💜 ABOUT ME:
Hi and welcome! I'm Tanya and the only thing I like more than learning languages is probably talking about learning languages (well, that and hoarding language books).
My native language is Russian and I'm currently in different stages of learning English, Spanish, Polish, Italian, Korean, and Japanese.

    In my humble opinion, using Dreaming in Spanish and Lingq for input-based learning is not only a fun way to learn Spanish, it's also very efficient, and starting at an intermediate level, you can start learning some grammatical concepts you haven't naturally acquired yet. Cross-talk or regular exchanges with native speakers (via Hellotalk/tandem/hilokal) will boost output skills in no time. But maybe it's just me not wanting language learning to look like an academic project. Anyway, I love your video, you seem to be born to share content because your way of presenting information is fantastic. 😍

    Thank you so much 💜 Also, what you’re saying makes perfect sense! For me, I enjoy a balance between a more traditional approach to learning and input-based language acquisition, which is why I’m working on a video about immersion resources for Spanish right now where both LingQ and Dreaming Spanish will be mentioned :)

    I started learning Spanish 3 weeks ago and I complete agree with your point on how DUOLINGO and Memrise made me feel less overwhelmed. I started off buying and beginner textbook realising it wasn’t meant for self study and all the exercises were quite difficult, it was a cheap efficient way to get started

    Super happy to watch your new video! I feel that there is not so much content on KZread about using textbooks and doing language courses so it’s refreshing to see how you used them with your learning. I too like to learn from them, my experience is that they help me to develop the skills I need to use the language. While having interesting content is important, I feel that the usual advice to learn things you are passionate about does not work for me because they do not equip me to have the usual conversations in the language. E.g. I am not very passionate to learn to describe my home town in the target language but that is the thing that everyone wants to talk about. Text books and courses have helped me to prepare for the not so interesting topics that will pop up when using the target language.

    Tanya! This is a great video. I'm so happy to see a student recommend resources like Gramática Básica (The English version is called Students Basic Grammar of Spanish and is identical), or ProfedeELE. They're definitely the highest quality materials out there, but they're not well known by students. But they're the go to for most teachers (like me). SpanishDict is also fantastic, so many useful features. Thanks for sharing such valuable information for people looking to learn Spanish.

    Hi Tanya, I really enjoyed your video! I was curious to know if the Gramática de uso del español textbooks also had an option to listen to the material. And if not, which textbook we’re using in the at 4:26? It looked like you were listening an audio of some sort while also using your textbook

  • @tbenavente

    @tbenavente

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Kaitlyn! Gramática de uso doesn't have audio which is why I'm hesitant to recommend it as a primary textbook - I think it works best as a supplement to a more comprehensive book. The book you're referring to is this one: tiendaonline.cga.es/ficha.php?codigo_comercial=1182180. It focuses on vocabulary, but the publisher also has similar books for grammar, phonetics, writing, etc. I actually have a couple of their books and I show them in this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nXWB2LqHaLvVmqg.html. Grammar books from that series do come with audio.

  • @tbenavente

    I’d say most of these are definitely for European Spanish (because that’s what I was focusing on), but Campus Difusión has books and articles for Latin American Spanish too. As for courses, I didn’t really consider other options because my partner was getting his master’s degree at Universidad Carlos III in Madrid at the time, so I just signed for a Spanish course there.

    I don't understand why you recommended Beginning Spanish Grammar by McGraw Hill. Based on your recommendation I searched for copies for sale online. I was able to read a sample and I noticed it listed numerous Spanish words but didn't give English translations. Pictures were provided for a few words but it's not always obvious what word is meant from the picture (moreover most words don't have pictures). And this was right at the beginning of the book. I hardly think a book that doesn't provide English translations for Spanish words is appropriate for a beginner. In that respect Complete Spanish Grammar from the Practice Makes Perfect series is better as it does provide English translations.
