Cheering on the bull still promotes the contests. The bull always loses. It is no fight, just plain cruel. Tourjsts are just putting money into the coffers. ALL animal 'so called' sports, should be banned Worldwide. Introduce Bull Ballet, where artistic persons fly/jump over the bull. No bull gets hurt, but a small risk to the human. 🙏🙏

As Bourdain said about bull fighting “I’d happily see it end tomorrow” It’s a brutal tradition, and it is cruel. But I could see people being upset about the government trying to do away with it.

I've been to Mexico and always felt safe and welcomed as a tourist. It's important to understand that the issues surrounding cartels rarely affect visitors. Tourism is a major part of Mexico's economy. Cartels are not interested in harming tourists as their don't intervene in their drug operations. Of course, it's always wise to exercise common-sense precautions as you would in any unfamiliar place, but don't let fear overshadow the incredible experiences Mexico has to offer. It's truly a beautiful country with so much to see and do.

Lots of Irish bars everywhere. Here in Lanzarote there are several in Costa Teguise and loads in Puerto del Carmen. Food is based on potatoes, cabbage and normal Brit food. The island is very lively on St Patrick's day.

Had some marvellous to bull fights here in the 1980s . The meat is given out to all the poor people & to resident elderly homes . At least the Bull stands a better chance of surviving, than the Animals that you eat on your Sunday roast & Mc Donalds .

Does any one remember the big airport and urbanizacion boom? Young adults and teens were dropping out of school to make money in the construction boom...now we have airport and housing complex grave yards.

The tunnel is not going to happen. It needs to be too deep and steep incline for it to be practical and it is also a significant earthquake zone which means you can add a few zeros to whatever cost assessment they come up with.

You couldn’t pay me enough to watch the butchery & torture of an animal - and they call it a sport! I realise it is part of Spanish culture but it is just plain cruelty.

I am not into forbidding things other people like doing, including bullfighting. As somebody says, whenever the "fiesta de los toros" is not a good business it will be gone; or maybe not, I can imagine many "aficionados" would keep it, even enduring losses. So, I don't see it going away any time soon, with or without public funding. In my case, I find it mainly boring since my father watched "corridas de toros" on TV (I wanted to watch cartoons). I grew up with it as a normal thing of our national cultural background, from a distance, although I have to confess once being in a bull ring, seeing the bull punished just meters away, I did not enjoy it at all. However, you can call it an art, it is quite complex, difficult and refined, not easy to judge its nuances if your are a layman on the subject, but I find it brutal at its core. Nevertheless, you would be wrong if you think "aficionados" are bad, sadistic, cruel people; the focus is not on the bull's death or its suffering (if the bullfighter makes the bull suffer too much the public does not like it, the fight has its rules). Also, the bull enjoys a much better life roaming free the countryside for 4 years, much better than a cow intended to be slaughtered anyway.

Even with your own negativity regarding Benidorm Brits love going there 🙂 Never visited myself but just for a change we have booked 10 days next April at the Levante beach end Looking forward to visit the cross up suicide hill by ebike 🙂 Usually we are in Gran Canaria or Fuerteventura .Fuerteventura is a great island to visit as is very laid back and not the rowdy type of holiday associated with drunkeness of holidaymakers .This year we are having a break and going to Rhodes as our family group with lots of youngsters do like a resort with a good waterpark to keep the kids happy .Tourist areas in Mexico are usually gated been there about 6 times with no issues to report days out visiting the Mayan ruins was a good trip didn't see any Cartel members around the ruins .Its like London is dangerous chance of knife crime escalating daily so never visit as it costs £12.50 to even drive into London these days .Irish bars in Lanzarote serving lovely cold Guinness the food is just the normal food you would find in the English type pubs .I think that would be Playa Blanca Stuart

My parents were from Mexico, I’ve travelled there a few times, my husband’s family is from El Salvador, I must say I have felt safer traveling around El Salvador than in my own ancestral land. My family and friends have being going to ( and living at times in) Mexico for decades, of course there are places that are more dangerous than others but where in the world does a country have a place (s) that do not. Mexico is a big country and places like Merida and others in the Yucatan pennisula and throughout are consistently voted among the safest cities in the world but that never seems to make headlines. Given the criteria of what makes a place dangerous many in the good ole U.S of A would make that list yet folks go about and live their lives everyday without incident. Unfortunately drugs are part of the supply and demand chain and that will always lead to crime. Also the over tourism and some anti sentiment can be felt there too...I think any where there is tourism eventually feels the pinch....Ahh life, huh?

I always thought that although I couldn't watch it, it is Part of Spanish Culture and that would be for the Spanish People to decide. I personaly would not ever watch it as I would see it as cruel and we have enough cruelty in the world as it is. I do think the matadors look handsom in their outfits. Maybe they could fight a real life size, AI bull that would be spectacular and scary too.

I would agree with you, Stu that Mexico is way more violent than Spain. My dad side of the family is from Mexico, not a border town, and I am unable to go see my family in Mexico because it’s not safe for me as an American. My Tia has warned me if I go that I would probably be kidnapped and killed.

Nothing wrong with what you said about Mexico. It isn't safe, you do have to be very careful. Well I guess that is almost anywhere you go. You just have to use common sense as to where to go and where to stay, don't think oh I'm a foreigner I'm safe. Uhmmm, so no matter where you go, just be careful. Hi Stu, much as I dislike bull fighting my priority is the needs of people eg. Jobs, food and housing.

Alicante is really nice city that reminds me of Albuquerque, NM , but some shady dealings go on when you're a tourist just like anywhere else with organized crime allegedly and a lot of vitriol with tourist be safe.

I saw a half-British who doesn't like bullfights eating one's tail yesterday. My nephew. Bull's tail is a typical Spanish stew recipe. Give it a try.

@@erickwillum2979 I didn't know it. It looks delicious too. It has to be an I don't know how to say gravy?-dense soup because the tail has a lot of collagen. Tail meat merits the same as the rest of the ox and deserves something better than a soup as thick as the British skies. From the Spanish point of taste.

I'm tired of listening people repeating what the politicians say amd blame airbnb for housing shortages. Entrepreneurs are always ready to supply more housing unless a level of government puts limits on construction, often with zoning laws but it can be other laws as well. Government is to blame for all shortages in a country unless the material is not available or if a geographic location is fully developed and landlocked by geography

Hi, you are right Stu, Im argentinean living in europe for the last 24 years, in Wales Uk now. Not even for free I would go on hollidays to Mexico ( and lots of southamerican countries ). I have traveled a lot. People in europe have not a clue how little your life could worth in other countries and compare Spain with Mexico. That's why sometimes hollidays there are so cheap ( maybe you won't come back ) and they don't undestand it

I don't understand why someone would be afraid of British and Irish restaurants, but there's high end restaurants in Ireland that you must be 16 and over to attend know children aloud =really pricy and gourmet. The Irish actually invented the scone and Shepard's pie and beef stew after all. The Aussie's actually invented to the roadkill restaurants and kangaroo tail stew not Outback Steakhouse.

You nailed it about Mexico Stu! My husband was born & raised at Brownsville, Texas area which is a border town to Mexico. His 1st language is Mexican Spanish. When we go back to visit family there every year we never, and I mean NEVER cross the border! It doesn’t matter how ‘Mexican’ you may look, the Cartel knows if you’re American & will ‘leverage’ that. Plus with my blond hair, green eyes & pasty white skin, I have a “Ransom Me” written on my back! No Thank You.

It's nothing to do with market forces, it's a tradition. I too detest unjust over-reaching government, but a good government would step in and end needless animal cruelty organised purely for entertainment purposes. A similar issue is fox hunting in England, but at least there is a pest-control reason there, and the foxes at leats have a chance of escape.

I mean, does the pig that gets brutally killed get a 'fair fight' when you buy its loins at your supermarket? I'm all for minimizing the suffering of animals but let's not become hypocrites.
