    hi kirby you tube suggested you channel cause like to look for diy videos since i dont have the money to pay for courses l love leaning to make things and making my own tools when i cant buy them. your im naturally mechanically inclined and enjoyed making mistakes when im learning to build things. i made speakers boxes but i always just replicated what was out there since i did not know much of how they work so in my journey to learning how they work and how to power them im am privileged to enjoy and learn from your site thank you. this fell out of the sky awesome

    Dude you have a good personality for videos (no man love perceived or intended). Love speakers, building speakers, listening to music myself. Always been a huge passion of mine since reading my first Radio Shack guide to building speakers like literally 32 years ago. Keep the good stuff coming, and a BIG thanks for all the goodies!

    Kirby Meets Audio Thanks for giving away plans for free, because I am a guy that works a lot with wood and electronics, but never connected the two together, and don't know how am I going to do my first project. Getting a plan for free means I can try it out and then if I do good with my project I will buy more of them. Which is a good marketing move by you sir and I applaud it. Anyways keep up the great work!

    Hi Kirby, Thanks so much for releasing these plans for free, I've had a similar idea for an active / driving a separate passive speaker for a while now so it's great to see how you've done yours in detail. I have one question: The plans say you use 1" x 6" timber but show the side thickness as 3/4" are you planing it down at some point?

  • @KirbyMeetsAudio

    @KirbyMeetsAudio

    8 жыл бұрын

    Hey Richard! Most lumber yards and home centers will use a "nominal" system of sizing the wood. The "actual" size of the 1" x 6" board that is needed for this project is 3/4" x 5 1/2" or very close to it. I'm not totally sure why they do it this way, I think it has something to do with the size before they are finish plained to actual thickness or before the wood is dried or something. Here is a simple chart that can help: www.familyhandyman.com/carpentry/making-sense-of-lumber-dimensions/view-all Thanks for watching!

    Hey Kirby! New sub here (I'm Jules by there way, nice to meet you ; ) ! I'm a fellow speaker DIYer an dI fell in love with your videos, your speaker!! (dat wood!!) , and I guess... you! (no weirdness intended...) I enjoy watching you build speakers and I'm looking forward to see more! I have been wanting to do a project with the Dayton PS95 for a little while now and you are one of the few to use it. I'm curious as to how it reach up in treble town? Anyway, keep it up, you are an inspiration! Peace

    Hey Jules! Thanks so much! The PS95 sound great from low mids through the highs. Being a very small driver, the lows are lacking, but they make a great addition to a 2.1 system.

    Size of enclosure definitely matters. It matters much more in a vented enclosure compared to a sealed enclosure.

    Really understood the sound test part, I feel the same about that risk that people will listen thru the laptop speakers. But, the guys that understand how things work they will use at least some headphones for that... again, it is not the real thing, depends on many things (like the mike)... yet I miss the "hmm..yami" One question, how do you know what size of enclosure you need for certain speakers?

  • @KirbyMeetsAudio

    @KirbyMeetsAudio

    8 жыл бұрын

    I feel ya! Thats a good point about the headphones. There really is no standard volume size for certain speakers, it fully depends on the application and enclosure type. Sometimes, whoever is selling the speaker (like Parts Express does this) will have recommendations for optimal cabinet volume for both ported and sealed. The best way though, is to use modeling software to test a range of sizes. There are also some calculators out there that can help. I'll be doing a video on this in the future. Thanks!
