si en general el español es dificil me parece que en mucho sentidos el español es muy complejo pero hay otras cosas que creo que el Inglés es muy complicado como por ejemplo escribir ya que no tienen nada que ver con lo que suena en muchos casos.

Aunque el verbo "andar" sí que tiene muchos otros significados, no había notado lo mucho que lo usamos como: -Me anda del baño = I need to go to the bathroom xD

So happy that you finally uploaded this video! I had watched the ingles 101 one and it was really good ❤ I have to say that this is a very comprehensive class since you cover a lot of important things to learn about Spanish, but I think you should slow down a little bit more because we (the beginners) need to understand for a moment about the meaning of what you're teaching. Being as in your usual pace is actually fine but to be honest, it's not that easy for us to understand really quickly. Anyway, what you've done in this class has been so great and I can't wait for the other classes (especially related to the tenses ones! - it's kinda hard to learn it on my own, so I literally am waiting for your upcoming classes 😊). Seriamente me encanta tu canal porque aprendo muchas cosas muy importantes. Hi Holly, I’m a Hispanic Linguistics masters student and I’ve fallen in love with your channel and you’ve opened my eyes to how valuable a language input source Spanish language youtubers can be! There are lots of your videos that I will probably recommend to my students. I’d like to suggest/request that you do a video on accentuation rules in Spanish (diptongos, hiatos, vocales fuertes y débiles [more accurately abiertas y cerradas], etc.) I have my own way of teaching it and have also found a couple videos I like, but you are SO charismatic and comprehensible when you teach, I think you’d do a great job with it. On another note, I would avoid the permanent/temporary dichotomy for explaining ser/estar. Eres joven is not permanent and está muerto is not temporary, for example. More widely accepted approaches in cognitive grammar are objective/subjective and classifying/non-classifying. But of course, for sake of time I don’t blame you for just saying the classic permanent/temporary. I have been watching your videos all weekend and am so impressed and delighted! Your insight and your mastery of both languages are incredible! And your jovial, kind character to boot. Thank you!

Ironically, I was just out running errands when I heard someone telling their child running (cerrando) was not allowed in the store. I knew cerrando referred to running, but needed more information to fully understand what I heard. This video was serendipitously in my feed. Excellent lesson.

La verdad Holly, me he dado cuenta lo importante que es mirar estos videos en inglés también. Aprendés muy buen vocabulario, y te ayuda a ver la forma en que hablan los angloparlantes y te ayuda a meterte un poco más en el idioma tan bello qué es el inglés. En lo personal yo aprendí solo inglés mirando series y leyendo los subtítulos y todavía me cuesta muchísimo la escritura y algunas reglas gramáticales :(

Para la duda, es preferible usar el subjuntivo, aunque hay casos en donde es aceptable usar el indicativo.

J G perhaps it's that in Mexican Spanish, every single letter is pronounced. Unlike... let's say... Puerto Rican Spanish. When she speaks English, I noticed that she enunciates every single letter in every English word. That's something that most Americans don't do. It's not a negative criticism for Holy (she speaks Spanish AND English better than I can!), it actually sounds very clear.

theknightof86 really? She sounds to me very clear when she speaks english, maybe its because in spanish you have to pronounce things exactly as they're written. She may had adapted that habit to her english without noticing. Anyway it was a very interisting fact to know lol

¡Muchas gracias Holly! Me alegro mucho que mencionas "vos". En el secundario estudié español y aprendí que en España la gente usa "vosotros" pero nunca había aprendido "vos". Pues, el año pasado vivé en El Salvador y la gente usa "vos". Y mi maestro mi dijo que andar significa mucho y puedes usar "andar" para decir, "going out" (as in dating/in a relationship). Olvido cómo se usa. "Andan juntos", quizás. Y muchas gracias por tu explicación de "gustar". Lo sabía que necesité decir "me gusta" y no digo, "yo gusto" pero nunca había escuchado una explicación como tuyo. Nunca he preguntado a alguien "¿te gusto?" (not in Spanish anyways haha) así que no sabía que podría decir "gusto". Solo conocí las formas, "gusta, gustan, y gustas" y siempre estaba pensando, ¿Porque es tan raro? Pero ahora, todavía es raro pero no es tan raro. ¡Hay una estructura! Jajaja ¡Gracias Holly!

+John David Haws Cada uno de esos dos idiomas tiene sus particularidades, véase si no en inglés el maravillosísimo mundo de los phrasal verbs, por ejemplo. Y también la riqueza de vocabulario, ya que el inglés es un idioma sin complejos que no duda en tomar préstamos de otris idiomas en un pis pas. Como soy española, por si alguien quiere un poquito más de terminología, lo que nosotros hacemos en la segunda persona tanto de singular como plurar es distinguir entre el tuteo (hablar de tú) y hablar de usted. Esto consiste básicamente en que cuando utilizamos usted (2 p sg) cambiamos a las terminaciones verbales de la 3a persona del singular, y su utilizamos "ustedes" para referirnos a la 2 p pl, cambiamos en el verbo a las terminaciones de la 3a persona del plural. La diferencia de uso radica en el grado de respeto Y sobre todo de distancia que se quiere establecer con el otro. Usted/es es mucho más respetuoso. Y ahora una curiosidad para Holly y el resto de hispano-hablantes. Vivo en el sur de España, y en el área en el que vivo es muy, pero que muy corriente oír "ustedes sois", ustedes corréis mucho para mí", etc. Y además ese uso de ustedes es familiar, es decir, no expresa distancia. Así que...¿cómo os quedáis ustedes? :) Ni que decir tiene que los extranjeros que vienen a aprender inglés a esta parte de España sudan tinta china. Un beso a todos y a Holly, me resulta muy curioso ver cómo ven los ingleses las peculiaridades de nuestro idioma.

Dato para los que están aprendiendo español: No se sorprendan si en Argentina pronuncian diferente el "yo" (la "y" en la mayoria de las veces se pronuncia como en el italiano),va a ser la conjugacion igual. Pd para los latinos: Aprovechen escuchar a Holly hablando en ingles porque nos ayuda xd

Last week I was also thinking about how the verb gustar goes in a different direction than the rest of the verbs in spanish. It's quite crazy that to be honest.

Actually, there is one more way to look at it, using the regular verb conjugations. For example: Tu gustas de una buena comida. You like/enjoy a good meal. Yo gusto de la buena música. I like good music. Notice the 'de' after the verb 'gustar', the conjugation is the regular form. However, if you say it this way is sounds you are trying to be a snob. It sounds more informal/normal when you say it like Holly explained. Spanish can get very complicated.

Hi superholly, I just discovered your channel a few days ago and I love your teaching, you don't sound as a foreign girl when speaking Spanish, you sound as a Latin woman xD Well I just wanted to add some information if you give me the chance, I will try to express my best in English, I'm from El Salvador, the country next to Guatemala going to the south , our country is called "the little thumb of america" since we are the smallest country in the continent, but going back to the point, when people say "I'm walking the dog" I think the verb "pasear (paseando)" suits better the verb "walk", "Estoy paseando a el perro (I'm walking the dog)" I think that's the way people say that most commonly in spanish, like expressing that you are giving it, the dog, a casual trip somewhere around by walking with it. And with the expression " hola holly, Que andas haciendo?" You could say that the feeling poeple want to express is " Hi holly, what are you doing now" trying to make a little chat at the moment in order to interact with you for a moment and hoping that you will share with them some information about what you are doing at the moment, errands, etc, maybe this sounds rude or impolite, it could sound like the person is nosy haha but this situation happens most of the time when you see someone you know and he or she knows you too and you feel there's some confidence between you so you feel free and comfortable saying that to him or her, and you know he or she won't get mad by hearing that from you. And that's it, that's what I think about that, your explanations in English issues are helping me to improve my English keep going!! you are a great teacher and if there are more things you want to accomplish try and do it you are SMART 👍 in case you have more dreams. Just one more thing I want to express xD, in your videos I realized that the Z sound in English is like a little buzz while in Spanish the Z sound is like the the "TH sound" of the word "Think" 😱 totally different.....

HOLLY! Mucho gusto! I am so happy I found your youtube channel. I have Spanish roots but my grandma stopped teaching her kids Spanish to avoid them being teased. Fast forward to present day, I am dating a Native Mexican and living next door to his parents; his mom only speaks Spanish so I knew it was my time to learn. I have come a looong way and I LOVE Spanish (along with Mexico, como tu). One thing I struggle with is learning WHY things are said the way they are. When I ask the family, they shrug their shoulds and say "that's just the way it is" - not helpful when you are learning lol. Muchas gracias para hablas en espanol y ingles. Eres una persona bonita. Hopefully, I said that right :)

I loved this video! Would you consider doing another Spanish 101 (esp for conjugating verbs)? I love the way you explain things :D

Superholly lo mejor que pudo haber pasado en el idioma inglés es de que los verbos no cambian como en el español entiendo que eso para ustedes pudo haber sido muy difícil aprenderlo porque cada tiempo cambia con cada persona pero también el inglés es muy difícil a veces hay conjugaciones que yo me las conjugo Jajaja en mi mente y después me doy cuenta que están mal conjugadas conjugadas osea cada palabra traduzco Y aveces me salen al revés todas las palabras pero gracias a ti estoy aprendiendo a comprender el inglés porque si es un reto muy grande especialmente si estás en Estados Unidos y no lo hablas aún no lo hablo lo entiendo un poco lo escribo algo y puedo leer pero me hace falta mucho mucho más que aprender

Kevin Melgar Estoy aprendiendo español y tienes razón... Las conjugaciones fueron la muerte de mi, jaja. En inglés es tan fácil. Llevo unos tres años con español ahora y estoy acostumbrada a los verbos ahora, pero me tomé más de un año a llegar a este punto. ¡Vale la pena! Aunque aún tengo mucho más que aprender. :)

Nahu Arce Claro que los verbos son parte fácil del inglés pero lo demás ni se diga es muy difícil además los sonidos no son muy claros hay demasiados sonidos parecidos los cuales en el español están bien escritos bien pronunciados que no hay forma de confundirlos

Court Ro cuando tenía 6 años mi profesor me ponía a conjugar a veces nos ponía hasta 20 verbos para conjugar de tarea y no lo puedo negar a veces me costaba Porque todos los verbos cambian

I have cleft palate so I have some speech problems, when I was little I had speech therapy, mainly for r’s and l’s, but they kicked me out because I was “too old” (which is ridiculous) and it’s really hard for me to pronounce double r’s and I can’t speak Spanish quickly because of it it’s frustrating

Hi Yass Queen! I hope you don't give up, I'll be praying for you to continue practicing Spanish, and most of all, I'll be praying for you to be a successful fluent Spanish speaker. I'm Mexican, I think Holly is an amazing English/Spanish teacher/young woman. Thank God, I've learned a lot with her videos. Most of times I understand what I read, what I listen in English, but when it's about speaking fluently, I do it translating literally from my thoughts in Spanish 😢, and that is my obstacle. I'd like to recommend you an interesting KZread channel, in Spanish, so you keep listening more and more, and I'm sure that if we continue studying, speaking, practicing, without giving up, day by day we'll be better with our second languages 😃. kzread.info I also like to read books or articles in English, but most of all, I like to read the Bible. When I lose my patience while studying English, I read the story about Moses. Have you heard about it? He had speaking troubles, especially when he was sent to Pharaoh to deliver the people of God from the slavery in Egypt. Please let me share this couple of Bible verses: Exodus 4:10,11 10 And Moses said unto the Lord, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue. 11 And the Lord said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the Lord? Wow! When I read this, I think and I'm convinced that Our loving God who created us, can help us to learn not only a second, but a lot of other languages and interesting things 🤩. I just introduced my fiancé to your videos. He is Mexican-Canadian. He was born in Mexico and has lived here most of his life, BUT living always in places where people would only speak english, so there is um, room for improvement, specially in verb conjugation.
