friends. That took about 1 year to do.
