Speaker Upgrade 2018 Honda Accord Stage 1

My 2018 Honda Accord gets a much needed speaker upgrade. A rockford fosgate component setup in the front and two way set up in the rear should help quite a bit. In this video, I do an overview of the setup as well as an install guide. The 2nd and 3rd stage will involve a sub install and amp for the speakers.

I have the same car, 2018 Accord sport. Once you put a sub in the trunk, you will know the difference. I simply went with 1 jl audio 10w3 and an alpine single channel 500 watt amp. I turned the lows off my factory speakers and raised the treble and the sound stage is awesome!

I run my factory EQ (2018 Accord Touring) at these settings for a modest improvement in sound with factory speakers: Treble 35% Mid-range 25% Bass 100% Subwoofer 100% Made a huge improvement in the stock system sound. To get more would require hardware changes and in line equilibration.

There os a PSI sound setting which can be turned off and it gave me significant sound improvement in my Touring 2019. kzread.info/dash/bejne/eWqjktyBitece7A.html But there is still a need for good base with 450 W factory amp 10 channel , I think replacing speakers would give a better mid base.

I think that Honda has gone cheaper in this generation Accord on both the amp and the speakers. On the 9th Gen, the speakers have much beefier magnets and amp has more punch. I upgraded the stock speakers in my daughter Honda Accord Sport with the Rockford Fosgate R1675x2 and R165x3 as well as adding a pair of Alpine 1" tweeters in the A pillar panel trim. The audio system now sounds a lot better with decent bass but the treble and vocal came through way better than the stock and the sound stage is terrific. I'd do a few things different to this 10th Gen Accord though if I was to upgrade it. I'd use the R1675x2 in the front and use the R1-TS tweeters to replace the stock tweeters. However, I would NOT hot glue the new tweeter to the OEM trim, just use some Gorilla or 3M tape to hold them in place, they are not going anywhere in that little pocket. More importantly, I would NOT cut into the OEM audio connector, you are risking warranty of your car. You can buy a couple of adapter cables from eBay to connect them to the new tweeters instead (I know, it is sucked that Crutchfield don't have them). Or do what I did, leave the tweeter connectors alone and tapped into the R1675x2 second set of speaker connectors and send the audio up the tweeters. This way, you don't risk any warranty with Honda and if you sell the car, you can put the old speakers back and keep your upgrade speakers for the new car. Last but not least, I'd use the R165x3 in the back where you could add better treble than the 2 way speakers. As for bass, there is nothing you can do with the OEM amp unless you replace the entire head unit. A better way is to add an 8" compact powered sub from JBL, Blaupunkt or Bazooka bass tube behind the rear seat and you should have plenty of bass. There is no need for stage 3 as far as I am concerned in such a small car unless you are doing a competition system.

Hi thx for this informative post. A couple of thoughts. The original Honda Accord door tweeters had an orange capacitor, visible in your your tube video, to limit the frequency to the tweeter which is from a shared line going to the door woofer. Not replacing that cap in the new tweeter could eventually burn out that tweeter because it is receiving the same full-range info which is going to the door speaker. I am a bit surprised it is working as well as you explained in your video. I bought an fairly expensive set of door speakers with separate tweeters from Crutchfield which included their own crossover. The Crutchfield tech rep highly recommended using these external crossovers, because of that capacitor on the original tweeter. Secondly, the Crutchfield tech rep also recommended putting foam speaker backers on the door woofers but also said I should cut the back to not restrict airflow too much. The helps direct the sound into the car and not into the interior door panel. Thirdly, they also recommended Hushmat Wave Breaker Kit be placed on the interior metal door, directly behind the door speaker to eliminate reflection on the back of the door speakers from the metal. It is a sound-deadening pads for speaker back waves. These may have made a difference in your install. Lastly, you should have used foam strips on the back of the speaker to insulate it a bit from the plastic mounting ring. I'll be installing mine next week. Also bought a higher-end replacement 3 1/2" midrange speaker for the dash speaker behind the display. In my opinion, this is the "problem" speaker which make the whole system sound hollow and the midrange is irritating. However, interested if you have installed another amp and sub, etc.

Of course you need decent amps for the system to work properly... :) Amps are often the most important component. Not only do you need enough power to drive the speakers (180W is a joke), dedicated amps also provide a much more "pure" signal. You should definitely consider a 4-channel amp for the front system (one channel per speaker) and a separate mono amp for the woofer. You should also consider using High/Low pass filters to fine tune the signals going into the speakers in the front.

You DO NOT have to cut the tweeter harness. Just run a new wire from the mid woofer to the tweeter. On this set, there's two positive and two negative connections.

You need better quality speakers up front. I've used JL C5 using the OEM hu in a 07 Accord and it sounded excellent. Note, the install is key, I would highly recommend a complete sound deaden door. Use foam between speaker and bracket and door.

I've given you gladly the Like for your honest opinion. Of course there would be an improvement regarding the highs (obviously due to better tweeters), a little bit better mid-range and no improvement in the lower section of the spectrum. And why? Simply because all after market-speakers (components/coaxials etc.) are thought out for setup with a) proper amplification, b) proper frequency filters (HPF etc.) and c) subwoofer to take over the base. It is a TOTAL misconception that after-market speakers will transform just like that SPL and/or sound quality of a system. Nice video though! So, keep up!

I’d just go with a sub modified to fit the trunk to look factory. Only thing lacking to me is the lows. I don’t need huge bass like my younger years. Maybe a 8-10” sub should do the trick.

i think it's due the stereo head unit and not the speakers themselves. you will need an amplifier to get the most out of aftermarket speakers. the head unit EQ'd to be a little bass heavy; so aftermarket speakers will have a noticeable gain in treble. I've bought the same rockfords too, and i returned it all because i didn't want to drop money on an amp.

I've done an upgrade and I just want to say that you will need to remove the ANC from behind the glove box to comlete the upgrade or you will have feedback whenever you accelerate. The car has crap plastic that's not installed with noise insulation so you will need to look into padding to reduce rattle once the sub is installed or you will not like how much rattle comes when the bass hits. If you want a diagram let me know and I'll post it for you.

GarageProjects crazy right but glad your finally rockin. I found that even though I always told friends I was too old for sounds, when I got this car it was a must have. My wife has a 2018 Civic top of the line and the sounds are still crap and I had a 2018 CRV yesterday (loaner from dealer) and I found the sounds to be the same. Don't be shocked that after a month you will upgrade to a better amp and subs because you can always turn it down if u buy too much but if it's not enough it's just not enough.

Some Infinity Primus or JBL GTOs might have worked better as the have a higher sensitivity and a lower impedance giving more power to speaker output...good luck on your project!

Hello! I just recently traded in my 2016 Accord for the 2018 Accord. I had a customer built fiberglass box that was built into the spare wheel well hidden away 12” Type R Alpine along with amps and interior Alpine speakers upgrade. Sad to say I’ve been without my music for about a month now and I’m going CRAZY. I’m tired of waiting on my boyfriend to get started on this project, what size door speakers did you use? Did you have to buy the kit separately? What size speakers will I need for the rear? If you put new speakers in without an amp they are still running off the stock head unit power. Meaning you really wont get much of a difference at all. The stock head unit is only meant to power the stock speakers. So when you put better speakers in there with the same power you are depriving them of the power they need. You wont get really any better sound without an amp.

What do you want to know about doing the rear deck speakers? I just did mine on a 2019 accord sport and there is really no way to get a video unless someone was to video a piece here and there then edit. That would turn a 2 hour job into 2 days Any questions just ask. I have install instructions from a reputable car audio retailer. They include how to remove receiver, front door speakers, rear deck speakers and even includes wire color codes. Good stuff and very useful.

Dude, you skipped the wiring of the door speaker. You don't just put the speaker in the door without hooking it up. Why was there 4 wires in the speaker harness? There's usually only two.

6.5 inch front and rear. Use a good 2 way with a minimum 91db sensitivity and a good component in front with 91 to 93db sensitivity.. disconnect your ANC module then hear the difference..

But my map lights are super bright because I replaced them with LEDS that have 9 leds in each light. So a total of 18 leds and its superrrrrr bright. Almost too bright. These right here light up the entire cabin. www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/wedge-bulbs/921-led-bulb-9-smd-led-disc-miniature-wedge-retrofit-car/2833/

Hey I am just wondering what octane gas do you put in your Honda Accord? Also where do you purchase your gas from. I have a 2018 Honda Accord LX 1.5T and I am averaging 23-26 mpg on 87 octane which isn't even close to the advertised 30 city/38 Highway. Any suggestions on improving MPG?

I use 87 octane gas in the Maryland area. My terrain is relatively flat. If you live in a mountainous region, that will definitely affect your mpg. Driving habits and tire pressure also have a big influence on mpg.

Drive more on the highways, learn to coast when you know the light is red instead of keeping foot on gas then braking when close. Spend less time idling as u will get 0mpg

  • @williamherridge7728

    @williamherridge7728

JJ Gloster I went with 2-way in the rear because 1. I don’t sit back there, so I could save money with cheaper speakers, and 2. The highs are just going to bounce off the glass anyway, so I don’t know that there would be enough benefit to justify the extra cost.
